Hi Ken, I installed the Pioneer DVR-116D lately, it's a cheap fast drive. Yes you need Patchburn if you want to burn from the Finder. But if you use Toast for burning you'll have all the speeds available w/o Patchburn. There is also a speedburn patch on the net so you will be able to access

Yes I'm just burning from iTunes. I had a firewire CD-R before and it wrote much faster (14X +) before it finally died. The wierd thing with this new drive is that iTunes rarely displays the write speed, just finish time, but when it does it doesn't really get above 8X. I have my setting in
