understanding this portupgrade error

2007-03-27 Thread Michael P. Soulier
Hi,

I'm upgrading cacti, and it's failing on the net-snmp port.

=== An older version of net-mgmt/net-snmp is already installed
(net-snmp-5.2.3_4)
You may wish to ``make deinstall'' and install this port again
by ``make reinstall'' to upgrade it properly.
If you really wish to overwrite the old port of net-mgmt/net-snmp
without deleting it first, set the variable FORCE_PKG_REGISTER
in your environment or the make install command line.
*** Error code 1

I'm confused. Of course an older version is installed, that's why it's called
an upgrade.

Why is this happening?

Thanks,
Mike

I'm confused. Of course an older version is installed, that's why
 it's called an upgrade.

The new doesn't overwrite the old.

Portupgrade removes the the old version before installing the new, and
if the new version fails to install, it restores the old version from a
backup package.

Possibly you have two net-snmp packages installed. Another cause of
this is an incorrectly specified dependency, where net-snmp doesn't
actually provide the file that's used to determine whether net-snmp
needs to be built. Or there may have been a problem with the pkg_delete
of the old version.

  Hi,

I'm upgrading cacti, and it's failing on the net-snmp port.

  ===  Installing for net-snmp-5.3.1_2
  ===   net-snmp-5.3.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/perl5.8.8 -
found === Generating temporary packing list
=== Checking if net-mgmt/net-snmp already installed
=== An older version of net-mgmt/net-snmp is already installed
  (net-snmp-5.2.3_4)
You may wish to ``make deinstall'' and install this port again
by ``make reinstall'' to upgrade it properly.
If you really wish to overwrite the old port of
net-mgmt/net-snmp without deleting it first, set the variable
FORCE_PKG_REGISTER in your environment or the make install
command line. *** Error code 1

I'm confused.

Or there may have been a problem with the pkg_delete
 of the old version.

at this point, i would just enter net-mgmt/net-snmp, and go ahead and do a
'make deinstall', then 'make reinstall' (or actually, i always 'make install
clean', every time, no matter what). realistically, net-snmp is probably
already built right now, and would probably just have to do the final install
and register after the make deinstall.

hehe believe me... you could be having much worse problems right now with cacti!

Portupgrade is trying to add a group www with gid 80 which already exists.
Try cat /etc/goup | grep 80 (without quotes) to see which group is
assigned gid 80.
Then you can take measures changing the gid of that group.

What's strange is that 80 is allocated for apache. I've removed that
line, and still encounter the same error. Any thoughts?

Thanks, incidentally-- this one's kinda hairy.

portupgrade error

2006-06-09 Thread Aguiar Magalhaes
Hi list,

I'm updating the Free 5.3 to Free 6.1. I've used the
sequence:

cvsup -g -L 2 freebsd.sup
mergemaster -p
mergemaster
cd /usr/src
make buildworld
make installworld
cd /usr/src/sys/i386/conf
config MYKERNEL
make cleandepend
make depend
make
make install
make clean

portupgrade -a -m BATCH=yes

The portupgrade command doesn't work well (file
existent, rugby error, etc). Is the sequence ok ??
Anything else ??

Thanks,
Aguiar

Hmm... your sequence is a bit weird. You should check:

/usr/src/Makefile

Also have a look at this:

portupgrade error

2005-07-21 Thread maarfree
Hi all,

Please see below. Why does portupgrade -a not work and does -afp? I have
tried everything, I read UPDATING and added ENV['PKG_DBDRIVER'] =
'bdb1_hash' and ENV['PORTS_DBDRIVER'] = 'bdb1_hash' to pkgtools.conf.
I removed pkgdb.db and INDEX'es. Rebuild everything with portsdb -u and
portsdb -uU and I even removed /usr/ports and did a fresh cvsup. Anyone
got a clue?

Has anyone seen this before and have any suggestions to fix it?
I ran into the same problem sometime ago and IIRC it was because of a
Ruby update. You can try to pkg_delete portupgrade and install it again,
it worked for me.

I just rebuilt it. So, they haven't popped a change in on us. This is really a
strange error so lets start at the beginning. What does your cvsup
port-supfile look like and how do you run cvsup to update your ports. What
options do you use on portupgrade? FWIW, config.guess is extracted from the
tarball.

Do you have anything strange in your /etc/make.conf?

cvsup the port tree with ports-all. You have most likely not cvsuped
or cvsuped with a partial update.

If there was a problem in bsd.port.mk, I would have seen it too. I cvsuped
ports-all, and rebuild the INDEX[.db], just a few minutes before I read your
first email.

Libtool-1.3 doesn't have any listed dependancies. I figured that a partial
cvsup (!=ports-all) wouldn't affect it. The reason I wanted to see your
supfile was to see if you had the delete option to get rid of old files.

Your make.conf doesn't look that much different from mine.

I still don't see why your shell can't see the missing file, especially since
it is part of the extract.

Try rebuilding the pkgdb first, iirc that will some times cuase an
error like that. You want to rebuild it in fix it.

If that does not fix it, reinstall the port... There is one update
depending on what you have installed, that iirc, will also cuase an
error like that.

Hi Lowell,

I have to work on being a bit more verbose. The day after I posted the problem the
maintainer patched it and installed fine after that. I am running 4.9 and I haven't
explored the make.conf yet, not active.
You can view my OS, version, and mail client in my mail header as well. I guess I must
use that more than others. Of course the question doesn't have to apply to puter I'm
using. Thank you for taking the time to answer me though, appreciate it.
