Is it possible to use a PNG with transparency in FM 7.2?
We normally use PNG screen captures in our guides. A few weeks ago, I decided I wanted to place a torn edge stamp on one of the images. I saved it in HyperSnap 6.31 with the stamp color as transparent. All is good. When I imported the file (by reference) into FM 7.2 (unstructured), the transparent color was visible. Is this a FM issue or am I missing something here? I don't want to use GIF images because the resolution is poor. How Do I Create Alphabetical List?
I am working on a reports guide. I will have a TOC, but I also want another generated list of reports by name and page number. Each Heading 2 in the guide is the name of a report. Can I do this without having to insert markers for each Heading 2? Thanks in advance for any ideas. I am using version 7.2. Thanks, Roger Bell Technical Writer 770-246-2300 x1181 VCG, Inc. Outstanding. I used your first workaround and it works like a charm. But you are right that it would be a nice feature request for Adobe to add. Hope some of their folks are on this list and will take note. Thanks so much. You're welcome, Roger. Well, you're next question is a nice feature request. ;-) However, there are two workarounds: Workaround 1 1. In your FM source document, type the letters of the alphabet, each of them in a separate paragraph and give them a dedicated paragraph tag, for example H0. You can make them white or put them in a separate text frame outside the print area (or put a white rectangle on top of them). 2. Generate the alphabetical paragraph list and include H0. H0 will have the paragraph tag H0APL in the alphabetical paragraph list. 3. You can change the reference page, so that the $pagenum is omitted for H0APL. 4. Modify the H0APL paragraph tag, so that they look like Group Titles of an index. Workaround 2: use custom markers and Index Generator (IXGen) 1. Create a custom marker, for example report. 2. Use Index Generator to put report markers on all H2 headings. 3. Generate an index of report markers (IOM). There, you will automatically have Group Titles. I've done this with no less than 21 different types of markers and it worked like a charm. Question about glossary terms
I am creating unstructured guides in FrameMaker 7.2. The guides are primarily for print, but our customers also received PDF copies. There are terms that I need to define, so I have created a glossary. I want to use a visual indicator, so that anyone using either the print or the PDF guide would know that a term is defined in the glossary. So far I have been using a graphic question mark icon that I place directly beside a term. I describe the meaning of the icon in the typographical conventions section of each guide's introduction. Any thoughts on a better way to indicate glossary entries? I am not wanting to use a cross-reference or hyperlink in particular, but I'm willing to consider all suggestions. Help Needed Linking by Reference from SourceSafe
Hello everyone. I seldom post here but read the digests with great interest. So, now I have a question. Is there a way to keep a folder of graphic files in SourceSafe checked in and import them by reference into FrameMaker? Our goal is for all of our writers to share the same graphics files and when one writer had to update the file, it would update for each of us. We are using MS Visual SourceSafe 6.0 and FrameMaker 7.2. We have tried to research this issue on the Internet and found nothing, so I though someone on this group may be doing this now if it is possible at all. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Missing Fonts
Hello, I am new to this list and relatively new to FM and have recently started working for my current employer. They have some old FM documents that originated years ago. When we open some of these older documents, a warning message appears about missing fonts and that FM will substitute fonts. We do not want to purchase the missing fonts. Rather, we want to permanently update our documents to new available fonts. When I try to search and replace a font once the document opens, I receive the message that the font isn't found. I guess because FM has already substituted. Is this a catch-22, or is there a way to fix it short of buying the missing fonts? Thanks Roger ___ You are currently subscribed to Framers as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send list messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com Send administrative questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit http://www.frameusers.com/ for more resources and info.
