I think they're probably lost, but you could try searching for *.fm* files because some time-saved files have a system-generated suffix. RE: Disk vs memory
Can't you ask your network admin to restore your files. They have to back up the network regularly. If they can't give you the latest, at least they should be able to restore to a recent save. So it won't be a total loss. Good point Clara. But for the update process they copy all dirs and files to a replica server, and then back to the production server when done. They can't find the updated files on the replica. It turns out that our rework should not take more than a half day, so more the nuisance than anything. You might also tell your network guys that REAL sysadmins work under cover of night... When the users are in bed. I like your attitude Art. I've tried that in the past, and also asking for notification before they begin. I may have to go higher. On the other hand, they might reply that REAL tech writers work in a secured source environment, which I will be looking into more aggressively. You've probably lost your files for good. Unless you specifically set up an alternate location for backup files, there isn't an automatic feature to make backups. This is a good time to point out that there are some great utilities out there that help in this regard. I use a free one called Karen's Replicator (http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp) It makes backups from whatever folder structure I want, to whatever folder structure I want, on the schedule I set. All of my work has three copies, one on my machine, one on the file server, and one on a backup server, and all of this happens behind the scenes without any manual intervention by me. Depends how you have things set up. If you have been working from the network, and selected for FrameMaker to create a backup file, I'm afraid the default is to place the backup file in the working directory (right next to each other, it's daft!). I don't think FrameMaker keeps a local cache on the client machine I'm afraid.. Sorry. I hope someone else has a more encouraging answer for you. *heads off to commit changes to SVN!* Gordon -Original Message- From: framers-bounces+gordon.mclean=grahamtechnology.com at lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-bounces+gordon.mclean=grahamtechnology.com at lists.frameusers. com] On Behalf Of Michael.Long at thomson.com Sent: 30 January 2007 15:56 To: framers at lists.frameusers.com Subject: Disk vs memory All, My associate and I have just discovered that all our work in FrameMaker yesterday is likely lost.
