Re: [Freedos-user] How create a booting freddos cd live

2013-01-02 Thread iw2evk

Hi Bruce,

i've download your package, but i've a problem.

I've download and extract files on root, then ,with my cd editor i've burned

nothing appear. The notebook seem dead (search on cd and hang up, no isolinux
start).
I suppose i due setting some command for make the cd bootable, but PBurn

Can you create for me a zip file with right iso image (in dos add FDAPM and
last DEVLOAD version) , so i can burn directly the cd?

P.s. i suppose can be intersting also for others users ,and can be place in
Fd distro page under description FD 1.1. LIVE CD ONLY.

Thanks

There's no full-proof method yet as that also means specifying which
program you use to create the master ISO.

 mkisofs -R -D -V FreeDOS 1.0b -o /tmp/fdbasecd-remastered.iso -b \
   ./isolinux/isolinux.bin -c ./isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot \
   -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table ./

is what Eric Auer once wrote, but specific to Linux.

If all you want to do is write a downloaded ISO to (re)writeable optical
disc, then use some CD recording program (CDRECORD or WODIM, or on
Windows programs like IMGBURN) and point them to your CD-image file
 (FD11SRC.ISO or FDBOOTCD.ISO file).

CD-writing under DOS is very rare as most Unix-ported ISO9660-tools
depend on a SCSI subsystem, thus requiring a SCSI or ASPI driver for
your SCSI/IDE controller to which the CD-drive is connected. With no
publicly redistributable ASPI driver, people generally are out of luck.

 P.s have a good 2013!!

 Same :)

Re: [Freedos-user] printing to USB

2009-07-16 Thread iw2evk

For solve the problem you can download the free software dosusb

http://www.georgpotthast.de/usb/dosusb.zip

in the package are insert some utlities for printing via usb port on
DOS
see for documentation :

3.1 Printer driver

There are two printer drivers available. LPT1USB.SYS installs as a
LPT1: device
while PRNUSB.SYS installs as the PRNUSB: device. So you with the
latter driver
you can use LPT1: for other printers if needed, while with LPT1USB.SYS
you can
print from the DOS Editor or other application programs directly.

Both are printer device drivers which use DosUSB to print to USB
printers. They will
work with a HP 2420d Laserprinter, a HP 880C, a HP 5940 and a HP 460C
inkjet
printer. They will also work with parallel to USB adapters. Check the
endpoints and
use the setalt utility to set the interface before printing here.

LPT1USB.SYS and PRNUSB.SYS are loaded with a device= statement in
the
config.sys file or with the DEVLOAD utility. Load DosUSB then, do not
use the /L
command line option here! The default device address is one, the
default device
endpoint is two. Use the command line options e.g. /D2 /E1 to select
device address
two and endpoint number one. Use USBView to determine the right
settings for your
printer.

These drivers cannot be used with low cost GDI printers, since these
do not accept
ASCII code for printing. They expect data which controls their print
head directly.
This protocol is vendor specific and usually not available. If a
printer accepts ASCII
code via its parallel interface, it usually can also do this via its
USB interface.
Use type dosusb.txt lpt1 or type dosusb.txt prnusb to print
the file dosusb.txt
from the DOS prompt. Or open lpt1 or prnusb as a file in your
application program

Michael Potter-4 wrote:

 Hi,

I have googled and googled and googled this question and have not found an
easy answer. That is strange because this seems like something that would
 be a common problem.

I have an old DBase application that I am reviving to run under FreeDOS.
 It
prints to a parallel printer when running on real hw, but when running in
FreeDOS in VirtualBox I want it to print to a USB printer.

What is the best way to do that?

The printer shows up in the Devices-USB menu in Virtual box.

Here is the advise I received from a friend how to do it under DOS running
 within XP:
 a) Setup the printer in Windows, then SHARE the printer. Then in DOS,
 one
 can do this:
 b) NET USE lpt1: \\windowspc\printershare

What would be the equivalent of that in FreeDOS?

Re: [Freedos-user] PNG viewer

2009-06-15 Thread iw2evk

you can use this in conjunction ox HX extender (www.japheth.de)

http://www.advsys.net/ken/util/kpic.exe

Ken's PICture viewer. Supports: JPG,PNG,GIF,TGA,PCX,BMP. View all files in a
directory or files inside a .ZIP. (no need to extract first!) Example: kpic
/zduke3d_hrp.zip *.png *.jpg. Select any DirectX mode on the command line.
Example: kpic /1024x768 *.* KPIC allows you to scroll and zoom quickly (hold
mouse button). It supports a fancy 4x4 filter (uses MMX code) to interpolate
samples cleanly when you use the zoom feature. This is a high quality filter
- most 3D accelerators use bilinear interpolation which is only a 2x2 filter
:) There are 3 interpolation modes; use TAB to select between them. (Mode
0:4x4 when stopped/nearest when moving, Mode 1:4x4 always, Mode 2:nearest
always). (See PNGOUT.HTM for a more complete description of supported image
formats)

[Freedos-user] CDRECORD : how to delete a directory from a CD RW

2008-12-15 Thread iw2evk

Hi at all,

i've created some directory on a multi session cd rw with mkisofs and
cdrecord.
Now i want to delete a directory with all files in it, but i don't remember
the number of track assigned to directory.

It's possible deleting a directory using the name of directory instead track
number?

ie
 cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -blank track \cats

instead of

cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -blanck track 5

thanks

[Freedos-user] cdrecord CGYWIN and Hx extender

2008-09-04 Thread iw2evk

Hi at all,
i've download from

http://www.student.tugraz.at/thomas.plank/index_en.html

the last version of cdrecord for win 32 and support files and i've PEstubbed
using hx extender.

Mkisofs and cdrecord seem to work , but don't recognizing the aspi drivers
for dos.

i.e. i load panasonic usbaspi.sys and usbcd.sys.
then, if i create a .raw files from a directory on HDD with mkisofs all work
fine.
But if i try to merge the a files with magic number to a existing
multisession cd i receive
a message like aspi drivers don't found.

I suppose cdrecord and mkisofs search WIN drivers and don't recognizing DOs
drivers loaded.
Someone have a suggestion for work around to problems.
If possible patch the problem can be used new release from cygwin without
standing A PORTING IN DOS!

Thanks for suggestions

As long as the modem understands the AT modem command set, and it is
exposed as a serial port, it should have a good chance of running.

 Hi again,

well if you can compile devload at all (you need tasm or
the free arrowasm asm, www.dunfield.com/downloads.htm )
then you can help yourself with a patch / workaround:

mov bx,0fffh; never desire 64k of UMBs

Change this line to use 3ffh instead of 0fffh, then your
devload will give drivers only 16k instead of 64k in /H
UMB mode. Might be too small for other drivers, though.

Maybe a nicer workaround would be:

mov bx,80h ; first fit, try UMB first, low
 2nd
; (4xh is only UMB, 00h iss low
 only)

Change the 80h to 40h, then your devload will never fall
back from UMB to low RAM in /H UMB mode. It will just
fail to load a driver if not enough UMB is free instead.

I think those workarounds should make devload do what you
want in YOUR computer, they are just not universal enough
to be put into an official version :-)

 Eric

PS: SHELLHIGH would work, but FreeCOM command.com does
need more than 100 kB of RAM during startup and your UMB
is way too small for that. It only needs 3 kB later, so
it is no problem that those 3 kB will be in low RAM :-).

Hi Roberto,

Unfortunately the question is not whether I *want* but whether I *can*.
It has been years since PictView for DOS was successfully compiled
last time. It has been years since my DOS machine died.
About releasing source code: it contains a lot of know-how and most
of it is used in today's commercial (non-DOS) versions of PictView.
Plus there are many licensed (paying) users of PictView, including
the DOS versions, that prevent me from releasing the source code
public. However, after several years of being very busy, I should have
plenty of time in late summer. I will try to resurrect PictView for DOS,
time to time I receive requests for it. I will keep you posted.

OR make aporting of DOS of this open source:

mundelete is a program to undelete files from MsDos/Windows disks. It
supports FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 and vfat extensions. It works under Unix systems.

 I've found norton 4 on adbandonedware site , but don't support fat32.
Dr dos undelete don't work (no memory massage and hangup!)
I supposte the best solution is the upgrade of freedos undelete with
 fat32
 support.
 Someone want to try?
