2001-03-23 Thread Pandora Fitzpatrick

tha am browser ur direach sgoinneal -- rach gu www.opera.com an-drasda-fhein!

WOW!
I just downloaded and installed the Opera 5 web browser -- in Gaelic!
Not only are all the menus and commands in Gaelic (you can actually choose from a
number of languages), but it comes with a pre-configured list of Favorites that
include a wide range of Gaelic websites!
This is too cool for words -- pass it on to all your friends!

Hallo Aonghais,

An e an t-Earrach ann an N.S. fhathast?
Is it Spring in N.S. yet?

'Se an t-Earrach ann an seo an dra\sda, ach is urrainn dhi gum bi sneachd
ann a rithist.
It's Spring here just now, but it is possible for it to be snowing again.

Chan 'eil fhios aig neach sam bith.
No one knows.
(Is that close?)

Thuirt mi-fhi/n 's bancharaid ri athair as Eirinn Oidhche-Haoine mu
dheireadh aig Dinnear "St. Paddy."
I and a friend spoke with a father (Catholic) from Ireland last Fri. night
at a S. P. Dinner.

Thuirt e u\rnuigh anns a' Gha\idhlig Eireannach, agus bha iongantas oirnn.
He said a prayer in Irish Gaelic and we were surprised.

Bhruidhinn sinn ris anns a' Gha\idhlig, agus bha iongantas ort cuideachd.
We spoke to him in Gaelic, and he was surprised also.

Fhuair mi an leabhar Sgeul an Latha ach tha e aig Donaidh an dra\sda. Tha
cus agam-sa ri leughadh nise co-dhiu\bh.
I got the book "Sgeul an Latha" but Donnie has it just now. I have too much
to read now anyway.

Leugh mi sgeul no dha\ mar tha, agus tha u\idh mo/r agam orra.
I read a story or two already, and I was interested in them.

Hallo Aonghais a rithist,

Chan eil an dra\sda, ach bithidh mi a' dol air ais dha 'n Cholaisde ann an
O\gmhios. Cha robh clasaichean agam 'sa Gheamradh.

Am not right-now, but will-be I going back to the College in June. Were not classes
at-me in-the winter.

Not right now, but I'll be going back to the College in June. I didn't have
classes this winter.

Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gum bhitheadh e deagh spo\rs a bhith anns a'
Cholaisde ann an O\gmhios.
I think that it would be good fun to be in the college in June.

Bu toigh leam a bhith ann, ach tha an rathad car fa\da bu toigh leam aithne a
chuir air Do\mhnall; tha e coltach gur a h-e obair mho\r a tha e a' deanamh. Am bi
mo\ran dhaoine ann?

Tha an rathad car fa\da. Tha Donaidh a' de\anamh obair mho/r sar mhath.
The road is rather long. Donnie is doing a lot of excellent work.

Chan 'eil fhios-am cia mheud duine a bhitheas ann.
I don't know how many people will be there.

Is do\cha a mha\inn bho co\ig-deug gu fichead 's a deug.
Perhaps only from 15 to 30.

We ask folks to let us know if they're going to be here so that we can make
up the materials ahead of time, but since we don't really have a
"registration" period, fees, etc., there's no push for folks to register
ahead of time. Maybe by the time we get to the 3rd or 4th one, we'll get a
bit more "formal" in that regard, but we're staying casual right now.

Ciamar a tha thu fhe/in, a Shiu\saidh?

Tha mi bro\nach fhathast 's ro sgi\th, ach tha mi a' gluasad co-dhiubh.
I'm still sad and too tired, but I'm moving anyway.

Bithidh mi a' dol ag obair a rithist Di-Luain 'sa tighinn.
I'm going to go to work again this coming Monday.

Tha mi creidsinn gu bheil na craobhan a'
briseadh amoch, no air briseadh amoch ann an California a nis. A bheil sneachda air
mullaich nam beann fhathast?

Seadh. Tha e bre\agha. Chan 'eil ach beagan sneachda ann fhathast.
Uh-huh. It's pretty. Thre is but a little snow yet.

Ti\oraidh an dra\sda.
Bye for now.
