I'm using an old legacy system in DOS that uses three custom built ISA
cards.
Will it be possible for me to install FreeDOS on a newer PC (with ISA slots)
and still access those cards correctly?

I use 4dos a free command.com emulator which has many more functions
than command.com.
It has the ability to display a directory listing in color, similar to
what happen with --color=auto in an xterm.
Can anyone help me to get color in an xdosemu terminal?
