Is there a FrameMaker utility to Save As books from FM 8 to FM 7?

2009-02-17 Thread Avraham Makeler
Hi all,
I have a client that uses FM7, but when I work at home, I use FM8. So when
every now and again I update their document source archives I have to
convert all the files from FM7 to FM8. Not so bad, however there are a lot
of books, and ...

within each book, it seems I have to do 'Save As' for each
document separately. Is there any way of doing a single 'Save As' that will
actually convert a whole book at once?

Does anybody have a utility that will do this?

If I knew FrameScript/FrameSDK like I know VBA, I could easily write a
program to do it.

But I don't - yet.

TIA

system variable in Portuguese

I think the strings in variables are always literal and not dynamic,
unless they pick up some data from the operating system.

Is your operating system is set to use the Portuguese language pack?

If it is, or it has no affect, the easiest way to juggle them may be
to create a template file for each target language, then import them
into the working files as needed.

Open the book file then hold down the shift key and the File

equivalent.

Ok, I tried that.Does not seem to exist.
I.e., when I hold down the Shift key, there does not appear in the File
menu, an 'All' version of the Save As command allowing me to save all the
chapters at once as an earlier version.

So, so far it seems that programing is the only way to go for a professional
solution.

Meantime, I recorded a Windows macro using the QM QuickMacros app, which
allows me to select a document in the book and then do all the ops
automatically to save the chapter as the earlier version. So that helps a
lot.

However, every now and again FM displays a message asking me what to do
about bad cross-references, thus the other question I posted today
about suppressing them book wide.

Thanks,

Have you saved the book as MIF, then re-opened in FM7

Is there a FrameMaker utility to "Save As" books from FM 8 to FM 7?

2009-02-17 Thread Matt Sullivan
Sorry...I read too quickly. The Shift command changes the "Open" to "Open
All", "Save" to "Save All" or "Save All in Book" and "Close" to "Close All"
or "Close All in Book".

Have you saved the book as MIF, then re-opened in FM7

So that helps a
lot.

However, every now and again FM displays a message asking me what to do
about bad cross-references, thus the other question I posted today about
suppressing them book wide.

Thanks,

 avi

"Display heading text" in book file

2009-02-17 Thread Susan Curtzwiler
Hi All,

FM 7.0 for Window's Vista Enterprise.

I'd like to piggy-back on Jon's post. In addition to seeing the same issues,
the name of the book file seems to always display the full path. My manager
has asked that I clean up that file name and show something simple like the
name of the book. Is there a way to not show the full path?

Thanks,
Sue Curtzwiler

Hi Everyone,

FM 7.2 for Window.

As you know, in the book file, you can toggle between the files' file
names and their heading text. My question is, what determines the
heading text that is displayed? I have examined my files and notice that
the heading text that is displayed is typically the first major heading
(such as Heading1) that FM encounters in the file but not always. I've
also noticed that for some files (but not all) in the book, FM will
always show the file name even when toggling back and forth.
