RE: FrameMaker 10 Interface/Accessibility questions
Yves' suggestion is more useful to my needs that Wim's, since it can be done with a quick keypress rather than having to touch that obscene rodent thingie, although both will take you to the page where the cursor currently resides... if it is in text. I'm not really referring to moving from somewhere else in the document to the page where the cursor is though. It's more of an issue of being able to spot a thin sliver of a black cursor in black text, that is blinking very slowly, within a huge amount of screen real estate. The issue I have with both of the above solutions is that they require an action on my part. I want to be able to configure the color, size, and blink rate of the cursor, so I can tell at a glance where it is, not fumble around to find where it is or have to put the cursor somewhere just to know where it is. You probably should post this on the Wishlist page: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of Harding, Daniel B Sent: Friday, July 08, 2011 9:16 AM To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: FrameMaker 10 Interface/Accessibility questions I suspect I'm out of luck on these, but it doesn't hurt to ask: FrameMaker 10.0.1.1402 Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit 1. When I am reconciling index entries, I keep all the individual book files open in separate undocked windows, which keeps them from opening in the primary workspace as I edit a zillion index markers. With 10-20 windows open, it becomes difficult to know which window is the currently active chapter (sometimes I need to open that window a bit larger to check context of a marker) because there is ZERO color difference between active and inactive windows. I have not found any way to make the active file window stand out from all the others. This appears to be a Framemaker issue rather than Windows, as all Aero effects are disabled on windows generated within FrameMaker 2. I need the i-frame text position indicator (cursor) within the document (not the hovering cursor that moves as you move your mouse) to be more prominent on the screen. I frequently lose track of where I am, and have to either hit up and down arrows to see where the text indicator is moving. Ideally there would be a way to set the color, thickness, and blink frequency for it, for no other reason than aiding accessibility. Thanks in advance. Taking a flier at this, for Mac OS there are built-ins to improve all sorts of bits of the interface to deal with various impairments (not that I'm suggesting you have an impairment: the I-beam has always been a bit hard to spot). However, I am sure, from memory, that before these were added to the OS, there were third-party hac... bolt-ones to achieve the same thing. Have you checked to see if there are any third-party tools to increase cursor size OS-wide for Windows? -- Steve ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. Dan Harding Technical Editorial Specialist University of Illinois Tax School 339 Mumford Hall 1301 West Gregory Drive Urbana, IL 61801 217-333-0935 I can't help you with your first question, but for the second, there is a maker.ini setting to tell FrameMaker to use the system cursor. In the Preferences section of your maker.ini file, make sure you have this line: UseSystemCursor=On Then you can set one of the large Windows cursor schemes and FrameMaker will use it. Oddly, it works for the mouse cursor, but not for the insertion point cursor. In Windows, it's possible to modify that cursor so it's wider I've done it on my system, although for the life of me I can't remember how it's done, but googling produced several hits, including this one: http://bucarotechelp.com/computers/wintips/92062104.asp Word picks up the setting just fine but not all other applications respect it. For example, FrameMaker ignores it as well as Lotus Notes, which I'm using to write this. Personally, I'd rate that as a bug and maybe you should raise the issue with Adobe.
