resolved it by applying the (then) latest patch.

According to your post, you are all patched up. Maybe it's worth checking to
see if all of your patches were properly applied? *shrug*

Windows 7 (also seen in XP SP3)
.png images created from CorelDraw X5 (also seen in screen captures done with

Images imported by reference to graphics frames anchored to a Body paragraph
Image resolution typically 300 dpi (screen captures at 150 dpi)

Problem: A tin black or grey line appears along the right edge of some?not

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Vertical line at right edge of graphics frame

2011-09-09 Thread Lise Bible
I'm on Frame 8.0p277, and I occasionally get that. I select the anchored
frame, set the pen to "none" (even though, yes, it's already set to "none"),
save, and re-save the book as pdf, and that usually resolves it.

Not that helpful, maybe, but that's my workaround. It only happens
occasionally to me...I just figured it was a pdf hiccup--guessed it might
have something to do with memory--seems to happen more when I have a lot of
other stuff open.

Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7?

2011-09-09 Thread st...@siliconprairiesoftware.com
You might want to try the compatibility patch I made for Frame 7.x so that
it works better with Windows 7. You can find it here at the end of the
Downloads page:

http://www.siliconprairiesoftware.com/Downloads.html

This application uses a compatibility shim to control settings for the
FrameMaker 7.x executable file. A compatibility shim provides more control
over settings that allow the older version of Frame to work with Windows
7. I've used it for a few years, going back to the Windows Vista days. It
fixes the incompatibilities with the built-in compatibility modes, such as
the slowdown you experienced with the XP compatibility mode. (I had found
exactly the same behavior.)

Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7?

No sorry, I haven't tried it. I've just seen it recommended on the Adobe forums

No, I haven't installed Virtual PC. Maybe I'll try that at some point. Have you
used it? If so, how does the performance hit compare to that from compatibility
mode? It seems to me it would be greater, even with hardware assist. But maybe
that's not a valid assumption.

Vertical line at right edge of graphics frame

2011-09-09 Thread Beverly Robinson
Environment:
  TCS 2 (FrameMaker 9p255)
Windows 7 (also seen in XP SP3)
.png images created from CorelDraw X5 (also seen in screen captures done with
Snagit 7-I know, it's old)
Images imported by reference to graphics frames anchored to a Body paragraph
Image resolution typically 300 dpi (screen captures at 150 dpi)
Image size varies, never larger than half a page

Problem: A tin black or grey line appears along the right edge of some-not
all-anchored frames. The line is not visible in FrameMaker, only when printed
or saved as PDF using Adobe PDF printer.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks for your help,

Unresolved cross-reference weirdness

2011-09-09 Thread Joy Kocar
When I update a book, I receive 2 unresolved cross-reference errors. This
file contains 3 insets. I search for unresolved cross-references in the main
file and in the insets, FM finds none.

In the main file I use Edit > Update References, update the book and I can
still get the errors.

I have tried Special > List of > References, including External Cross-Refs,
Unresolved Cross-Refs, Unresolved Text Insets and the resulting file is
empty.

I have checked that the cross-reference formats in the main file and the
insets are the same.

One strange thing I've noticed is that I tried showing all conditions and
did a search for unresolved cross-references, FM found none. I revert to my
set conditions. When I then update the book, no errors??

I'm confused. How would toggling conditions affect this?

Another strange thing is when I view the main file, sometimes 2
cross-references within an inset just disappear. The cross-references show
up in the inset (point to figures in the same inset). In the main file, if I
use Edit > Update References, they reappear. I think these may be my
problematic references but I don't know how to fix them. I've tried redoing
the cross-references, no change in behavior.

Toggling the conditions has worked at least this time, but I'd like to
understand what is going on. I tried searching but could not find a
solution. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7?

2011-09-09 Thread steve

Adding a PDF form to a FrameMaker manual

2011-09-09 Thread Michael Norton
I'm trying to add a Feedback form to our FrameMaker manuals. These manuals are
published as PDF files. We are using FrameMaker 7.2 and Acrobat 8.0.

I have a PDF form designed and can attach it to a PDF manual. I can also set up
a bookmark which will display the form as an attachment, but I would prefer to
pull it into the FrameMaker book and have it built in every time I print the
book. I've tried inserting the PDF form into the book file several ways, such
as an inset in an FM file or on a master page, but nothing seems to give me a
form with working fields in the resulting PDF.

Preferably, I would like to end up with a PDF manual that has a bookmark named
"Send us your comments". If you click on that bookmark, you go directly to the
PDF form which you can then fill in and email to a pre-selected email address.
Since the content of the form itself will not change and since we have a large
number of manuals, I would like to make this as automatic as possible.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks for any ideas.

After I was forced to move to Win 7, FM 7.2 crashed every time I drag-selected

No, I haven't installed Virtual PC. Maybe I'll try that at some point. Have you
used it? If so, how does the performance hit compare to that from compatibility
mode? It seems to me it would be greater, even with hardware assist. But maybe

Framemaker 10 page down bug

2011-09-09 Thread keith.sol...@tmx.com
I'll have to take a closer look at my files. I have only one set of
manuals that use graphics extensively, and they're all screen shoots. When
I need to do captions, I embed the captions in a tool like SnagIt or
Visio. I rarely use Frame's graphic tools - about the only use I make of
them is to add a border around the anchored frame that enclosed a graphic.
