i have a sawtooth, which i know didn't come with an ADC monitor. however, i'd like to have an adc-capable card in my parts bin. i looked at one on ebay but there is an extra tab with a few contact on it, maybe 1/2 to 1 inch in front of the agp contacts. i thought apple used contacts 3 and 11

Unless the E-mac was like 50eur or so I would preffer to invest in the powermac... 512Mb PC133 ram as said is dirt cheap this days...and will give you a nice boost vs the 512Mb that you have now... If you need some advice on upgrades, read the powerpc faq that I made on Macrumors

My G5 1.8 single (late 2004) has an Nvidia 5200 card w/ that same connector. My best guess is that since AGP does not have pins for Power and USB, that's what it's for. Only macs that originally shipped with ADC connectors would have that port - so not all G5's have it from what I understand. USB

Those extra contacts on the second tab are what carry the +25V DC that powers an ADC monitor. Pins 3 and 11 DO carry the USB signal. To the poster that said USB requires 4 pins - Remember that two of the USB pins carry +5V DC, which is available in the native AGP spec. Only two USB pins actually

Apple has no reason to support all the different hardware out there. However, if you buy the right hardware, it's pretty simple to install Leopard or Snow Leopard on a PC. I currently run two Hackintosh's, one a desktop and one a laptop. They run great and are totally worth the time it takes to
