Hello,
I just saw this email and noticed that the curatorial deadline is Oct. 1!
UGH, I missed it. I¹m part of a team that recently released a book/dvd
called ³Strange Attractors: Investigations in Non-Humanoid Extraterrestrial
Sexualities.²
According to recent scientific reports, there may be b
Grahame Weinbren. Where have I seen that name? Ah, here: At the Edge of Art,
by Joline Blais and Jon Ippolito (Thames and Hudson, 2006), p. 33. The authors
call their thinking "edge studies." It's an excellent book (and mentions Pip,

If this is off topic, I apologize.
I've a friend who is a documentary filmmaker in NYC, and she needs to
transfer some HI-8 tapes, and her camera is eating the tapes. Any
suggestions for someone to check out the camera or other suggestions for
a deck to transfer the footage?
Thanks in advance.
SOLUTION:
Buy a couple of Hi-8 camcorders.

Best best is a new deck. Digital 8 decks and cams are newer and easier to
find, and will work with 8 and Hi8 (8 works in hi8 decks but not nec.
vice-versa). Your local video art co-op or whatever should have cheap access
to some sort of video8 gear.
Look inside the tape door with a flashlight

Better solution: buy a Digital-8 camcorder (has to be a higher model number)
that can play back 8mm and Hi-8 tapes via FireWire. These apparently give
better results than any analog decks,
I would call a place like DCTV (Downtown Community Television) or MNN
(Manhattan Neighborhood Network) and see whether they have any hi-8 decks
still in use.

Be careful of the Digital-8 camcorders. I never knew anyone who had a digital
camcorder who didn't have a broken digital 8 camcorder. If Jeff says they give
good results when working, I absolutely take his word for it. But caveat emptor
when buying a used one, and don't pay too much.

On a related note, any clues on getting a tape out of an old hi-8 camcorder
without taking it apart? The thing went kaput on me. Still has power, just
the gate won't release tape. I bought another on Craigslist and is working
great, but still have tape stuck in the old one. Thanks ahead of time...
Hi Frameworks,
I was wondering if there is an easy way to order chemicals to hand process
black and white reversal, and color reversal in Paris?
Thanks
