I agree with Cameron Kaiser as to DiskWarrior ...
Apple's stuff is very superficial, and DiskWarrior is the only
worthwhile disk utility I've encountered (for OSX that is --- anyone
remember LaCie's SilverLining?).

handles all the I/O.
