I read a lot of it. I followed handbook with no success. I can
connect to the network (no difference if it secured or not) i get IP
from DHCP but I can't even ping my router. All drivers are loaded,
my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf is all right, I even add a line to
the /etc/resolve.conf. I've reinstalled FreeBSD 9.0 and first thing I
wanted to check was my wireless and unfortunately, it's the same, not
working, same problem. Does the FreeBSD9.0 has any hidden firewall
which block my ping ? My router is find. Firstly, I thought I was a
bug then I bought another NIC with Realtek 8187 chipset and things
look the same. Both cards can scan networks with results, and they
seem to work proper so any ideas what can be wrong ?

It might have been nice if you had given your router information.
Anyway, did you happen to assign a specific IP to your machine in the
routers configuration? Usually something like: http//192.168.1.0 or
192.168.1.1 or something like that will get you into the router's
configuration screen. I am assuming that the router is assigning you IP
and not your PC. You might try shutting down everything, including the
router, possibly even zeroing out the router (probably totally
unnecessary) and restarting the router then a minute later the rest of
your network. See what happens then. Did you check the /etc/hosts
file for any errant entries?

Hi, I think if you're getting IP from DHCP then it's a routing issue.
ie,
# netstat -r

# route add default 192.168.0.1

The bridge is not necessary. If you're trying to make all the traffic
traverse the wireless network, you'll have to change the default gateway
on the client. Otherwise the traffic will traverse bge0 as indicated in
the client routing table. Otherwise, I would examine the firewall.
Change it to allow all traffic and see if that makes a difference.
Verify that your nat configuration is correct.

Re: Firewall with 3 NIC (1 wireless) problem

2006-05-25 Thread Mark Moellering
Dennis,

Thanks so much for your help. Here is the ifconfig -v and netstat (a
variety) from both the client and firewall.
Both the client and the firewall have an ath0 (192.168.2.1 for
firewall,
192.168.2.5 for the client) and a bge0 (192.168.1.1 for firewall, 192.168.1.2
for client). After booting the client, I disconnect the ethernet cable on
the bge0 interface to force traffic over the wireless ath0.
I am by no means a professional, I may have missed something or be
doing
something fairly obviously wrong.

Thanks Again,

Mark Moellering

RE: Firewall with 3 NIC (1 wireless) problem

2006-05-24 Thread fbsd
This may be a wild shot in the dark.
Netgear WPN311 WG311T are both CLIENT RangeMax Wireless PCI
Adapter cards.
Looks to me like you are missing hardware needed to make your wanted
wireless network to work.

On your wired LAN you cable a Nic card in your gateway box to
a hub/router/switch through which all other PC's on the LAN are
connected into.

A wireless system works much the same way. Your gateway box should
have a Nic cabled to an wireless base/router through which all other
PC's on the wireless LAN broadcast/communicate with.

You need a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824 which is a
stand-a-lone piece of equipment cabled to your gateway box. The
Netgear WPN311 card you have in the gateway box is useless. Use it
for some other PC you want on your wireless LAN.

Please take note that the built in hardware wireless wep/wpa
encryption security is a laugh. Any body with some free software off
the internet can drive down your street and pick up your wireless
base broadcast and gain access to your network and the public
internet through you if you only rely on wep/wpa encryption for
access security. There are many solutions out there. Review the
questions list archives on wireless security for many suggestion on
how to protect your wireless network.

I am not a USB/Ralink expert, but it the node can be removed
mid-transmission elsewhere (ural_free_tx_list) on input errors.
I don't know about threading issues that would require extra locking
as well:

Page Fault - Wireless problem?

2006-02-22 Thread Dave Lewis
I am getting the following panic that happens intermittently using 6,0
and 6.1 prerelease with GENERIC and modified kermels

Thinkpad wireless problem

2005-10-04 Thread Matt Juszczak

Hi all,

My thinkpad wifi card is being a bit odd...

When I do this:

ifconfig wi0 wepmode on ssid myssid wepkey 0x1231231234 up

It shows status as associated, and a tcpdump shows activity on the
network, but I can't ping anywhere nor can I get anywhere (of course I
set an IP manually and also do a route add default 192.168.0.1 to add
the default gateway).

When I disable wep on the router, and do:

ifconfig wi0 wepmode off ssid myssid up

it works fine. I can run dhclient wi0, etc. all works fine.

So something is up with wep on this IBM Thinkpad T23 internal wireless
card. Any ideas?

Maybe I'm being dumb, but the laptop says the key is a 40 bit wep key
while the router says its a 64 bit hex... although I think these are
identical because one is decimal and one is hex, correct? Or is this
where my problem is?

Regards,

Matt
