[Audyssey] one more swamp question

2012-04-08 Thread steve cullen
Hi Everyone,

Thank you to the people who have answered my questions thus far.

My new question is how do I get back to the safe zone when I'm out in the
field. Are there any key commands that I can hit to get me back to the safe
zone?

Thank you all very much.

Regards,

Steve Cullen

[Audyssey] Swamp fan-fiction competition.

2012-04-08 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
As a way to have fun, be creative, and help expand the Swamp experience, it is
my pleasure to host a Swamp fan-fiction competition. Participants are asked to
write up a short story, diary, or piece of writing that lets us follow your
character and get a feel of what life is like for them. You can use your own
character or make up some new person just for the sake of your writing.
Participants will have 2 weeks to complete their stories and at the end I’ll
put them all together for people to vote on. The prize will be having a
building named after you in Swamp! There is no minimum or maximum length
requirement for the stories but I do recommend that people take the time to
spell check their work. This just makes it more professional for everyone to
read. The stories can be emailed to me, posted online, or even posted here
somewhere, but I must be given the link to the story before the end of the day
on April 22nd. If you wish to post it publicly
to get feedback and ideas from other people that is totally fine. When the
deadline is reached I will make a copy of each story and place it on my own
website so that it can no longer be changed. You can continue to modify or
work on your story but people will be asked to vote on the unchanging copy that
I will have on my site. Instead of being asked to vote for only 1 story,
voters will be allowed to give a score for each story that is turned in.
Voters will have 1 week to read the stories, and I will announce the winner at
the end.

To write your stories, authors might find that they need a bit more back story
than the game currently provides. The zombie condition is viral and is
transmits through bites. Because the origins of the virus have not been
revealed in the game, I strongly recommend that you don’t write about the
outbreak’s beginning or trying to write an explanation about how it all
started. While not specifically stated in the game, the assumption is that
people being killed later rise as new zombies. The various zombie types are
the result of time passing. It hasn’t been explained in the game yet, so I
discourage people from going too much in to this either, but as time passes the
virus mutates and changes the zombie corpses. The normal zombies represent
people who have only recently risen as zombies, and ones like the giant and
tyrant have been zombies for much longer.

Before writing you should check the story in both safe zones and also check
both outposts. This will ensure that you have the most up to date idea of the
current game story. Often time rumors that show up in the forums don’t
actually match the story as written in the game. For example I’ve heard many
people who think the zombie infection broke out here in your town but the in
game story explains that the major cities were hit first and caused millions of
people to die. When the zombies couldn’t find anyone else to eat in the
overrun cities, huge swarms branched out in all directions and began sweeping
through the suburbs, country side, and smaller towns. Your town was one of the
places in the path of this undead wave.

I think telling your story as a log from your person’s perspective would be
pretty cool. Of course it could be told from a narrator’s perspective or any
other way you think would be interesting. You actually have several choices
about how your character fits in to the situation. The town knew the undead
were coming and the army tried to set up blockades to hold them back. The
second map’s safe zone is actually a failed military barricade. Check the
in-game story for more details, but the army failed and the lines broke. Most
soldiers died but others scattered around the town among the survivors. You
could be a surviving soldier, one of the town’s police officers, or a regular
citizen who armed himself. I think the stories will be more special if
everyone isn’t the most heroic soldier in the army. Sometimes you care more
when you’re living out the experiences of the bowling alley employee who armed
himself and has worked to keep his 2
 kids and wife alive.

The zombie struggle is certainly the most obvious theme, but thirst,
starvation, cold, and human interaction can play huge roles. If you’ve paid
attention to the mission descriptions you may have figured out that the people
in the safe zone are at the verge of starvation. These are desperate people
trying to survive with very little. When the zombies were coming the stores
were looted and many people tried to flee the town, so even when men and women
risk the undead to search, they can barely find anything. Things are literally
so bad that dog food is being eaten to keep people alive. While also not
specifically stated in the game, each safe zone is holding approximately 30 or
40 people packed uncomfortably together. With distraught people that have seen
horrors and lost family, cold and uncomfortable people sharing

[Audyssey] obsessive compulsive bug report

2012-04-08 Thread QuentinC

Hello,
This is a message for Aprone. Sorry, I haven't any direct e-mail address.

I have found a bug in obsessive compulsive !

1. Played sorting game and completed it until end
2. Started comparison game, but escaped before end
3. Played grouping game until the end
4. But when I finished the grouping game, it reported that my score of
comparison game was X. After that, by consulting menus, the highscore
has actually been stored for comparison game instead of grouping game.

Re: [Audyssey] obsessive compulsive bug report

2012-04-08 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
Yeah, I didn't do a good job of bug testing right at the end and I wound up
with a silly typo in the scores. By the time it was brought to my attention
the deadline was already reached so I'm not allowed to change my code to fix
it. After the voting ends for the competition I'll quickly fix the bug and
post it again.

Actually since everyone has my source code for the game, you could always fix
it yourself if you're feeling adventurous and want the scores to be correct.
There are 3 places where this line appears:
if (temp  0) score2 = temp;
The first place it shows up is supposed to say score1 not score2. The second
time this line shows up is correct. The 3rd time this line shows up it is
supposed to say score3 instead of score2. I had just used copy and paste on
this line but forgot to change those numbers.

If you fix the bugs yourself, remember that when you vote you must vote based
on the bugged version I myself submitted.

Good question. Actually it doesn't matter much but we do have a few clues. In
the second map you can hear sprinklers and the fountain running at the hospital
so it can't quite be too cold for those, but we also learned from quests that
blankets are needed because many of the people are far too cold at night. So I
think it gives us a general temperature range.

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp fan-fiction competition.

2012-04-08 Thread Kai

Greetings Jeremy et al.

I actually envision the sprinklers and fountains as being left on in the
heat of escape and have just continued to spout out water. Since these
devices pipe water from large mains, they could in theory go on
indefinitely, so they probably shouldn't be taken as a guideline for
seasonal timing in Swamp. Furthermore, the current lack of environmental
queues gives us much more freedom, since there's nothing suggestive of a
particular weather pattern.

I think it's best to write the story irrespective of seasonal limitations.
Remember that everyone's going to be existing differently in the swamp
timeline, so it should be ok for someone to write their story in winter,
while another writes a summer-themed one. We may all play at the same time,
but in the scheme of a character's bio, such gameplay isn't as important.

Re: [Audyssey] new Swamp question

2012-04-08 Thread Christopher Bartlett
To clarify, yes, hitting escape in the safe zone will save from sessions to
session, including equipment. However the exception is that death clears
your save. While you keep you reputation and experience, you lose all of
your equipment and are returned to the start configuration of a pistol and a
med kit. There is no way to avoid this consequence of death.

Beginning in February Philip Bennefall started a BGT competition. It

third game is one is a snowball fight type game. You can find Play Mania

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp fan-fiction competition.

2012-04-08 Thread Orin
Swamp should, I believe, have some point have a single player campaign mode
where we can actually play through a story like most FPS's have now.

As a way to have fun, be creative, and help expand the Swamp experience, it
is my pleasure to host a Swamp fan-fiction competition. Participants are
asked to write up a short story, diary, or piece of writing that lets us
follow your character and get a feel of what life is like for them. You can
use your own character or make up some new person just for the sake of your
writing. Participants will have 2 weeks to complete their stories and at the
end I’ll put them all together for people to vote on. The prize will be
having a building named after you in Swamp! There is no minimum or maximum
length requirement for the stories but I do recommend that people take the
time to spell check their work. This just makes it more professional for
everyone to read. The stories can be emailed to me, posted online, or even
posted here somewhere, but I must be given the link to the story before the
end of the day on April 22nd. If you wish to post it publicly
to get feedback and ideas from other people that is totally fine. When the
deadline is reached I will make a copy of each story and place it on my own
website so that it can no longer be changed. You can continue to modify or
work on your story but people will be asked to vote on the unchanging copy
that I will have on my site. Instead of being asked to vote for only 1
story, voters will be allowed to give a score for each story that is turned
in. Voters will have 1 week to read the stories, and I will announce the
 winner at the end.

To write your stories, authors might find that they need a bit more back
story than the game currently provides.
It hasn’t been explained in the game yet, so I
discourage people from going too much in to this either, but as time passes
the virus mutates and changes the zombie corpses. The normal zombies
represent people who have only recently risen as zombies, and ones like the
giant and tyrant have been zombies for much longer.

Before writing you should check the story in both safe zones and also check
both outposts. This will ensure that you have the most up to date idea of
the current game story. Often time rumors that show up in the forums don’t
actually match the story as written in the game. For example I’ve heard many
people who think the zombie infection broke out here in your town but the in
game story explains that the major cities were hit first and caused millions
of people to die. When the zombies couldn’t find anyone else to eat in the
overrun cities, huge swarms branched out in all directions and began sweeping
through the suburbs, country side, and smaller towns. Your town was one of
the places in the path of this undead wave.

Most soldiers died but others scattered around the town among the survivors.
You could be a surviving soldier, one of the town’s police officers, or a
regular citizen who armed himself. I think the stories will be more special
if everyone isn’t the most heroic soldier in the army. Sometimes you care
more when you’re living out the experiences of the bowling alley employee who
armed himself and has worked to keep his 2
 kids and wife alive.

The zombie struggle is certainly the most obvious theme, but thirst,
starvation, cold, and human interaction can play huge roles. If you’ve paid
attention to the mission descriptions you may have figured out that the
people in the safe zone are at the verge of starvation. These are desperate
people trying to survive with very little. When the zombies were coming the
stores were looted and many people tried to flee the town, so even when men
and women risk the undead to search, they

2012-04-08 Thread Michael Taboada

Hi,
If you wanted to, you could bundle the vb runtime libraries, along with
perhaps the direct x libraries for vb6 with your game, kind of like
Kitchensinc games and (I think?) GMA Games does. This is all up to you
though, if you wanted to, you could simply tell people that if they don't
have it they should download the libraries, or indeed install the winkit for
kitchensinc games -- although bundling it with your games would be less work
for the player.

Hi,

Here is something i posted a few days ago.

It sounds like you would benefit from hearing a couple of walk thru's. If
you want them, just download from the followng links:

harp's Swamp Demo.mp3
done on the full release of version 1.9

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/harp%27s%20Swamp%20Demo.mp3

Drew's tutorial.mp3
Done on an early version of 1.9 test

steady the butcher.mp3
steady on an axing rampage. Done on version 1.8 or earlier

Valiant's swamp playthrough.mp3
playthrough of swamp by vallient. done on version 1.1

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/Valiant%27s%20swamp%20playthrough.mp3

Even though some of these walk thru's were done on earlier versions, they
give some good advice that still works on the latest version.

Otherwise, stay in the safe zone and test out your keys before venturing
outside.

but if you must, the doorway is between 40 and 46. Make your second number
one of those and you should be able to walk right out. Also, there is carpet
leading from the defensive and storage rooms to the main hallway leading
out. just find that and walk on it.

Note, the doorway of the safe zone is wider than all others.

One other way to find the doorway of the safe zone is to use your beacon.
Press shift 1 to turn it on, and pres the same keys again to turn it off.

Be sure to read the readme.txt, and changelog.txt files before venturing
outside. You could also take a look at the keyconfig.ini file and note what
all the keys are, and what they do. There you can also make any changes to
the keys to make it more your style. Just be sure not to erase or move any
of the main lines as it will then not work properly.

Always glad to help newbees on the game. Look me up or contact off list.

[Audyssey] Swamp version 2.0

2012-04-08 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
Swamp 2.0 has just been posted. If you already had version 1.9 and would like
to avoid the hefty 171 MB download then you can simply download this small
patch that will update Swamp 1.9 to Swamp 2.0 for less than 9 MB.
www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/SwampPatch.zip

If you don't already have version 1.9 then you'll need to download from this
link.
www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/Swamp.zip

Changes from version 1.9b to 2.0
-

- Added the date to the mission log.
- Added several security features that will make it easier for me to spot
people trying to cheat. For anyone who is thinking about trying it, remember
that if I catch you then you'll be permanently banned.
- Removed the map testing feature.
- Added a custom map option which allows players to practice on maps offline
and even play custom maps created by other Swamp fans.
- Added a new system of secondary armor.
- Added personal injuries to the game which can be healed by another player
using a med kit on you.
- When suffering from a Sprained ankle your movement speed is greatly reduced
and health will drain from you if you continue to walk on the foot. You cannot
actually die from the ankle pain.
- When suffering from a Broken leg your movement speed is greatly reduced and
health will drain from you if you continue to walk on the leg. You cannot
actually die from the leg pain.
- Added in a few new specialty items.
- Adjusted how loot groups in map 2 so that it more closely resembles the way
it groups in map 1. People didn't seem to like the differences between the
maps in that regard.
- Performance should be a bit better now. I've torn out and recoded some of
the core engine code that wasn't running very efficiently.
- For players using the high contrast graphics, names have been added to make
it easier to identify people. I would have done this sooner but I didn't want
to add it until I had an equivalent feature in audio. Oh well, I'm still
working on the audio version.
- You can now donate Diesel fuel in the safe zone if you wish to do so.
- Fuel for the chainsaw has been renamed Gas to cut down on the confusion
between Fuel and Diesel fuel.
- I've repaired a few stability issues and improved how the server tracks
player activity.
- I believe I've fixed the bug where you could lose an item or two when your
mission starts.

And I get a 404, and the link on audiogames.net
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=7577

So wondered if any one had a link to a good zip
file. Thanks So Much! Sly
