Correction to: Problems with searching for characters with wildcards
Hello Friends, = corrected version of mail (notes 1 and 2) Trying to automate the generation of formatted citations with EndNote, I come across a real obstacle in FrameMaker: FrameMaker does not recognise the following glyphs as characters in Find with Wildcard ? or * : ð Latin Small Letter Eth Latin Capital Letter S With Caron Ð Latin Capitl Letter Eth Ý Latin CapitalLetter Y With Acute ý Latin Small Letter Y With Acute þ Latin Small Letter thorn Þ Latin Capital Letter thorn Latin Small Letter S With Caron In contrast, these glyphs are recognised as punctuation with the wild card character | With the WildCard sequence \[\[*|*|*\]\] i can find the following temporary references (created by EndNote. The names are mostly artificial): [[LaBonté, 1989 #11]] [[Müller, 1925 #13]] [[èlíü, #26]] Note 1 [[DuçanÌsídõrâ, #24]] [[Preußler 1993, #27]] but not these: [[Ðanderðore 1990, #27]] [[Wýtek 1921, #27]] [[Þorsteþab 1993, #27]] [[Ýleegi 1993, #27]] [[èíüf, #26]] Note 2 Note 1: Found, if the S and/or s caron are at the begin and end only, since regognised as punctuation. Note 2: Not found, since there is an s carin somewhere in the word. Since I don't know on which position in the string these characters my occur i see no chance to set up a find pattern. Kerning of space in FrameMaker
Dear Framers, I have found (I believe it is) a bug) in FrameMaker in regards to kerning pairs. I have FontLab and I, for example, kerned two characters which are the f and the space. I did that because the f was leaning over to the right and was touching the first letter of the word. For example: of How where f touched the H even though there was space entered in between. So I opened the font and fixed the kerning pair of the f and the space. It looked great. I install the font and the characters are still crashing. Of course the Pair Kern was turned ON. Then I checked the same thing in MS Word and InDesign and when the kerning was turned on, the kerning pair I did inside the font was applied and showed up. But not in FrameMaker. Does anyone know about this and know how to handle it? Any plug-ins or FrameScript for this? Any data would be greatly appreciated. Best, Greg --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Kerning of space in FrameMaker
Assuming you're using FrameMaker on Windows: Open maker.ini in Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker Search for the parameter DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics Set the value for this parameter to On You should now see the changes you made to the font metrics which incidentally should have appeared correctly in printed output even if the font did not appear as you expected on screen.
