Converting Excel Tables to Structured FM Tables

2010-11-30 Thread Fei Min Lorente
I'm using structured FrameMaker 7.2 on Windows XP SP3.

I have about 30 small tables, each in separate files (okay, they're
actually OLEs in a Word document) to convert to structured FrameMaker
(using a custom DTD) today, and I was wondering what you would recommend
as the most efficient method using only the tools that I have at hand.
I also have FrameScript (but haven't written any scripts) and FrameSLT
Lite Version 2.0 beta. So far I have tried:

* Creating a blank table in FrameMaker and copying and pasting
one cell at a time.

* Copying the whole table into FrameMaker as a tab-delimited
block of text, then converting text to table. However, I don't get my
table elements and have to change all of them.

I'm thinking of copying all the tables into an unstructured FrameMaker
file and running a conversion table on all of them to turn them into
proper structured tables. Any other ideas?

I NEED YOUR HELP!

I'm having issues when trying to print to pdf from Framemaker (V8.0p277
with FrameMaker 8.0 XP SP3 Fix. When printing from Framemaker, I have my
printer set to Adobe PDF. The following is a diary of what was happening
and what I did to rectify the problem. I know this is lengthy, but after
all is said and done, I can produce a pdf from FrameMaker, but it is
missing lines and/or paragraphs of information (I have tried printing to
pdf, Save As PDF, and also print to file - all with the same results).

My System

*
Dell Precision M4400 Workstation: Intel(r) Core(tm) 2 Duo P8700
(2.53GHz, 3M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
*
Professional to XP Professional SP3
*
Memory: 4.0GB, DDR2-800 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
*
NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB
*
Hard Drive 250GB

HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING

Getting fatal errors in FrameMaker while printing to pdf.

I did the following to try to correct the issue:

* Removed Acrobat 8 Professional (Version 8.25) and FrameMaker
from system
* Installed Acrobat 8 Professional and FrameMaker from the
original CDs
* Installed FrameMaker update patches (p266; p273 and p277) and
FrameMaker 8.0 XP SP3 Fix

Rebooted system and everything was working fine for about a week.

Getting fatal errors in FrameMaker while printing to pdf again.

I did the following:

* Removed Acrobat 8 Professional (Version 8.25) and FrameMaker
from system
* Removed and installed printers (local and Adobe PDF)
* Installed Acrobat 8 Professional and FrameMaker from the
original CDs
* Installed FrameMaker update patches (p266; p273 and p277) and
FrameMaker 8.0 XP SP3 Fix

This did not correct the problem.

I then called my company's IT department and they recommended that I
perform a ChkDsk on my hard drive and when that completes, do a Disk
Defrag and call them back if the issue isn't resolved.

When both actions were completed, I rebooted my system and tried
printing a file to pdf, and I got a fatal error again. I did the
following again:

* Removed Acrobat 8 Professional (Version 8.25) and FrameMaker
from system
* Removed and installed printers (local and Adobe PDF)
* Installed Acrobat 8 Professional and FrameMaker from the
original CDs
*   Installed FrameMaker update patches (p266; p273 and p277)

I increased my virtual memory paging file size on D: from nothing to
5356 MB for a total of 10712 MB (minimum allowed on each drive is 2 MB).

This did not correct the problem as I'm still getting fatal errors in
FrameMaker when printing to pdf. So, I did the following (again):

* Removed Acrobat 8 Professional (Version 8.25) and FrameMaker
from system
* Removed and installed printers (local and Adobe PDF)
* Installed Acrobat 8 Professional and FrameMaker from the
original CDs
* Installed FrameMaker update patches (p266; p273 and p277) and
FrameMaker 8.0 XP SP3 Fix

Again, this did not correct the problem. Instead of getting fatal
errors, when printing to pdf, the printer displays an error message
stating the document did not print due to an error.

My company's IT department representative took my system, backed it up,
and then reimaged the entire system. Once I got it back, I reinstalled
the following:

*
Installed Adobe Creative Suite (Design) 3
*
Installed Acrobat 8 Professional and FrameMaker from the
original CDs
*
Installed FrameMaker update patches (p266; p273 and p277) and
FrameMaker 8.0 XP SP3 Fix
*
Removed and installed printers (local and Adobe PDF)
*
Downloaded all Adobe updates

Now I can print to pdf, but as I mentioned above, the pdf is arbitrarily
missing lines of text up to including missing paragraphs.

Transfer a Heading1 titel to the header of a next book file

2010-11-30 Thread Dick Spierings
Hi,
I am looking for a way to transfer the Heading1 title defined in a previous
book file to the next file of the book, to have the Heading1 title of the
previous file reappearing in the header of the next file.
Using the Running H/F 2 gives no result, as the Header1 got defined in a
previous file of the book.

I have seen it working, but can't reproduce... Who helps?

Vriendelijke groet / Kind regards,

Hi Tracy,

First thing I would look for are missing fonts. If the computer was
reimaged did they put the same fonts back. Also you may need to tell
Acrobat where to find the fonts you are using in the preferences.

*   Installed FrameMaker update patches (p266; p273 and p277)

Printing Issues With FrameMaker and PDF

2010-11-30 Thread Tracy, Dick

*

Memory: 4.0GB, DDR2-800 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
*
NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB
*
Hard Drive 250GB

HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING

out of memory error

2010-11-30 Thread Karen Mann
Sorry for the delay getting back to you, got sidelined by a big job.

Just read this again. - Usually one or two books each book having 1 to 40
pages (not big). The graphics vary but all are referenced to an Art drive on
our server. Some are line art and sometimes some are Photoshop, none of which
are heavy duty.
No other software running. New Dell w/Quad processor, 6 g Ram, 500 g drive -
Mem usage 2.26 g  - paged 265, nonpaged 101

I presume you saved your changes before closing? I don't know what you're
referring to regarding "the panel not working."

You should keep this discussion on the list where there are people who use FM 9
on Win 7 (I don't). And providing more information would help them help you --
for starters, how many FM files are open when the problems occur, how big they
are, whether they contain embedded graphics or OLE objects, and from Task
Manager, how much memory FM is using and how much physical memory is available.
