This hasn't always been the case of course. Back in the earlier versions of

The only slight irritation is that for some odd reason Dolphins' stopped

which I found rather odd. Luckily orphius' more human voices are offered

I have heard a rumour that the company who make orphius split from dolphin and

Hi Hayden,
I guess it would largely depend on what you started with, and learned
to like first. I myself began using Dos screen readers in the early
90's and at the time the Dectalk PC and Dectalk Express hardware
synths were the best around. They were the most human sounding you
could get on the market, and I fell in love with the Dectalk line of
products at that point. When Jaws 3.2 or 3.3 began shipping with
Eloquence I totally dispised the synth from day one. Oh, I can use it,
but I hate the voice with a passion.
However, I've noticed those users who started with Jaws for Windows
and Eloquence from the start say Eloquence is great and hate Dectalk.
Their opinion is as much a mystery to me as I'm sure my opinion is to
them. However, I think it boils down to the fact I started with
Dectalk and liked it, and Eloquence never lived upto my expectations.
Those who started with Eloquence have their own gripes and complaints
about Dectalk. All I can say is different strokes for different folks.

well eloquence is the blindness shipping product that goes in everything.
win eyes, k1000, and even hal now though some like k1000 and gw did have
dectalk synths.
eloquence is ok for a synth but all the small issues it had in the past.
Its also quite robotic and crappy, though as a fast responce synth its good
for what it needs to be which is probably why its everywhere.
At 07:13 a.m. 22/04/2010, you wrote:
Hi,
No, it is just simply the fact ever since shipping Eloquence with Jaws
they automatically assume that is what all of their customers will use
or want to use. Plus for them to purchase the Phonix Dectalk 5 SDK and
then write a Jaws driver for it would cost them money, and they don't
want to do it. So they suggested Eloquence instead. Which, like I said,
totally missed my point I don't very much like Eloquence and want the
speed and reliability of Dectalk.
Window-Eyes on the other hand ships with the Dectalk software out of
the box, and one very huge reason I switched over to them around the
4.0 days. I've always been a fan of the Dectalk products, and when
Window Eyes made it the default synth I switched. I only keep Jaws
around for odd jobs and things where Window-eyes support could be a
little better. Otherwise I have no need of the shark.

[Audyssey] ot, maybe? sound card issue

2010-04-22 Thread peter Mahach
why I am unsure if this is off-topic is because this is gaming related... more
or less.
after I tried the tdv version that would change your sound card settings to
surround sound, I didn't notice it at first. actually, I did benefit from it in
techno shock, but then I decided to try other tings, like top speed 2. I was
making a new car and it immediately crashed when I tried turning. Seeing I
haven't made a car for quite a while my initial thought was too high steering,
but then I notice I had totaly 0 panning. teh darn thing was in mono. and sadly
it doesn't end there, other games started to have this issue. Most notably
jim's hommer on a harley and mach1tts, though other games weren't effected,
like judgment day.
My problem is I'm not sure how to change it back to stereo. I tried going to
settings\contropl panel\soundsaudio\3rd tab\the advanced/properties button
after the combo with all my soundcards, but the combo box there was set to
desktop stereo speakers.
I tried seeing if I'd find anything in DXDiag about it but no luck, and I can't
restore my system because who ever was installing this omitted all
accessibility options that are built-in, and system restore as well.
Am I looking in the wrong place?

   Hi,
First of all, can you please make your subjects more meaningful? I
almost didn't read this message and therefore wouldn't have been able to
answer your question.

No. There's only dialog at the beginning, if you play the game you will
know that. There are little bits when you blow up the mine control
center etc etc, but there's only really dialog in the beginning.

Onto your next question... I have never beaten the game, but as far as I
know, you need to get the master key, obtain the weapons, blow up the
mine control center, and then shut down the experiment. As to how to
shut down the experiment, I have no idea how to do that.

[Audyssey] An interesting interpretation of some Final Fantasy game music

2010-04-22 Thread Scott Chesworth
Hi folks,

I must confess to not being overly familiar with the original, but if
this is anything to go on then I really need to become so. This is a
link to a metal interpretation of a peace from Final Fantasy 7 called
Bombfare, originally composed by a chap called Nobuo Uematsu so I'm
told.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/ar8f9p

Knowing this guy's typical work rate, this would've taken him less
than a day to track... envy isn't even the word... incredible
musician.

Does anyone know of anything else that's been done along these lines?
A mate of mine has been to a gig that was entirely game music being
played live with a massive string section... apparently some of the
Zelda material in particular was superbly done, although there is the
slight disclaimer that she's virging on zeldaholic status lol.

Cheers
Scott

Re: [Audyssey] question

2010-04-22 Thread Hayden Presley
Hi,
Actually, the process to shut down the experiment is clearly noted in the
documentation. I have dicected the game into it's individual missions. They
are:
1. Obtain the master key.
2. Go to the weaponary, and retrieve the weapons there. The only necessary
one is the Remote Controled Missile Launcher.
3. Make it to the panel room and type in the correct code to gain
authorization to the chest.
4. Blow up the mine control center.
5. Swim to the chest and obtain the key to the vault.
6. Swim to the vault, and obtain the authorization card.
7. Insert the card into the panel to shut down the cloaning machine.
8. Once the machine is deactivated, blow up the machine.
9. Destroy Brutus's experiment.
HTH!
Hayden

Hi,
First of all, can you please make your subjects more meaningful? I
almost didn't read this message and therefore wouldn't have been able to
answer your question.

Hi,
It's better than many I've tried, some of the intonations are similar to
actual English speech; I've never figured out why people like Dektalk, I
utterly loath it.
Best Regards,
Hayden

well eloquence is the blindness shipping product that goes in everything.
win eyes, k1000, and even hal now though some like k1000 and gw did have
dectalk synths.
eloquence is ok for a synth but all the small issues it had in the past.
Its also quite robotic and crappy, though as a fast responce synth its good
for what it needs to be which is probably why its everywhere.

Hi,
No, it is just simply the fact ever since shipping Eloquence with Jaws
they automatically assume that is what all of their customers will use
or want to use.

Well played as usual sir.

I Scott Chesworth, being of sound mind, do hereby declare this to be
my vote for hearing a vocal version. Move over Hayley Williams,
Yohandy needs that mic for the next 3 and a half minutes.

Let's get some good old peer pressure going here people, lol.
