Thanks but i think i solved it. According to apple the pram will only hold a
3-5 hour charge without being plugged in and without a main battery preset.

Maybe you just got a bad copy of 10.4. I have run 10.4 for on a G3 imac, G3
powermac, two G3 ibooks, two G4 powerbooks, two G4 powermacs and a G4 emac.
They all run perfectly. My guess is that you just got a bad 10.4 installer.
You might also want to see if you have the latest firmware version for
Tiger will run great. But leopard will run like crap. I used the leopard
assist thing on my digital audio 533MHZ. Once I started doing more than one
thing it got ow. Don't run leopard

There are some simple tests that you can perform. Get a firewire cable
and connect to another mac. Then from the other mac boot into the powerbooks
hard drive. If you still just get the grey screen than it's probably just

I have an external DVD Burner that for some reason will only read and burn
dvds connected through USB to my Powermac G4. I can play dvds from it on
other computers that have internal dvd drives, but not mine because I have
an internal CD RW drive. DVD player just says there is no supported dvd
