Hi Dan,

Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

We have been able to reproduce this at out end and a bug has been logged
for the same.

We will be fixing this issue in an update patch.

Thanks,

 Subject: Reproducible FM12 file corruption?

I've been seeing occasional wonkiness (yes, I know... it's a technical
term) since upgrading from FM10 to TCS5 (FM12), but I think I have narrowed
at least one of them down to the point where the behavior is reproducible
on demand, but I'll be darned if I know what is triggering it.

Let's find out if it's just my installation/environment or if it affects
 others.

 I'm running TCS5 under Windows 7, 64-bit Enterprise.

To try to eliminate character paragraph format catalog issues and
template anomalies, once I was able to reproduce the behavior, I tried
doing the same in a generic FM file, and am also seeing the behavior there,
so that's what I'm going to walk through. I've included screenshots of what
 I see along the way.

 1. Create a new file using the default Portrait blank paper.

 http://www.taxschool.illinois.edu/images/fm/fm12-1.png

 2. Copy in a few paragraphs of generic text (I use www.lipsum.com).

 http://www.taxschool.illinois.edu/images/fm/fm12-2.png

 3. Save the file.

 4. Place your cursor in one of the paragraphs.

 5. In the Paragraph Designer, change the Spread to 1% and hit Enter to
 Apply.

 http://www.taxschool.illinois.edu/images/fm/fm12-3.png

 6. Save the file.

 7. Press Ctrl+z to undo.

 8. WHAMMO!

 http://www.taxschool.illinois.edu/images/fm/fm12-4.png

On my system, the margins change completely, as if room for side heads was
added. In my main working file it also put footnotes in the middle of pages.

Also, it's not just any kind of change prior to a save and then undo that
triggers the corruption. Simple text edits do not trigger it, however
changes in the paragraph and character designers do. It's not just font
attributes, but changing paragraph attributes and applying them, followed
by a save and undo will also trigger the corruption. Changing the color of
selected text via the tool palette, save, undo, will also trigger it.

It appears to be the sequence of (1) anything involving changing
*ATTRIBUTES* of text, (2) a save, and (3) an immediate undo, that triggers
it. If I do the above steps without a save, the undo does not cause the
corruption. It's as if reverting to a pre-save state makes FM go haywire.

Now that I know what triggers the page going nuts, I now know what to
avoid doing. I would experience this periodically since I'm a save-monkey,
and wouldn't know what the heck was going on.

 Bizarre.

Change workflow to use FM and RH together?

2013-08-09 Thread Anjaneai S
Hi Terri,

Here is an idea/steps how you can achieve this--

Firstly, if there is a scope for content within Framemaker to be updated at
various stages, go for Link option for bringing in book/documents from
Framemaker (for Both UK & US English) to RoboHelp. *(File-- Link--
Framemaker documents)*

*1#* One way is after linking your documents and converting all your
FrameMaker documents into topics within Robohelp. Create 2 Conditional
Built tag an apply them on US and UK English separately from Project
manager and while generating your output, Select the CBT for which you want
to generate the help.
Alternately, you can apply Conditional Text to your English US/UK Content
within Framemaker and directly publish it from there (File -- Publish). You
might require to create two different TOC for English US/UK content

*2# *Yes, you can create Help using FM Files, that is a standard workflow.
But the opposite is not a feasible solution.

I did not understand when you say -- " One issue that is *always* raised is
that the docs have pictures/screenshots/images and the help doesn't." The
Help file can also have graphics.

As you have been working on Fm for quite some time, I'll share some steps
to implement this from Rh End:--

1) Create (or Open Existing) Robohelp project
2) Go to File-- Link--FrameMaker document and browse- your FM (US) Book and
select open. (Repeat the same for English UK book)
3) This would Link your Book under Project Manager
4) Make a right click to Book and Select Generate (You should repeat this
step whenever there is any modification at Framemaker's end
5) Now create and apply the CBT (UK and US) to your Topics within Project
Manager (Drag and Drop them over any topic to apply it)
6) Generate your Help, say Webhelp, under Webhelp properties, Exclude the
UK CBT from output.

I hope I have not confused you further. :)

Thanks,
Anjaneai

Hi Alastair,

Please try the following steps:

* Deselect Remember Missing Font Names.*

1. Close the document.

2. Choose File Preferences. (For FM 11-- Edit-- Preferences)

3. Deselect Remember Missing Font Names and click Set.

4. Restart FrameMaker.

5. Open and resave the file.

*Note:* After you make this change, the fonts on any file you open will be
permanently mapped to available fonts when you save that file

Hi Dave,

Can you please drop an email to tcs...@adobe.com requesting the installer.

Adobe FrameMaker team would provide you a Download for FrameMaker 10
installer, it would be 2 files one with .7z extension and another .exe use
the Executable file to initialize the installer..

Thanks,

A strange 'debug' message, while using FrameMaker 10

2013-05-15 Thread Anjaneai S
Hi Simon,

Are you ware about any plug in being used in your FrameMaker or deployed by
someone else?

Does any file or this location exists on your disk?

Would it reproduce if you try the same steps again, considering both cases,
if you import it to same structured document or a new one?

Answers to these may lead to some more question :-)

Thanks,
Anjaneai

 of support isn't an issue.

 Hi, Robert.

I already have FrameMaker version 11. Actually, I was not looking for
support per se ... I was just anticipating being ready with the Update Plan
(at a lower cost than a single version update) in place to get version 12
 when it comes out.

TCS is gross overkill for what I use FrameMaker for, so not likely to get
approval for it - and I am not about to pay for that myself!

Anyway, as of yesterday, I am now exploring making all my work be
hyperlinked Wiki documents instead - they are mostly large User Manuals,
API documentation and stuff, so switching away from PDF from FrameMaker
documents to a Wiki may work ... any recommendations along these lines? My
current docs have some graphics, lots of text, with plenty of hyperlinks
(generally internal cross-references). Essentially B/W, with some color use
 in headings, etc.

If I find something workable for creating Wiki versions of my documents
relatively cleanly, and if Adobe cannot get their version upgrade pricing
rational and correct (the cost of upgrading to 9, 10 and 11 was
unacceptably high ... for a point tool), then version 11 is where I will
permanently stop and never upgrade again.

And that will be a too bad moment. Having used FM since version 3 on a
Sun 3/50 ... it may just be time to move on. :(

As they have been upgraded to Fm 11, when you opened them in that release

See if it works!

I am sure that it is everyone who has FM 10, regardless if it is part of a

their network and on this virtual PC FM 10 is installed as a standalone
product. I just logged into the virtual PC and attempted to open FM 10 and
get the same lousy message. Installing FM 11 as a workaround is not an
option as this is not my PC, but my client's. I wouldn't dare install any
other SW w/out their permission first.

deactivate and I AM connected to the internet. I am unable to deactivate
my account at all, so I am unable to attempt Solution #2. Also, I did stop
and then restart the FlexNet Licensing Services and that did not work
either. Like others on this, I am unable to use Framemaker 10.

 Hi Shlomo,

First of all, a very Happy New Year to all dear Framers!

Can you please try the steps suggested here -

 http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-licensing-product-expired-cs4.html

Also, please go to start - run - launch - services.msc and look for
'Flexnet Licensing Service' and restart/start the service.

 Please share me your findings.

 Good luck!

 Thanks,
 Anjaneai

Other FM10 users in different locations encountered a similar problem.

The Adobe chat representative suggested contacting Adobe tech support by
phone, where I (expectedly) got a closed for the holiday message.

FM11, FM9 and FM8 do start as expected.

FrameMaker 10 does not start ("licensing expired")

2013-01-02 Thread Anjaneai S
Hi All,

I feel sorry for the inconvenience to all of you.

I am working to see if I can provide you a solution.
Meanwhile, you all can work by the step two in the article, i.e. to reset
your clock to a previous date of 2012.

I hope to update you all tomorrow.

Thanks,
