This will allow me to have a travel HDD I can take with me and keep everything
up to date.
A lot of times I go somewhere give out some DVDs or some music but I may pick
up some
and others may put some on my drives, this way no sweat just very easily sync.
This
will also do a great job on a lot of other stuff.
Thanks Chance for the recommend.

The ChronoSync application seems to be working as expected over my LAN. I would
like to see a progress bar like CCC has, maybe it has one I just need to poke
around a little.
The application has a nice way of selecting what and and where you want the
sync to take place. It has a lot of pretty cool options as to how specific you
want to get with this.

I hate MS as much as the next guy, but.
Redbox has limited selection, and would cost me $2 in gas as well as
30 minutes total driving round trip twice. So that's $3/DVD, more if I
hold it an extra day.
Netflix, I can get about 8 movies on DVD in a month, with no driving,
and can watch more on streaming to the TiVos.

Why would I want NetFlix to die?

OS X has rsync built in, RsyncX is merely a GUI shell for an old version.

rsync on the mac works perfectly well.

I've written an rsync script that backs up a specific directory to a network
volume; then I used Platypus to make it a
GUI app. Platypus is extremely useful for things like this.

Unfortunately it's on my machine somewhere at work and I can't find it right
now.

CCC *will* backup files over AFP. It simply creates a sparse disk

If your intention is to SYNCHRONIZE the files on both computers, so
each computer contains the same files and those files are equally
accessible with iTunes etc then use ChronoSync. It has an
up-to-date build of rsync in it.

Silverlight's "installation check" program, contained within the
Silverlight installation "package", checks the machine's model and
rejects PPC Macks and all Hacks.

If you remove the "installation check" program by opening the
"package" and then dragging it to the trash, Silverlight will
install, but it won't work on a PPC Mack.

It will, however, work perfectly well on most Hacks.

The early versions were tied to the E-net port, and device 0 (en0)
was expected, and required.

The more recent versions have relaxed the port requirements, and now
device 1 (en1) and AirPort (en1 or posssibly en2) will work, although
AirPort will give occasional interruptions for optimizing the turn-
around time of the link.

"Watch Instantly" works perfectly on a Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H with an
i3-530 or 540, which is a pretty cheap Hack, as Hacks go.

Gigabyte, and others, have been updating the BIOSes on their mobos to
incorporate features specifically for running MacOS X.

If the DSDT includes the AMAC variable, then it has the Hackintosh
features already installed.

If not, then these features can be retrofitted to most recent
Gigabyte mobos.

It's telling you that it doesn't like you, or it's a bad build.

Is there a better application for this. I'm doing this over my LAN.

Use CCC.

It will let you select/exclude any set of folders and copy them to
another volume, and schedule that. The help files are pretty good...

M$' add-on works well for me.

Alas, its "installation check" feature rejects all PPC Macks, and
also all Hacks.

However, that module may be deleted from the installation "package",
and the subsequent installation and operation on a Hack works very well.

I prefer the business model of Netflix, and will continue to use its
"Watch Instantly" feature until M$ does something to prevent its use
on Hacks.

I am not bloody likely to buy an Intel-based Mack just to use it for
"Watch Instantly".

Exactly.

Personally, I prefer to get my movies on DVD from my local public

don't have thru the national Inter-Library Loan (ILL) system.

To be clear on this problem a lot of times if you go to Diskwarrior as a first
fix it may tell you that the HDD is all munged up and you can't replace or
repair the directory
so if you go back and run Disk utility it will get the disk suitable for
DiskWarrior's magic plus save some scary dialogs . Plus your problem may be a
HDD getting a little wore out, they start the no shut down and stuck start up
stuff prior to a pitch. Other wise your fix will take care of this.

I ran Disk Utility (booting the machine from the OS installation CD).
It said "no repairs needed", but after running it the machine
restarted! I then ran DiskWarrior as you suggested.

Used Intel Mac Mini(s) are starting to get reasonable. It is the way
I plan to go since I no longer do high end graphics/publishing but
wish to stay up-to-date regarding an OS. BTW, my practice has been

There are many DVD players that offer this, $100-$150 if you look.
I have the MDD G4 and don't see streaming Netflix ability either.
I use the TiVo for that, or just stick with the DVDs.
