Re: What is the Highest OSX a Digital Audio G4 can run?
Since your processor is well above the minimum requirements for 10.5 Leopard, no hack is needed for install. -Jonas -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. I thought 10.4.11 was the highest you could go and still run OS9. Great details in your response. Much thanks. (snip) And all that is why IMHO Leopard isn't the ideal OS on PowerPCs. It's much easier to have it “just work”, instead of to have it “make work”. Unless, “the journey is the reward.” (German: „Der Weg ist das Ziel.“) Did it a couple of times with my Familiy Edition of Leopard, but really, on an Intel/AMD-Hackintosh you'd want Snow Leopard. And I don't have a Snow Leopard license, so I won't use it. One of my Laptops that had Leopard running really fabulously (an HP) broke down after less then 1½ years. That was disillusioning. I'm not in the mood to go though a Hackintosh installation once again. And I don't know if my present hardware supports Mac OS X almost as well out-of-the-box as this HP laptop did (while it still worked). So if you still need Classic, you're stuck with 10.4. That's the one answer there is: 10.4 is the last to support classic Mac OS applications. Even if you can install 10.5 on your box, you are then limited to Mac OS X/PPC applications. No classic Mac OS (PPC, M68k) stuff will work. And, naturally, no Mac OS X/Intel-only stuff will work. 10.5 is a great OS, but on PowerPCs Tiger is IMHO the best choice. What is the Highest OSX a Digital Audio G4 can run?
I thought 10.4.11 was the most advanced OS a DA G4 can run and still use OS9 software. Lately, I'm getting the drift this isn't true. I have a 1.6ghz accelerator and 1.5Gigs of ram. It seems to run pretty good since my power surge disaster last winter. So, what is the highest OS this thing will run and still run classic stuff?
