Thanks to all that helped, it was my own stupid fault. I had `files bind`
rather than `files dns` in nsswitch.conf :( doh! Its all working now...

You need to do some setup on the firewall to accomplish that. There's a
document on checkpoint web site "Firewall-1 Version 4.0 Securemote
split/encrypted DNS quick reference guide rev 1.4". Sorry I dont have the
exact URL.
Basically it tells you how to modify dnsinfo.c and crypt.def to

the /etc/hostname.qfe[x]
files but it refuses to see the card or interfaces. The qfe entries do not
appear in the /etc/path_to_inst file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, all my fault... the qfe card didnt sit properly in the slot... when
I tightened up the screw on the backplane, it pulled one end down and the
other end up and out of the slot. I removed the screw, pushed it back in
again and its all working fine...
