[Audyssey] Harry Potter wombat test

2007-06-13 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
I've been wanting to take the wombat test since the first one came out and
finally J.K.Rowling has made it accessible on the ,
accessibility enabled version of her web site.
http://www.jkrowling.com/
Hints:
1. You need flash to make it work.
2. you need to hit enter on the Eraser - question mark
3. next hit enter on the fly.
4. The fly turned into a key that opened the door to the Room of
Requirements. Through it is a view of my desk from above. There is a
wombat test paper on
it under three paper weights.
a paper weight in the shape of a triangle
a paper weight in the shape of a circle
a paper weight in the shape of a line

You need to hit enter on all three paper weights.

You can now take the test but be quick because you only get 35 minutes to
finish.

 Hi all,

VipMud is a Mud client that we are currently about to alpha test. For
 those
of you who do not know what a Mud Client is, it is a communications
 program
which allows you to communicate with on-line multi-user games on the
 internet.

In the past such clients as the following were used:
 1. GMud. More or less accessible, but not usually right out of the box.
Its main weakness was that it had no scripting capabilities, and in my
opinion not too much better than a Telnet client.
 2. TinTin+ - an Unix text -based client which is an excellent program, but
it was only available for those accessing the internet through a Unix
 shell.
 3. ZMud - Another excellent program, but almost totally inaccessible.
Mush Client - A reportedly good client supported by Jaws scripts, but it
does not work right out of the box. Certainly it is not as powerful as
 TinTin+ nor ZMud.

The VipMud client that I always wanted would do the following:
 1. work right out of the box without having to download scripts or make
 many
 setup option changes.
 2. Work directly with Jaws, Window Eyes, and MS Sapi.
 3. Be able to use multiple voices concurrently, and be able to mix MS Sapi
speech with a screen reader voice. Also have different voices assigned to
different activities such as incoming text, command entry, script editing,
 system messages, and so on.
 4. The gamer should be able to play multiple characters on a single Mud or
on multiple Muds at one time, and the characters should be able to work
together using triggers, aliases, macros, and other scripting commands.
 5. Support for.Wav, .OGG, and .MP3 files. These files should be played as
background, or when an event is triggered such as when you kill a monster
 or
you sustain an injury, or to indicate low stats such as energy, mana, hit
 points, and so on.
 6. The scripting commands should be voice oriented. For example, you may
want to stop speaking spam, but you may want it still displayed on the
screen for future use. Or you don't want something displayed on the
 screen,
 but you want it spoken.
 7. Lots of accessibility aids. An example of one is let's say a character
name Xandiavier asks you a question. It is a painful and time consuming
experience to first find his name on the output screen, if your client
allows this, and then cut and copy it to your entry field. inStead you
could type: Tell X, then press control-space to complete the word with
 the
client doing the work by finding it in your recent output info, and then
finishing with how's it going? The End result is Tell Xandiavier How's
it going? Other shortcuts are needed as well, such as quickly finding a
previously entered command by typing one or more of its leading characters
and pressing, say Shift-space. Another helpful tool would allow you to
extract hard to remember place names, character names, spells, and weapons
from a built-in list of names and phrases which you maintain with just a
 simple keystroke.
 8. Be able to support powerful scripting capabilities to give you complete
control of your actions and environment.

VipMud does all of the above and much more. It is almost completely
 written
and is going into alpha testing. Beta testing will start in the summer
sometime, and it should be coming out early fall, and so stay tuned.

 David Greenwood

2007-06-13 Thread Che
Anyway, despite the handful of poo poo heads, the demo has so far been
downloaded 122 times, and I'm getting lots of positive feedback on messenger
and email.
However, most of these folks don't seem to be taking the time to read any
of the instructions or listen to the tutorial I have posted to the site, I
highly reccomend you do that, or yer gonna be hitting that first hurdle at a
very painful rate of speed, grin.
  Later taters,

  Hey Brian,
Glad you are enjoying it man.
Here is a tip for the loops, because the first part of the loop slows you
down, that is a good time to use a nitro to get up to full speed, especially
on the first lap if you haven't gotten to top speed yet by the time you get
to the loop. I would hit the nitro right as you enter the loop, that way
instead of slowing down you will actually accelerate, just be sure and shift
up as your RPM's max out.
As for the curves, that is probably the hardest part to get nailed down
with Rail Racer, and I still scrape some myself, though I find it much
easier using the mouse.
  Enjoy.

Re: [Audyssey] Rail racer tips

2007-06-13 Thread Che
To check your speed, hit the s key. Depending on what your gear ratio is,
you should be around 280 MPH or so for top speed.
Regarding gear ratios, I reccomend you use the highest gear ratio as this
track is pretty loose so you don't have to worry much about downshifting,
unlike the bonus track.
Also, once you start getting the curves down, I reccomend you drop the
wing angle to 2 degrees for top speed.
  Good luck,
  Che

Hi,
This can happen occasionally if you start the game with your screen reader
running. If you are starting the game with a screen reader, try launching it
once without it loaded.

 Hi,
Anyone had a problem where gameEngine.exe pops up an error box that just
says GameEngine.exe has encountered an error and needs to close.

I have DirectX 9.0C and .net 2.0 so those aren't the problem.

Hi,
I to am looking forward to getting this game. This is one of the few I

I can't wait to do live races against others. Top Speed does this, but

Well, I've managed to beat the demo track up to the Catch me if you Can
difficulty, thanks to a few Nitros and a couple upgrades. I'm working at
getting that other track, but we'll see how this works out. Cool game so
far. Che, do you plan to develop more games after Rail Racer's firmly out

To check your speed, hit the s key. Depending on what your gear ratio
 is,
you should be around 280 MPH or so for top speed.
  Good luck,
  Che

I actually seem to reach top speed long before the first loop if the sound
of the engine is any indication. So are you suggesting right when I hear
 the
Loop indicator I use the Nitro? Or right whenI start to decellerate? Oh
well, guess I'll just keep tryng. Haven't managed to win the first track
 yet
but then I'm still getting the hang of it.

Yup, I have one that will be out fairly shortly to help pay for my
dedicated server, which at $120 a month takes a bite out of the budget, but
is absolutely necessary for multi player games like Rail Racer.
After that I am going to start work on an online RPG in the vein of

gamers we've gone long enough without this experience, eh?
I think all of my future games will include online play, it is just way

No of course not. As I said to all that purchased the beta, you will
receive a free upgrade to the full release when it comes out.
I will be doing a similar thing when I start development on the online
RPG, as it worked out very well for Rail Racer, you tend to get more
dedicated beta testers when they have a few bucks invested in the game it
seems.
  Later,
 Che

I don't want to say just yet, as I have to make sure the server
 can handle
it as well as Rail Racer.
I'll know in a couple of weeks though.
It is nothing like Rail Racer though, a far more simple game for
 sure.
The list will be the first to know about it though, you guys are
 all my
 little Smurf buddies after all.

What is the one that will be out soon, if you can say? Thanks.

Che, do you plan to develop more games after Rail Racer's firmly

Yup, I have one that will be out fairly shortly to help pay for my
dedicated server, which at $120 a month takes a bite out of the
 budget,
 but
is absolutely necessary for multi player games like Rail Racer.
After that I am going to start work on an online RPG in the
 vein of
Warcraft, but tied more closely to the D and D system. I think
 as blind
gamers we've gone long enough without this experience, eh?
I think all of my future games will include online play, it is
 just way
more fun to play against humans than the cold computer.
  Stay tuned...
