Figure number updating
Hi, First of all, I panicked and it transpired that it was only in two (though major) chapters in a five-chapter book, and not all. After I calmed down a bit, I discovered the following: There was a disconnect between my first page, where the first figure appeared and the next page, where the second figure appeared, which is why the second figure thought it was the first one. The question was why: Autoconnect was selected and the tag letter between the frames was consistent. Well, I don't know - the only explanation is that the material was pasted from Word, and there must have been a massive amount of garbage screwing up the document. My solution was to recreate the info on the first page, apply the first page master page, then delete the corrupt first page. So far, holding my breath, but it seems to have worked. Thanks. Hopefully, the problem is due to numbering series. How is the autonumber string defined? What other series are used in the documents? How are the captions created? Unfortunately, I have experienced numbering problems if the caption is a text frame within the anchored frame. If the anchored frames are copied, and not created from scratch, the numbering sequence eventually breaks. But for that to happen in ALL your files seems bizarre. Unless all the files were started from a common copy... Perhaps with more details we can be of more help. Eric L. Color problem
Hello All, I imported the formats from a stable template with several additional color definitions to another file. None of the color definitions appear in the second file and instead, there are a series of RGB + numbers definitions, all black, which refuse to budge when I try to delete them (using the Color Definitions dialog box). Hello All, Thanks to everyone who responded, including those you wrote to me offline. Select all files in the book, then in the Volume field in the Numbering Properties dialog box, type the name of the book. In the master pages of each file in the book, select the Volume Number variable. This is an excellent method for maintaining the correct book title whether the file is referenced or not. In the past, I'd written the book title in the footer manually, which meant that if I imported formats from a different book, the title was overwritten. Hi Art, I just created two mock books with phoney files and then tried your method. This also works beautifully. I originally tried something else that didn't work, but damned if I can remember what. Select Special Variable Create Variable. The name I use is DocTitle, but it doesn't matter; the Definition is the title of the book. Click Add. Then Insert it in the footer. Then use Import Formats Variables to import it into all chapters of your book. Insert it again on your cover/title pages in the regular text flow. Variables
Hi, I tried creating a custom variable and it was because I couldn't get it to work that I wrote to the list in the first place. The $volnum method works beautifully - I can even set different book titles in the footers of files that are in the same book - something I don't believe you can do with a custom variable, unless you create more than one. In that case, it'd be simpler just to type the book title directly into the master pages. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to respond.
