Okay, I have finally made the problem reproducible. (Sorry for innundating the list with these emails, but I'm pretty panicky right now because I've based an entire library of books and documents to rely on using the Section number in a specific type of cross-reference that I've defined.)

Hi Carol Have you checked the numbering settings in the books themselves? Ie, by right-clicking on files in the book and choosing numbering. I'm wondering if this might be what got changed/corrupted, rather than the files. If the book settings are different from the file settings, Frame uses
