FrameMaker Chautauqua 2006

2006-11-13 Thread Rick Quatro
Hello Framers,

I had the privilege of attending and presenting at the FrameMaker Chautauqua
in Austin, Texas last week. I would like to thank Kay Ethier and Bernard
Aschwanden for the great job they did hosting the conference. The facilities
and food were excellent and there were some very useful presentations. RJ
Jacquez from Adobe was there as a vendor and speaker, and he informally
"announced" that FrameMaker 8 is in development. FrameMaker's Product
Manager, Aseem Dokania, attended the conference as well. High on the list of
new features is Unicode support. RoboHelp 6 is in beta.

DITA and structured FrameMaker were at the forefront, but in talking to
people I found that there are still a lot of unstructured FrameMaker users
out there. Some want to make the switch to structured Frame, but others have
good quality, well-established workflows in unstructured Frame and don't
have plans to switch.

As always, it was good to meet new people, and to finally meet old email
friends in person. And I enjoyed hanging out with some other (unnamed) bald
guys.

ANN: Rick Quatro at FrameMaker Chautauqua

2006-09-21 Thread Rick Quatro
Hello All,

I will be attending and presenting at the FrameMaker Chautauqua in Austin,
Texas, November 8-10, 2006. I will be demonstrating FrameMaker automation
with FrameScript, with an emphasis on structured Frame and XML. FrameScript
can help you with all areas of FrameMaker production, including conversion
to structure, and pre- and post-processing of XML files. Travel plans have
just been finalized so my name is not yet on the Conference schedule, but
will be shortly.

I would like to make a special offer to those of you working with FrameMaker
and XML (including DITA). Please give me details on the special challenges
and problems you may be encountering as you work with structured FrameMaker
and XML. I will pick one of these challenges and use it as a case study
during my presentation. If I select your challenge and feature the
FrameScript solution at the Conference, you will receive the script or
scripts for free.

No challenge is too big or small, and I will also entertain those dealing
with unstructured FrameMaker. Please let me know if you have any questions
or comments. Thank you very much.

I look forward to seeing you at the FrameMaker 2006 Chautauqua!

[ANN] Adobe FrameMaker 2006 Chautauqua Schedule Announced

2006-06-30 Thread Scott Abel
Adobe FrameMaker 2006 Chautauqua
November 8-10, 2006
Austin, Texas USA
http://www.travelthepath.com/conf/chautindex.html

Hello Framers!

I'll be presenting at this event and wanted to invite you to get your
registration in early. Building on the moment from last year's
Chautauqua and the excitement of X-Pubs in London, UK last week (adobe
showed off some really cool stuff!!!), it's clear that this year's
Chautauqua is going to be bigger and better than last year's very
successful event. In fact, both Adobe and Quadralay have claimed top
spots as sponsors and are actively involved as both presenters and
exhibitors. Expect to see some cool and useful new things from both of
these vendors.

Here's the scoop on Adobe FrameMaker 2006 Chautauqua

Co-sponsored by Adobe Systems and Quadralay, and brought to you by
Bright Path Solutions, this three-day global gathering of FrameMaker
users is a must-attend event. Presentations specifically related to
DITA include: Leveraging DITA in a Multilingual Environment, The
impact of Darwin Information Typing Architecture on Technical
Communication, Adobe FrameMaker and DITA, and FrameDITA-lite.
Additional presentations include: Pay No Attention to the (Wo)Man
Behind the Curtain: Moving Your Team Towards Single-Sourcing,
Developing Documentation with Structured FrameMaker and XML on a Small
Budget, and Complexity to Simplicity with Controlled English and
FrameMaker.

A special remote keynote will be delivered by Bob Doyle -- the inventor
of the first handheld video game, the first desktop publishing
application and much more. Additional notable keynotes/presenters
include: Don Day (IBM), Eliot Kimber (Innodata-Isogen), Michael Hu
(Adobe Systems), Bernard Aschwanden (Publishing Smarter) and Bret
Freeman (CM Pros).

Learn more: http://www.travelthepath.com/conf/schedule.html.

Hope to see you in Austin, Texas, November 8-10, 2006.

IMHO, InDesign is after the market held by QuarkExpress (and is doing
a good job of it, I think), but FrameMaker is after ... sorry, I don't
see the competition. Maybe that is one of the problems?

All in all, I still find InDesign to slow and heavy to work with such
jobs as I do in FrameMaker. But then, I haven't don a lot with ID.

Happy new working week!
