With the usual care and precautions PSU complete swap relatively
straightforward ( You have to remove the optical drive chassis to create
the space for withdrawal) - there are step by step illustrated guides out
there - I've swapped PSU's in my QS and QS 2002. The problem is finding

recently a 2TB drive which became unrepairable by OS X utilities it built a
read only directory which enabled me to pull off a TB of vital information
before I had to reformat the disk!

between my two quicksilvers 2002 and 2001 the problem has never
manifest itself again in either machine. Although when the 2001 power
supply is off it makes very small chirrup noises like a cricket is living
in the machine.
