Re: [Audyssey] earphones

2006-11-03 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello Chris.

Bluetooth is better than infrared simply because it's more secure and
the range is much greater. Also, signals of bluetooth are not line of
sight like infrared signals. Bluetooth is a little more expensive but
well worth it IMHO.

I'I have a pair of wireless Sony headphones which I am not using which
I'd be willing to sell for $20.00. Originally they were $100. I don't
have all the specs on them but they are very good, no microphone, just
headphones and they cary pretty good bass.

As far the bluetooth wireless keyboards, the Microsoft natural media
keyboards are really good. I've seen them brand new on ebay for around
$50 or $60. Retail they can go for $100.

There is a giration wireless keyboard which sells for around $200 and it
has a range of 300 or so feet and the signal can travel through walls. A
friend of mind who has one of these in combination with a radio fm
transmitter uses it to play games on his computer from the courtyard of
his apartment.

Good luck.

The ground floor of the castle is free.
For the other 13 levels of the castle, I am thinking of charging $30.

[Audyssey] earphones

2006-11-03 Thread moonsinger
Hi. I have a laptop and am trying to get some good games on it. Was
wondering what wireless headphones would work best with 3d games audioscape?
Also, would bluetooth or wireless be cheaper? Why have one over the other?
I don't have loads of cash but I'm tired of the cats messing with the cord
and I want to go portable so I can play games everywhere including bed.
Thanks,
Chris

[Audyssey] note about audyssey.org site

2006-11-03 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi. Just letting everyone know that the www.audyssey.org page has been
updated.

I changed some of the wording around and added the Magazine announce
list link to the page. The Magazine Announce list is a list which is
outgoing only. No discussions happen, so it's a very low traffic list.
This is good for those who want to get the magazine. Since the magazine
is already posted here as well I don't see a reason to be subscribed to
both. However, the magazine list is perfect for those who still want to
read the magazine when it comes out but who do not want to be a part of
the discussion list.

As time allows I'll start adding more content.

Cheers.

I think this is definitely a valid beef you have against them. It's sad,
sometimes people slip through the cracks. Perhaps they could not
respond, or perhaps they did but you never got the response, No one can

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft opinion

2006-11-03 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi Chris. This is good to hear. Unfortunately, many people have
different experiences with a company and that clouds their judgment. As
someone said before, when someone is unhappy how they were treated, the
news can easily spread. It's simple human nature to spread the bad a lot
more than the good.

As I've said before. I've not had dealings with Bavisoft so cannot
comment either way on whether their customer service is good or not.So,
everything I say is from an outsider's point of view and opinions which
I have due to experience with other companies, not all of them game
related.

I found something kind of funny, quite by accident. I don't know if anyone

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Liam Erven
As a developer, things usually go smoothly till something pops up, like with
Judgment day. I wanted it out September first, then school and personal
life came along. And the games take a back seat. The one nice thing is,
it's given me more time to go back and refine some systems in the game and
make them work better. Sometimes the delay is worth it. And sometimes it's
not.

That is why you shouldn't plan release dates and tell the public. It's just
a lot of trouble for the dev when you don't have anything to release on
time. I'm not a programmer myself, but I have listened and I know that
much. If I ever do write a game, I will not guarantee anything until I am
100% certain I can keep my promises.

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
I was simply stating a fact about what you said regarding them being
frauds. I'm not telling you what to do. In the comment I made which was,
word for word:

> If you
> don't like their customer service style then don't do business with
> them. If you feel they wait too long between titles, then get someone
> else's titles.
>

This comment was meant as figuritive "you", not you personally. You, as
in anyone reading the message. Believe me, I don't tell others who to do
business with. I'm simply saying for clerity's sake. If anyone does not
like the way a company does business, then don't do business with them.
No one forces you, us, everyone, what ever, to do business with
companies. That is all I'm saying. As for your statement regarding if I
don't do business with them then what gives me the right to say
anything? Well, it's simple. I have a choice. I choose to not do
business with them based on what I've said in other messages. Their
games have little replay value, I don't like their prices, and I don't
care for their style of games. That gives me the right.

One last note: Definition of fraud: which BTW I don't feel applies to
this company.

>From The Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48
[gcide]:

  Fraud \Fraud\ (fr[add]d), n. [F. fraude, L. fraus, fraudis;
prob. akin to Skr. dh[=u]rv to injure, dhv[.r] to cause to

 1. Deception deliberately practiced with a view to gaining an
unlawful or unfair advantage; artifice by which the right
or interest of another is injured; injurious stratagem;
deceit; trick.
[1913 Webster]

 2. (Law) An intentional perversion of truth for the purpose
of obtaining some valuable thing or promise from another.
[1913 Webster]

 3. A trap or snare. [Obs.]
[1913 Webster]

 Syn: Deception; deceit; guile; craft; wile; sham; strife;
circumvention; stratagem; trick; imposition; cheat. See
  {Deception}.
  [1913 Webster]

>From WordNet (r) 2.0 [wn]:

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Liam Erven
Because they're not frauds.
Raul very clearly defines what a fraud actually is.
Charging for services or products and not delivering is fraudulent.
However, taking three years to make a new product isn't fraudulent, it's
just well. It's kind of ridiculous.
I have not had a problem with chillingham, so have not had to write to
support.

At least they are not taking pre-orders and then not delivering. That
would be fraudulent. They just take a long time. Knowing this and the
fact their games are not attractive to me is enough for me to not buy
their games.

I don't think they are a fraud. Just because you may not agree with
their style of customer service or the frequency of new games have they
actually made themselves to be a fraud? If I went on that basis, I could
easily say that hundreds of companies are frauds. Take Microsoft for
example. I don't agree with their customer service. Take Panasonic, I
think they charge too much for some of their basic cordless
multi-station phones. But they are not frauds. This company here has not
stollen money from people. They have delivered their products. If you
don't like their customer service style then don't do business with
them. If you feel they wait too long between titles, then get someone
else's titles.

Personally, I have never purchased their games, nor delt with them, but
that is only because their games do not attract me. I felt they are like
a text adventure with sounds and menus, but that is my opinion. I have a
choice, and I choose not to do business with them, but again, they are
not frauds.

i can understand why it takes so long in the first place - i think they use
c++, which is a much more in-depth, structured language compared to vb,
which is what most developers code. but the other side is when they say they
have a target date set for september 2005 and they don't tell us what's
going on, it's a little hard for people to keep their cool for much longer.

that's just my opinion, i'm not that impatient, but i can understand both
sides.

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Bryan Peterson
Fraudship implies that they won't release the game. If they were a fraud
they wouldn't have bothered to release either Grizzly or Chillingham. I'm
trying to prove a point here. It took four years for them to release the
firstChillingham, so there's no reason why it shouldn't take another four to
release the second one. While I agree that that's riddiculous, and whileI do
agree that their lack of customer service doesn't exactly bode well for
them, let's not jump o conclusions. We've still got another two years before
we can legitimately start getting mad. Don' get me wrong, I do agree that
the long wait between titles is absolutely riddiculous considering the
overall mediocrity of their titles.

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Bryan Peterson
Well said. I was seriously considering attempting to learn programming
myself, but I'm beginning to realize that might not be an option for me. If
I don't have the patience for math I'm probably not going to have the
patience for actual programming, and I'd imagine that patience is a big
requirement in something like that. You're basically learning a foreing
language, computerese, and learning a foreign language takes time and
patience. Thtand I've never really enjoyed ath, so I have a feeling I might
not enjoy programming all that much either. granted I could be wrong, but
I'm basing this on my own experiences with Algebra. So far we aren't exactly
on the same wave length.

Hi. I've been watching the chillingham discussion and just thought
I'd share my experiences when trying to ask for support from bavisoft.
Firstly, a little background information. I have a hearing
difficulty, I use a hearing aid, I have no hearing in the right ear,
and only limited hearing in the left, but my hearing is pretty good
when I have the hearing aid in, or when I am wearing an earpiece
attached to the computer using jfw/windoweyes or playing adventure
 games
 etc.
I borrowed someone's copy of grizley gulch and tried to play it, only
to find out that I wasn't able to play it properly because it
required you to have the use of both ears. I explained this to
bavisoft, and I didn't receive one response at all. That was well
 over a year ago.
As first impressions go, it's not good business, I'm glad I didn't
fork out the dough to buy it because I wouldn't have been able to play
 it.
Sorry to come across a bit harsh. Apparently I hear it's the same
with chillingham, you need the use of both ears.

GMud works pretty good from what I'm told, and there are Jaws scripts
available I'm just not sure where. Someone else might be able to provide
that info for you. Also, MonkeyTerm works relatively well with Jaws and
there are also scripts for that available and wouldn't you know it, I can't
remember where they're located, either. Sorry for not being much help. lol

[Audyssey] Castle Quest was bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Snip
What I don't understan is why BSC couldn't siply have ditched the
3rd party people they were working with and continued on with the project
End Snip

I've talked to Justin at length about this and the bottom line is the
3rd party were pro game developers writing the engine for CQ for BSC
Games. When the 3rd party developer ended up stopping work on CQ for BSC
Games do to licensing the developer was able to keep the source code for
the CQ project. That left BSC without a project, source code, and they
basicly had nothing. To make CQ they would have to start from scratch.
As a developer myself were I in Justin's position I wouldn't start over
either. It was easier to scrap the project and start fresh with a new
one rather than continue on from ground zero and start CQ over again
from the drawing board.

[Audyssey] BSC was bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Snip
speaking of BSC any games off them for xmas i wonder?
End Snip

Not that I am aware of. Last time I talked to Justin, which was a while
ago, he was heavily involved with his day job catching up with some
pressing projects. Not sure what else, but I do know he has been
extremely busy this last few months.

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Bryan Peterson
Nope, not since Castle Quest was shelved. Now there's a game that had
potential. What I don't undertan is why BSC couldn't siply have ditched the
3rd party people they were working with and continued on with the project
themselves. I had a guy Email me about that a few months back. Quite a
depressing chap actually, always ready to assume the worst about people. His
opinion was that the "problems with the development team" that forced BSC to
shelf the game involved computer viruses and landmines and things. I seem to
remember him saying something about how he was going to write to BSC and
demand that they resume work on CQ. Needless to say I hope he took my
warning seriously, but I haven't heard from him since that last message.

2006-11-03 Thread Bryan Peterson
There's also the fact that it takes them four years to release games that,
to be quite honest, have little to no replay value even with the other
difficulty level. Even the higher difficulty setting doesn't really make for
a harder game. Only the fights get harder. Then you have BSC's titles which,
unrealistic as many of them are, actually step up the pace of things a
considerable amount from diffcuty level one to level 2 and even more on
Insane. And yes, Bavisft's prices make their titles that much more
undesirable. I understand that in our market you kinda need to charge a
litle more, but even so most of the time we're still paying less than we
would for the average mainstream game. And while GMA Games' titles are a bit
pricy they're still reasonable, particularly since they actually require you
to think. They actually challenge you. I still haven't figured out a
strategy for completing Sector Five of GMA Tank Commander even after two
years.

[Audyssey] bavisoft's lack of customer service

2006-11-03 Thread Stephen
Hi. I've been watching the chillingham discussion and just thought
I'd share my experiences when trying to ask for support from bavisoft.
Firstly, a little background information. I have a hearing
difficulty, I use a hearing aid, I have no hearing in the right ear,
and only limited hearing in the left, but my hearing is pretty good
when I have the hearing aid in, or when I am wearing an earpiece
attached to the computer using jfw/windoweyes or playing adventure games etc.
I borrowed someone's copy of grizley gulch and tried to play it, only
to find out that I wasn't able to play it properly because it
required you to have the use of both ears. I explained this to
bavisoft, and I didn't receive one response at all. That was well
over a year ago.
As first impressions go, it's not good business, I'm glad I didn't
fork out the dough to buy it because I wouldn't have been able to play it.
Sorry to come across a bit harsh. Apparently I hear it's the same
with chillingham, you need the use of both ears.
