[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2899] Name unit class variable uc, not ut as unit type

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist

URL:
  http://gna.org/patch/?2899

Summary: Name unit class variable uc, not ut as unit
type
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: cazfi
Submitted on: Sat 13 Aug 2011 09:16:20 AM EEST
Category: general
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test

 Open/Closed: Open
 Discussion Lock: Any
 Planned Release: 2.4.0

___

Details:

This is something I noticed as part of bug #13630 patch. There's
unit class pointer called ut in ruleset.c. There is no real bug in this,
but it can be confusing as there is some unit type handling in same function.
Attached patch renames variable as uc

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #13630] [Patch] Automatic move_type detection

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist

Update of bug #13630 (project freeciv):

Category:None = general
Priority: 1 - Later = 5 - Normal
  Status: Postponed = In Progress

___

Follow-up Comment #2:

I seem to be changing my mind back and forth about this patch.

This only makes explicit move_type definition optional, not remove
possibility to give it completely. So ruleset author still has complete
control if (s)he so wish.
My original reason for writing this patch is still very much valid so patch
should go forward: it discourages anybody (coders implementing freeciv engine
features, ruleset authors) from depending on move_type. We've worked hard in
generalizing move_type properties, and I don't want us to take any steps
backwards.

[Freeciv-Dev] Twenty years of Civilization

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist
I were looking for information about when Freeciv project started
(just playing with the idea of releasing 3.0 the year we turn 20).
Noticed from http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline that Civ1 Amiga
500 version was released August 1991, exactly 20 years ago.

 2) The metaserver page doesn't show up, though a browser can connect to
   http://meta.freeciv.org/metaserver.phtml at the same time.

I don't know, last couple of weeks I've had a lot of trouble with
freeciv.org DNS even with browsers. Occasionally
http://meta.freeciv.org/; has even lead me to wikia... (like
www.freeciv.org should) Also, remember that client shows only
compatible servers while browsers shows all.
And yes, due to nature of how dns information propagates, I've had no
trouble in connecting meta.freeciv.org from computer I've had remote
connection to same time as local machine has been unable to find it.

 3) client -t option is ignored

 all Freeciv* packages are installed.

-t doesn't take filename with path, but just tileset part from
tileset.tilespec. So try with -t trident.

Oh, your metaserver URL is missing protocal part http://;.
In fact
1) Correct URL is http://meta.freeciv.org/metaserver.phtml;, though
http://meta.freeciv.org/; should work at the moment.
2) It's the default metaserver, so no need to explicitly give it (in
server side you need to give -m if you want it listed to metaserver)

It's not so much about freeciv packager, but about Debian's general
policy. They will not incorporate new upstream releases, not even
purely bugfix ones, to their released versions. Since they had freeciv
version 2.2.1 at the time when squeeze entered freeze (many months
before release), 2.2.1 will be squeeze's freeciv version when it's
retired.
New freeciv releases usually make it relatively quickly to debian
development version repos (latest is 2.2.7-2 at the moment)

Ok, this might be the reason, since there are no compatible games announced
right now.

OK, tcpdump reveals that freeciv loads the data from metaserver.

See also this forum post: http://forum.freeciv.org/viewtopic.php?t=7009

A message no servers with your freeciv version might be suitable.

yes, i tried that before.

What remains is:

starting problems from command line (wrong path/environment?)

no hint for missing servers in metaserver

no hint for gaming zone (?)

good luck

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18491 (project freeciv):

Well, with autogen.sh handling of directory names with whitespaces lead to
configure time error:
checking whether build environment is sane... configure: error: unsafe srcdir
value: `../src.white space'

This does *not* mean autogen.sh should not be fixed. autogen.sh fix allows
configure to fail as it should with no other damage, whereas currently there
are issues like wrong directory getting configured.

We have no release date for 2.3.1 decided yet, but usually bugs are still
found, and fixed, quite rapidly after a.b.0 release so a.b.1 follows quickly.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #18482] Bus error on secfile_lookup_int_vec()

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18482 (project freeciv):

- granary_num_inis is definied as UINT8 in packets.def - generated
packets_gen.h has it as int.
- pointer to it is cast as (size_t *) in ruleset.c

Now, is size of size_t bigger than size of int in that system? Does attached
patch help?

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2906] Statically linked threaded ai

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist

URL:
  http://gna.org/patch/?2906

 Summary: Statically linked threaded ai
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: cazfi
Submitted on: Sat 13 Aug 2011 11:57:43 PM EEST
Category: ai
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test
 Privacy: Public
 Assigned to: None
Originator Email:
 Open/Closed: Open
 Discussion Lock: Any
 Planned Release: 2.4.0

___

Details:

This patch makes it possible to configure freeciv so that threaded ai is
statically linked in. Mainly this is meant to provide threaded ai even when
there is no loadable ai module support in freeciv (it's not even possible to
build loadable ai module support in all environments), but nothing prevents
enabling both static threaded ai and loadable ai module support to be used for
loading other modules.
This is usable only with patch #2894, as otherwise you cannot create ais of
type threaded when loadable ai module support is disabled.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2903] [Metaticket] xml-files instead of self-made section-file format

2011-08-13 Thread J. M. Gorbach

Follow-up Comment #1, patch #2903 (project freeciv):

Which freeciv-specific section file format? Scenarios? Rulesets? Maybe
Wesnoth system (files .cfg for scenarios, units, etc.)?

I don't know xml/xslt, but I am interested (especially scenarios).

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2867] MySQL configure checks in 64bit RedHat derivatives

2011-08-13 Thread Marko Lindqvist

Follow-up Comment #3, patch #2867 (project freeciv):

doesn't mysql_config exist for this very purpose ?

Indeed, but if avoidable, I rather don't make switch to its use in sstable
branch.
It's already used in trunk.
