2006-03-18 Thread Georg Birkner

dear fluxlisters

together with NY curator and artist lillian fellmann and israeli
artist efrat shalem we are in the planning of an art project that
would take place at the same time in our micro showcase gallery in
zurich, switzerland (www.mehrzweck-halle.ch) and a similar place in
San Francisco. sad enough, the SF window gallery got broken these
days. We now are looking for a new place to host the project.

any ideas?

thank you so much!

How To Waste Your Money, 30 April 2005

Author: TheatreX from Louisville, KY

I'm not sure why I thought I might like this but whatever reason I had
for picking this up eluded me when I watched it. This is about an
eccentric artist, mostly back in the 50's when he did artsy things, and
a few clips here and there of what I guess is called performance art.
Like tearing a mound of paper into pieces and throwing it up in the
air, and pushing a blackboard on wheels (with noting written or drawn
on it) in circles for what seemed like an awful long time. Whee. Oh,
and this guy was an enigma too, nobody knew very much about him
because he didn't let them, and his death in 1995 was a mystery.
Interviews with various artsy-fartsy types did little for me. The guy
did have some interesting ideas, I guess, and OK, perhaps he was way
ahead of his time, but this DVD is more for folks that are really into
art than an interesting biopic and it was frankly pretty dull to me.

2005-05-26 Thread Georg Birkner
sorry - but i'm not going to translate this. in short: performance by
yoko ono in zurich on june 2. on june 3, 6pm: Opening YOKO ONO -
Horizontal Memories (exhibition at the migros museum in zurich)

georg
--

Ono. Mehr Informationen unter: www.migrosmuseum.ch

FLUXLIST: Re: bukoff, andersen and real fluxus

2005-01-09 Thread Georg Birkner
i was strongly opposing the idea of kicking off death couple from the
list back then. but i have to admit that the content of the list is AT
LEAST 2'715 times as interesting and productive as it used to be after
they were kicked off. i do not really see many a reason to re-invite
them.

i still remember that many fluxlisters were rather shocked when eric
was kicked off together with these freaks and it seems to me that the
actual list of names that were removed was pretty much put togehter by
allen one day. but i doubt that eric desperately wants to come back and
i also doubt that many of us really miss his rather unkind if not to
say terribly destructive way of writing, even if he was the only
remaining original flux person ever to write on this list (except for
ken friedman, way back some 100 years ago or something).

about allens letter (allen, are you still on the list or not?):
it is indeed a bit strange that allen be so angry about not being
recognized as a member of fluxus by the old guard. hey - there's a
strong dada movement in zurich at the moment (http://www.kroesus.org/).
for those who are not into art history - dada was invited here in
zurich some 80 years ago. none of the original artists are alive, no
art historian would ever mention these neo dada people together with
tristan tsara and the likes. but they just call themselves dada. not
neo dada or dudu or anything, because dada is what they do. it's just a
label. like hip hop or punk. no band would ever say, i want
grandmaster flash to officially declare that i am doing hip hop. they
are just doing hip hop and will make their way into hip hop history if
they are good enough.

to stick with the hip hop analogy: we are fluxus atitsts. some other
people have been doing this before. what they have been doing is called
old school fluxus today and deserves maximum respect. yo!

that is that.

as i really like the card i did for that project and am not really into
sound files i would appreciate it a lot if i could send my scanned
image of the card i did back then and still make it a part of some game
of some sort (if i got the concept right this might qualify as a 0 sec.
sound file).

i think the card i did is called Queen of Diamonds in English. But
i'm not sure. actually i'm not even sure how you call it in proper
German. In Swiss German it's called egge dame.

that sounds good! let's suppose the french adapt fluxball, dribbling the
ball into their own goal, say, five times when they play switzerland, while
our team plays normal football for once. then england and croatia might
decide to play nillball, where 22 people cick the ball out of the field for
90 (ok 94 ;-) ) minutes avoiding to score any goals at all. then england AND
switzerland would qualify! we're absolutely on track! everything is fine!

Re: FLUXLIST: fluxus mystery

2003-12-04 Thread Georg Birkner
Dear allans

This can only be the beginning. I guess it has something to do with the
illuminates! as everyone knows they are encoding their messages by using
symbolic numbers. Allan bowman has already proven that 3 (triangle), 4
(polygon), 5 (pentagram) etc. are the numbers we have to take a closer look
at. I suggest we also have to take 1 into consideration (one book). I have
analyzed the phone number of this Kevin J. Maciunas person:

61-8-8303-5845
6+1+8+8+3+0+3+5+8+4+5=51
5+1=6=2x3!!

But also

6+1=7, 8=8, 8+3+0+3=14, 5+8+4+5=22

7° 8' longitude and 14° 22' latitude = Dan Ja Amoute in Zaire!

D=4, A=1, N=14 etc.

D a n J a A m o u t e
4+1+14+10+1+1+13+15+21+20+5=105

And now the incredible clue:

1+0+5=6=2x3

I suggest allan Bowman go to Dan Ja Amoute immediately to do further
investigation and (maybe) help saving this planet from illuminate
dictatorship (sorry, allan, but you are living closer to Zaire than any
other fluxlister)...

Best regards

georg

 Very interesting!

 I also noted that:

If you join the locations of Allen Bukoff's house, the point in the road
where the book was found and the Creanbrook Art Museum you get a triangle.

If you join the locations of Kid Rock's new mansion, Cranbrook Art museum
and the point in the road where the book was found, you get a triangle.

If you join the locations of Allen Bukoff's house, the point in the road
where the book was found and Kid Rock's new mansion, you get a triangle.

Has anyone checked the Lost and Found ads in the Bermuda area?

However, if you join the locations of Allen Bukoff's house, the point in the
road where the book was found, the Creanbrook Art Museum and Kid Rock's new
mansion you get a 4 sided polygon*

 * http://www.ies.co.jp/math/java/geo/logo/logo.html

Maciunas sometimes used polygons, examples of which are on the cover of the
book! I would hazard a guess, given the evidence so far that the book, if
examined closely would prove to be rectangular in shape. A rectangle, being
an quadrilateral polygon, may be bisected by a straight line between to
diagonally opposite corners** to produce two triangles.

Philip Corner** is an artist, musician, composer with Fluxs ties. (i)
Philip Corner lives in Reggio Emilia in Italy. (ii)
I live in Mestre in Italy. (iii)
Philip Corner and I had dinner in a restaurant in Genova (also in Italy) in
which the owner had a collection of ties made by Fluxus artists. Genova is
the birthplace of Christopher Columbus (Cristoforo Colombo) (iv)
If you joined the location of Philip's house, my house and that restaurant,
 you'd get a triangle.
If you joined the location of Philip's house, my house, that restaurant and
Allen Bukoff's house, youd get a 4 sided polygon.
However if you joined the locations of Philip's house, my house, that
restaurant, Allen Bukoff's house and the point in the road where Allen found
the book, you'd get a 5 sided polygon or pentagon, and here we're getting
into much more troubling territory ( http://www.thelemicgoldendawn.org/acf/
 , http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/pentagon/ )

If you type Maciunas into the search field on Google and click search, the
fifth entry is the homepage of Kevin J. Maciunas (it was today anyway).
 http://www.cs.adelaide.edu.au/~kevin/
Kevin is a lecturer in the dept of Computer Science, The University of
Adelaide, Australia. His telephone number is +61-8-8303-5845. Perhaps if
someone gave him a ring he might be able to shed some light on the matter
(computers - learning machines - hmmm)

Elementary my Dear Bukoff (By the you got that book off the street didn't
 you - destiny Allen, destiny!)

 Yours

These are truly rock-bottom deals on some great books and chapbooks from
Factory School, Meow Press, and PaperBrain Press. Many titles are now
(or soon will be) rare collector’s items. The entire list represents
over a decade of publishing activity from these three presses. In many
cases, only a few copies remain, so take advantage! You won’t be
 disappointed.

Hm, ok, the bad thing about the digest fluxlist is that, sometimes, one is
asking questions that are being answered just a couple of lines further
down...

 Carol:

I sent out a free contributor copy to everyone on the CD itself in
addition sent 50 to Crispin to include in the boxes. Also if you
backchannel me the radio station's mailing address contact person
I'll be happy to send them a CD. Copies are also for sale for $7.
They would make great christmas presents for people with musical
horizons that need exposure to do-it-yourself audio art.

 2) I am currently seeking participants in an art/mail project in which I
would like to invite you to participate. The guidelines are simple: Get a
book. Make inclusion. Send it to the next person on a list (to be provided)
after 30 days. The books will continue working through the group until each
original makes its way home. I've attached the original invitation to this
message. I welcome any comments and your participation!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Ann

Actually, i have my office on X-Ray Street. My flat is around corner on
Quellenstrasse. That would be the Source Street. Which is also ok. We have
also Motorenstrasse, Gasometerstrasse and so on...

That's one of the nice things if you live in an ex-working class, ex
socialist area (not switzerland, just this particular part of zurich).
