Try either http://www.freesbie.org/
or as per an earler post try pcbsd in the free vmware player
(see http://www.pcbsd.org/index.php?id=23)

You might try a google search. The following turned up two useful
results in the first 3 hits for me. I have found FreeSBIE to be a good
one (3rd result on that page).

I perfer a LiveCD so I can first run it on my computer before I
totally convert. Also when and if I convert will I lose all my
desktop files?

As long as you make a backup of your desktop files, they will still be
around when you switch to another OS. As to whether you will be able to
use them or not, that depends on what type/format the files are.

I'm running FreeBSD with a dual boot config at the moment. Windows on one

In past installations I've had Windows and FreeBSD sharing a drive.

What I've found convenient is that I am able to access my NTFS drives from
FreeBSD (it would seen read-only however)

FreeBSD as a desktop environment is quite useable. With KDE 3.5 I'm at the
point where I rarely need to boot into Windows anymore.

I can say that if you want to learn an OS FreeBSD makes it easier than many
because it has so much excellent documentation. Installing FreeBSD as your
desktop OS definitly forces a person to learn but as you do you will notice
it is very flexible.

It's a iso file...here is the command that the script uses to create
the iso image:

 /usr/local/bin/mkisofs -b boot/cdboot -no-emul-boot -c boot/boot.catalog
-r -l -L -V LiveCD -o /usr/LiveCD.iso . >> /usr/local/livecd/log

If you're looking for a Live CD of FreeBSD, check out either
the LiveCD list:

http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php

Although it doesn't seem to show PC-BSD:

http://www.pcbsd.org/

which, IIRC, is a live CD too.

I had no problems with pcbsd's livecd.
Puter's already setup in the bios to
check the cd 1st when booting. After
it booted, the only work I had to do
at all was let it know my network settings:

ifconfig xxx.xxx.x.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.x
(i use a static ip - i don't use dhcp on lan)

route add gateway xxx.xxx.x.x
(for my router - you can check the syntax, it's
been a while since I used it - man route)

echo "nameserver xx.xxx.x.xxx" >> /etc/resolv.conf
(for dns - nameserver on isp)

The project maintainers claim they haven't tried.

There's nothing particularly complicated about livecd,
but it will definitely need some minor changes to handle
changed paths and so forth.

You might want to try freesbie, also in the ports.

Well, I would think the first thing to do would be to go and look
at line 298 in the /usr/local/livecd/livecd.sh script and see what
it looks like. Maybe something got mangled when it was
downloaded on configured.vi will do it nicely.

If there is some script flow control - sounds like there is, you might
have to work out how it got to that line in the script and why it
thinks it needs a then statement.

Those pretty errors are always the most forgivable ones

No really, where does that error occur? when starting up? after what
messages does it occur? What version are you running, when did you take
it of the site etc?

cd /usr/local/livecd/
./livecd.sh

I've tried the livecd out of ports and off the project site with the

Hey Ray,
Welkom Ebrandi (Maintainer of LiveCD)
Indeed, nice girls are fine ;)
I installed the scripts, and it seems that you need to change elsif then
to else, since elsif want to follow a if like statement which is not
included, nor an else below that phrase is used

When i changed the 2 lines that have those 2 lines, it seems to work..
I included the maintainer that with a fresh install i get the line 305
and 581 marked as bogus, having elsif then statements, with no if
option, changing them to else make it do it ' s magic.

Cheers
