Relative Path for Images Changed to Absolute

2011-03-31 Thread Scott Turner
You can do this in a MIF file, and if you have a text editor that will do a
grep search with patterns, you can replace the absolute link pathname with a
relative link.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

I did the "save as MIF", "find and replace", then saved back to FM and the
problems have cleared up.

I was going to wait for a "fresh morning brain" but after I did a test (on a
copy of the file) and everything went well, I just went ahead and got it over
with.

Table formats - not setting properly

2011-03-31 Thread Theresa de Valence
I'm trying to set a Table format where the first column has no ruling at
all (really, they're just the labels for the other columns), but I don't
seem to be able to make this happen. If I try and create custom ruling,
then it remvoes ruling from all the other column/cells in the table.

Is there something I'm not understanding correctly?

Thanks,

FrameMaker 10

2011-03-31 Thread Anthony Davey
Hi Art,

Unfortunately, perhaps, my Print to File checkbox is, by default, unchecked;
and the default output is still a .prn file.

My other default setting, which is a complete PITA here in England, is that the
default paper size on my Adobe PDF printer is Letter. PLEASE, can anybody tell
me how to set it to A4?

Best regards,
Ant

Anthony,

If you uncheck the Print To File checkbox on the Frame print dialog
box, Distiller automatically distills the PS file for you. Makes it a
one-step process instead of several.

deleting orphaned text frames

2011-03-31 Thread John Sgammato
Thanks everyone for the input.

Everyone offered the same basic solution, which worked fine, but was
time-consuming.

I did learn a timesaving trick: p1 of each chapter was OK, so I could
save a step: Instead of deleting ALL pages, I replaced the entire
chapter content with an x (so p1 was not empty) and saved, thus deleting
everything except p1, and the bad L&R pages with them. Then I selected
my x and pasted the content back over it, which dutifully filled out the
chapter and all was well for that chapter.

Then, rather than repeat the process for 27 chapters, I had another
idea. I noticed that the text flow behaved itself as long as it existed
on the master page, but deleting it from the master page left it on the
body page, and it was now isolated and unable to respond to master page
tricks. The answer seemed to point to adjustment within the master
page, but not deleting it, because master page deletion left body page
orphans.

So instead I worked with the master pages in one file: I shrank the two
text frames in that flow (one on the L master page and one on the R) to
0.2 x 0.2 inches and slid it safely into the margin. Then I updated
master pages on all the chapters and it worked - they still have that
text flow, but it is invisible and harmless. Some day when Adobe comes
up with a better solution I will deal with it, but for now it doesn't
seem to be hurting anything.

If all the text you want is in one flow, the solution is pretty easy.
Just make a clean template file, then import the flow --
File>Import>File (by copying), specifying the flow you want to import --
from each legacy chapter file into a copy of the clean template.
Everything that is not part of the imported flow will be left behind.

I have a book (inherited from an outside source) with hundreds of pages
of orphaned text frames, some alongside good text, some simply
preventing a blank page from being deleted. I can delete them
individually, but this will take ages. I want to delete all of them in
one swell foop, if I can.

The orphans are all in an isolated, empty text flow called Notes.

They are found in 27 chapters.

They do not appear on the chapter Master pages, so I can't simply delete
them from one chapter's master pages and then import the page formats to
the other chapters.

Re-applying clean master pages does not exorcise these ghosts.

Has anyone seen such behavior? Any suggestions for getting rid of these
frames, or the whole Notes text flow?

FrameMaker 10

2011-03-31 Thread Anne Duffield
Sue,

I have found:

1. When adding tab stops in the paragraph designer the Auto-Show must be
selected. If Auto-Collapse is selected the tab stops won?t save.

2. When compiling the TOC the heading 3 is missing a closing angle
bracket after <$paratext [Tab]<$pagenum> should be <$paratext>
[Tab]<$pagenum>. Without the bracket, the code appears in the TOC rather than
the heading 3?s.

RE: deleting orphaned text frames

From: jsgamm...@imprivata.com
To: framers@lists.frameusers.com

Any suggestions for getting rid of these
frames, or the whole Notes text flow?

john

Ant,

The unchecked setting on the Print dialog box > Print To File is
unusual ... but what it is is what it is.

Actually, no matter which, it sounds as if something in your install
is whacked... by default, if you use File > Print and specify the
Acrobat printer, Distiller should produce the PDF directly, without
user intervention. I'd hesitate to recommend uninstalling and
reinstalling though, because it IS working

As for the default paper setting, if you have Acrobat, you can open
Distiller and modify the job options. And you should also be able to
go in through the Printer Control Panel and select the printer and
then Properties to twiddle things, including the default paper size.

Cheers,
Art

If installed correctly, you should see an SDL menu item appear on your top line
menus (File, Special, etc.). See the demo of it working with FM in RJ Jacquez's
Adobe blog from last year or the year before (I forget when it happened)
