ADMIN Announcing Framers on Mailman!

2005-11-21 Thread Lisa Bronson
Hi Hedley,

The archives that will be ready in a week or two are not the Mailman
archives, but a custom solution being put together by one of my
technical people. These archives will be searchable. I will let you
know when they are ready.

Warm regards,
Lisa B.

Yes, folks, the archives are grouped by month. No way to see a continuous
scrolling list of articles by date or thread or subject, ACROSS month
boundaries. No way to search the archives.

Sure hope the frameusers list is going to be a lot more usable than the
example I've given, typical of all the mailman lists I have seen. It
would be fascinating to hear what Jakob Nielsen or Alan Cooper would have
to say about the usability of mailman. Oh well, guess we can all go to
Yahoo! Groups which has had a lot of thought put into its interface.

Hedley

ADMIN Announcing Framers on Mailman!

2005-11-21 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Lisa, I host a Mailman group as well and have had no problems with it.
However, I believe that users require a password in order to adjust their
settings. Since we were rolled over into the Mailman list, do you have any
idea how we will obtain a password?

Hi Carol,

Thanks for writing. Here are some instructions for getting your password.

If you had a password before, it has been changed. You may request it
in two different ways:

* Send an email to framers-request at lists.frameusers.com. Leave the
subject line blank and put password on the first line of the body of
the message.

* Visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/listinfo/framers. Near the
bottom of the page is a field with a Unsubscribe or Edit Options
button. Enter your email address and click the button. On the next
page, click the Email My Password To Me button. Using the password you
receive, log in, and if you wish, change your password to something
you can easily remember.

If you have any other questions or difficulty with these instructions,
please let me know.

Warm regards,

Lisa B.

ADMIN Announcing Framers on Mailman!

2005-11-20 Thread Lisa M. Bronson
I am pleased to announce that the Framers mailing list has been moved
to a new open source list management software called Mailman
(http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/index.html).

How does this affect you? Well, unless you had your subscription set
to nomail, you'll probably never notice a difference in day-to-day
use.

* Your list options were converted to the new system, so you don't
need to do anything.

* You'll still send email messages to the same address (framers at
frameusers.com).

NOTE: If you are a NOMAIL subscriber, your account did not make it
through the conversion process. Please either send an email to
resubscribe (framers-join at lists.frameusers.com--you can leave the
subject and body of the message blank) or let me know so I can
resubscribe you to the list.

A few other improvements are being made at this time, as well.

* Archives from now forward will be available at
http://lists.frameusers.com/pipermail/framers/.

* The old archives are being converted to a new format, and they, plus
all new messages, will have a functional search. That process will be
complete in 1-2 weeks, and I'll pass on additional information at that
time.

* An RSS feed will be available in about a week.

If in the future, you want to change your email address, switch from
regular mail to digest, stop your mail when you go on vacation, or
change any of your other options, you can do so here:
http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/listinfo/framers .

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about the
Mailman system. I'll do my best to answer them as quickly as possible!

Have a great week!
