I seem to recall that an early version of FM9 had the Updates menu item
greyed out unless I first opened a document. If opening a document doesn't
help, try loading another Adobe product, such as Acrobat or Creative Suite,

Any theories why my Updates option is grayed out? Several days ago I

Now that you mention it, I think one of the Adobe's FrameMaker development
team had posted it as a tip a while back. The entry needs to be made
manually the first time. Put it in the [Preferences]

In maker.ini, change "DontShowWelcomeScreen=Off" to "On". I believe you can
either change this in the FrameMaker program directory to affect everyone,
or put it as a line in C:\Documents and Settings\\Application
It's something in the Maker.ini file I think - check the Adobe forums for
splash or welcome screen
