Follow-up Comment #1, bug #22980 (project freeciv): More an FYI note than statement that this is how it should be: Over the years different public server setups have had their code in separate repositories, i.e., traditionally public (or any automatically run) server support has been considered to belong to separate projects, and not something to freeciv itself. gna should have (very much outdated) repository about old freeciv pubserver, and I've recently been pushing the scriptset I used to use at cazfi.net to https://github.com/cazfi/pubcaz . [Freeciv-Dev] [bug #22980] freeciv-server: please support systemd service files for dedicated servers
Follow-up Comment #2, bug #22980 (project freeciv): Thanks for the information. However I believe it would be beneficial for Freeciv when dedicated servers were treated the same way as the most common use cases and it would help to provide init scripts or systemd service files as examples at least. I think two things are needed to simplify hosting and maintenance of such a server. Starting Freeciv as a service and using one (or multiple) global configuration file(s) instead of pure command-line options. Just to understand my trail of thought here: I have recently set up a dedicated Freeciv 2.4.3 Debian server for my gaming project, linuxiuvat.de. Although the command line usage is well documented, I feel that a global configuration file, preferably installed to /etc/freeciv/freeciv-dedicated.conf and a service file would make it far easier for a sysadmin to maintain the server. I thought about adding a service file to the Debian package but since some server options are only available as command-line options, this might be more complicated. Hence I opened this bug report, so that someone could tell me if this is really something the community needs or not. I did something similar for minetest a few days ago. That's how a freeciv-server@.service file might look like provided that all server options could be read from a conf file. A server could then be started with systemctl start freeciv-server@freeciv.service For multiple instances @freeciv has to be replaced with the name of the configuration file in /etc/freeciv [Unit] Description=Freeciv dedicated server with %i.conf server config Documentation=man:freeciv-server(6) After=network.target [Service] User=Debian-freeciv Group=games ExecStart=/usr/lib/freeciv/freeciv-server --config /etc/freeciv/%i.conf [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?22980 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #22981] Most special tiles are ineffective with generator 4 (Fair islands)
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #22981 (project freeciv): I don't see how this could be related to the generator used. It places them on the map, but once they are there (regardless of generator, or even if loaded as part of a scenario or placed in the editor mode) the generator has nothing to do how they behave. Do you have a savegame from which to check such a ineffetive wheat? I assume this is 2.5.0-beta2 as it's the first time fair islands has been released. Follow-up Comment #2, bug #22981 (project freeciv): I thought it was related to the generator only because the standard settings don't exhibit the problem. But starting a game with only the map generator changed to fair is enough to run into the issue. I confirm this was found on 2.5.0-beta2. Follow-up Comment #4, bug #22981 (project freeciv): I can reproduce. (Attached save file in the hope that original pre-save state can be recreated from gameseed + mapseed in it.) The outputs displayed on the map (with Ctrl+W, and in city dialog) are as expected given the specials, but the actual city output (shown in the column on the left of the city dialog) is as though the specials aren't there. city centre: Plains/Wheat on map: 3/1/1 (-despotism, +auto-irrigation, +city centre minima) city dialog (working that single tile): 2/1/1 Additionally work a Hills/Wine tile on map: 1/0/3 city dialog: 3/1/1 (as if this tile +1/0/0) Instead working a plain Hills tile (1/0/0), total city output is the same (3/1/1). On reloading the save file, the specials are still there, but the city output is now consistent with them. Update of bug #22981 (project freeciv): Status:None = Ready For Test Planned Release: = 2.5.0 ___ Follow-up Comment #6: Seemed to be reliably reproducible in S2_5. Attached patch worked in initial testing, but I don't know if it's the correct fix (why the original tile copied from lacks the S_RESOURCE_VALID). Also fix the case of resources not getting cleared in the beginning (I assume this could cause problems with retried map generation). So, it *is* due to map generator, since in S2_5 (unlike in trunk) setting a resource actually requires setting two things - the resource itself and its validity. [Freeciv-Dev] [bug #20761] Illegal treaty lives forever
Update of bug #20761 (project freeciv): Planned Release: 2.6.0 = 2.5.0, 2.6.0 ___ Follow-up Comment #5: - S2_5 version Probably not porting to S2_4. While this fixes real problems in AI diplomacy (them being unable to agree on new treaties between each other) it's a bit risky change for very mature branch, to a bug with which we have lived without big problems for a long time, probably from the time diplomacy between AI players was first added. [Freeciv-Dev] [bug #22982] Negative turns to Goal as Observer
URL: http://gna.org/bugs/?22982 Summary: Negative turns to Goal as Observer Project: Freeciv Submitted by: cazfi Submitted on: Sun 23 Nov 2014 07:01:02 AM EET Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Priority: 5 - Normal Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: None Planned Release: ___ Details: I've seen this twice now, as an Observer of AI player in late game. First time was actually after the game had ended, and I thought that calculation goes wrong only at that point. AI player I'm observing is currently researching Conscription and has 2445 / 22382 (6646 turns) (Yes, his empire has been reduced to a single city producing 3 bulbs / turn). Now he changed also goal to Conscription (I don't remember if the other case was also about goal == research) and for goal it shows 1 step - -2444 bulbs - -814 turns, i.e., the required bulb count is almost exactly -bulbs researched (in the other case it was exactly that). ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?22982 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #22982] Negative turns to Goal as Observer
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #22982 (project freeciv): Later turn he changed goal to Laser, and entire research path of 16 techs was shown to cost ~26000, i.e., less than Conscription alone. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?22982 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
