The tksurfer command is deprecated/no longer supported.
You could try using freeview directly or runtksurferfv, which may take
the same options as tksurfer but run freeview to display things.

Hi,
In response to the message below, I have been getting the exact
same error when running tksurfer on a particular workstation.
tksurfer does display correctly, but the drawing is very slow, as if
running remotely (or not using the video card). This happens with versions
3.0.5 and 4.5.0.

I am currently trying to view one of the surfaces generated by recon-all

It seems that you are using running this Centos inside a VMWare.
TkSurfer works fine in Virtualbox (2.1.4) but I'm not sure it'll do in
current vmware

FYI, Freesurfer running with a VirtualBox on Windows is available in
v4.2.0 (not yet v4.3.0) here:
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/freesurfer/4.2.0
Get the file FSVboxVDI_PPJ.rar and read the file README-

Thanks you. I actually tried this already (I saw this solution was suggested
to users that experienced the same problem). Unfortunately this is not
working, I still get the error message:
surfer: ### redraw failed: no gl window open
Is there anything else that you would suggest to try?
Thank you

tksurfer: error while loading shared libraries: libglut.so.3: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Do you have glut installed? If you are running a Red Hat box, you can
check by:
$ rpm -qa | grep glut
Or just looking for libglut* in /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib.
