$60 for just o-n-e utility...? $60 is the price of many complete

I've used Rick's Table Cleaner and it's worth much more than $60. With a few

I was importing 100+ long Word files into Frame for a conversion project for

To fix them manually (at that time in that version of Frame) involved

If you are selling your utilities for less, perhaps they are not as powerful
or as immediately timesaving. Or perhaps you could charge more and didn't
think of it. But Table Cleaner is worth every cent.

Having had to do this task and stare at a screen for hours, I found the price
to be totally fair. Basically if it saves me even an
hour a month then that's 12 per year. So, for $5/hour I get a tool that does it
all in seconds. Plus I own the tool. So the next
year it's free. Or I may decide that I only paid $2.50/hour. Regardless, I'd
like to think my time is worth more than $5/hour.

Factor in sanity saved and you come out way ahead. Yup, I pay $60 for o-n-e

it back by using the saved time to either do billable work, other work, or to
just enjoy sitting in my backyard for an extra hour.

RE: Imported Word docs - table heading row of long tables is not repeated for further pages of the table

2010-07-02 Thread Combs, Richard
I second -- third? -- what Sharon and Bernard said. In well under an hour,
Table Cleaner lets you do what would take all day to do manually. How much is
an hour of your time worth?

Values are subjective. If you never import from Word and never need to make
global changes to a bunch of tables (including native FM tables), $60 is too
much. But if you do those things, even just from time to time, Table Cleaner is
a bargain because it saves you so many hours of tedious work.

I'll just add one more kick to this very dead horse, from
the perspective of a toolmaker. Frame plugins like Rick
makes are not trivial. They require a very experienced
C/C++ programmer who knows *all* the nasty little bits of
the FDK that are undocumented, as well as the massive part
that is documented. Development time for this is not short.
And market size is around 1% of that for a Word plugin.

OTOH, a VBA Word macro can be written by script kiddies
in a few minutes.

A price of $60 for a Frame plugin is very, very low.

A price of $20 for a Word macro, euphemistically called
a program, sounds kinda high. ;-) Most are free.

I understand that MS offers a free XP emulator that you can download and
install. This helps to run "older" apps on Win7 64-bit.

Thought I would sleep on this before responding... well here goes...

$60 for just o-n-e utility...? $60 is the price of many complete
applications -- ok not an MS app or an Adobe app, but an app. I have written
a number of complete Word VBA programs and until now it never occured to me
to ask more than about $20. Oh well ... Supply & Demand... if it sells... it
sells...

Imported Word docs - table heading row of long tables is not repeated for further pages of the table

An excellent tool, as many have said.

You need more sleep. ;-)

A price of $20 for a Word macro, euphemistically called
a "program", sounds kinda high. ;-) Most are free.

Windows 7 and Frame 7.1

Frame 7 installs fine in Windows 7 but I have limited experience with using it.
