Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't freedos include an option
to run it from the cd?? Burn the iso to cd, boot it and check out
the options on the first screen that shows up. If I remember correctly,
you can install, boot the hard disk, or run directly from the cd, to
check it out.

I am not using a PII. I am using an Abit KD7E with an AMD Athlon xp
1800 and sr2 won't install. sr1 and several previous releases work.

Just remove nlsfunc from your config sys. Then chcp will no
longer work, but you can still use display and mode to switch
codepages manually.
If it doesn't work, try to download sr#1. It works fine.

It is okay, as sr1 works fine for what I'm doing. However, I would
like to let the FreeDOS community know what's happening. Also,
if there is a simple fix I can do on my end I'd like to try it.

with service release 2. I had to go back and install sr1. I have

Yes, I also had problems installing service release 2 to hd with the cd.
It would hang after the first or second screen (I don't remember 100%,
sorry). Never got to the graphical installer at any rate. I had to go
back and install sr1. I wonder if it has anything to do with the
unstable kernel.
