That's exactly what the author of the text told me, that the numbers were white. That is it, Christopher. Thank you, Blanca. It may be "pietadora" entonces. That's insane how close the word (the two words!) was, but so unfamiliar I would have never guessed. Still waiting to get confirmation from

The machine I used had a tape, like a typewriter tape, which had the white "ink" that was used to stamp the numbers on the soundtrack and the workprint. You would zero the counter at your sync mark, run the picture, then load the sound, zreo the counter at the sync mark and run the soundtrack.
