I'm having trouble with a fresh build of 6.3. When I try to Xorg -configure I
get an error stating that the module pcidata is missing. this is independent
of the hardware I try this on. I will try to load Xorg manually tonight to
see if this fixes anything...

Switching username using SFTP

2008-01-13 Thread takhoos

When I ssh into a system which has different login name from the system I'm on
I use this syntax:
ssh -l  host.domain.com.

How does one do this with SFTP on the command line? The -l switch doesn't
work. The man pages on SFTP makes no mention of this.

RE: FreeBSD question

2008-01-03 Thread takhoos

 Hello
  I am Polish FreeBSD system administrator, I would like to participate
 in the course and get a certificate of achievement of FreeBSD system and
 in the future, if possible, I would like to become a trainer of FreeBSD.
 What do I have to do to get a certificate of an administrator and how
 can I become a trainer?

 Best regards,

Hi Michal,
   I got cerified by taking three online courses from New Jersey Institute of
Technology: http://cpe.njit.edu/opensourceunix/ . The classes were excellant.
  For more information you can e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] After you pass the
three courses, you get a nice certificate in the mail.

IPV6 NTP

2007-11-22 Thread takhoos

I am running FreeBSD 6.2 in a totally IPV6-only aware environment. I want to
set up an NTP server by pointing to an IPV6 stratum 1 address. Can I just add
an IPV6 address in the NTP.conf file just as I would do for an IPV4 server?

SSH login banner?

I need to apply an SSH user agreement policy so users agrees to the AUP

 conf file. Open it, look for Banner. I created a /etc/welcome.msg and put
 that location within the conf file. Restart sshd and viola. Now, wasnt
 this easier then someone telling you to have a look at some man page?! --

FreeBSD time servers and Windows clients

2007-09-02 Thread takhoos

Hi all,
   I have one FreeBSD NTP server which syncs all my server clocks. Getting
the NTP server running was a piece of cake following the instructions in the
online handbook. Recently I was asked to sync a bunch of windows machines (10
of them) to my NTP server. Now I'm not a windows person, so I asked one of
the windows people to figure out his side since my side was up and running.
He wrote this little .bat file to run on the windows boxes to be sync'd. Its
pretty straight forwardjust save it as a .bat file (time.bat) and run it
from your XP box. Make sure to enter your NTP IP address where the x's are
below. It seems to work fine for us. Your mileage may vary. There may be
better/easier ways of doing this, but this is what works ok for us

Here's the .bat fileuse it at your own risk

@echo Updating Time Service

@echo off

w32tm /config /update
@echo Restarting Time Service
@echo.
@echo.
net stop w32time
net start w32time
pause

@echo Verify your Time Server's IP Address and SNTP Flag of 0x8
@echo.
net time /querysntp
@echo.
@echo Exiting configuration
pause
