If you have a U3D file, no need to have the CAD program that created it.

Is it possible that the U3D file you are trying to insert in Acrobat is
empty or invalid? Try opening the U3D file in other applications, e.g. if
your CAD application supports U3D import, or in other applications (such as
Deep Exploration). I don't know of free U3D viewers other than the sample
U3D player available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/u3d .

Searching for paragraph tags

2007-09-23 Thread Steve Rickaby
I am working with a document design that uses lead-in (non-indented) and run-on
(indented) paragraph types. The design calls for lead-in paragraphs after
figures, tables and so on: run-one paragraphs should only occur after a lead-in
or another run-on paragraph. The documents are not structured.

Because a figure or table can float away from its anchor during pagination,
this can result in invalid sequences of paragraph tags, such as two consecutive
lead-in paragraphs.

Obviously FrameMaker allows you to search by paragraph tag... but is there any
way to search for a sequence of the same two consecutive paragraph tags?

Many iof us simply avoid using the Float option for reasons like

Re: Adobe Acrobat 8

Yes. I find that I need to regularly (every few days) delete
c:\WINDOWS\system32\FNTCACHE.DAT and restart to avoid FrameMaker crashes
and text drop-outs when generating PDF. (Windows XP, FM7.2 and 8,
Acrobat 8 and Acrobat 3D).

Is 3D Distiller required to process U3D files in FM 8 ?

Art,

* Distiller 7 and later versions support embedding of U3D files in PDFs.
The authoring application does not matter for this process, as long as the
3D data is defined properly in the PS file being distilled. I'm not aware
of any differences between the Distiller application included with Acrobat
Professional and Acrobat 3D (or even Acrobat Standard).

* Make sure that in File > Preferences, the "Don't embed 3D model file in
PDF" preference is turned off.

* Are you using "Save as PDF"? Support for the embedding of U3D files in
PDFs in FrameMaker 8.0 only works when using "Save as PDF" (when printing
to a PS file and distilling, an inactive bitmap of the 3D model is displayed).

* Are there any 3D-related messages in the console?
