G5 fans racing
Dual 1.8 G5. When I put it to sleep, sometimes, not every time, I come home and the fans are racing and it sounds like a 747 taking off. I already reduced speed in the system prefs. Before I reduced, the fans would come on once or twice an hour, but never loud racing. Since I reduced, the fans /never/ come on except in sleep mode. I would think in sleep mode /less/ power and heat would be generated. Anyone have a theory on this? I installed a temp monitor utility, and it tells me the processors are running about 105 degrees F; the memory controller heatsink at about 118 F. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. The power manager (PMU) is not happy. By default, it cranks the fans if anything is amiss -- better to crank the fan than to let the system cook. First thing to try is to reset the PMU. If that doesn't work, replace the battery. To reset the PMU: Shutdown. Disconnect the power cord. Press the PMU Reset button (aka the CUDA) ONCE. DO NOT press it a second time as that could crash the PMU. Wait 10 seconds then connect the power cord and boot. If the problem still occurs, then shutdown, replace the battery, and reset the PMU again. Um... while you're in there with the power cord disconnected, might be a good idea to carefully vaccuum. And make sure the fans spin freely... Note that both resetting the PMU and replacing the batter will also cause the PRAM/nvram to be reset. So after booting you should set the time, re-select the startup disk, etc. HTH, - Dan. -- - Psychoceramic Emeritus; South Jersey, USA, Earth. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Re: iTunes G3 radio playlist servers?
I'm using iTunes 10.6 on my G5 running Leopard. I use it for streaming radio stations, a lot. This past week I noticed no station in my custom playlist for radio would play! Yet, when I created a new playlist and added the stations from the iTunes master list, all the stations played. At the /same/ time, the same stations would not play from the previous playlist. I thought this was absurdly strange. On Aug 11, 9:05 am, Dan dantear...@gmail.com wrote: At 8:38 AM -0500 8/11/2012, Kris Tilford wrote: I use an old G3 laptop by my bedside as a clock-radio.
