I'd go with Author-it. Contains both the CMS and editing environment, allows
publication to multiple formats incl FrameMaker, and will scale easily to the
numbers you need. You can host the database either on your own systems, or use
a cloud-based version.
Note: the company I work for is
I agree with this approach. When I am in typesetting mode, I keep both the
paragraph and character catalogs open and maximized to the right of my working
space.

Hi, guys...I'm doing some reformat-intensive work and I find myself
pressing F9 over and over to display and apply paragraph formats. When I
select the format, the list goes away.
Is there a way of detaching the list and have it stay open?
Thanks

John,The same menu options will open the Paragraph Catalog all the way back to

The catalog will remain open until you manually close it or Frame.Dave

If you're using FrameMaker 12, then add the paragraph catalog to the pod. Click
Format Paragraphs Catalog. It will be automatically added to the pod.
Thereafter, if you want the catalog list to always stay open, right click the
pod and deselect Auto-Collapse Iconic Pods. When you are done,
I keep mine turned on by having the Paragraph Formatting toolbar turned on.

All that does is display a button that when pressed, drops down the list.
F9 does the same thing. I want the para list permanently displayed and
expanded.

Sorry, I don't know any method of keeping the list expanded. I tend to either
use the same para tag repeatedly by doing ESC j j or by right-clicking and
picking the tag off the list.
