[Audyssey] Kitchensinc games
Hi Kimberly, I have been told that Windows 7 64 bit has 2 program files folders. One is just program files and the other is something like program files x86. So my game of life and the game menu go into one and the rest of my games go into the other. So find the other folder and copy all of those files into the folder with the game of life and the gamemenu.exe file. Sorry that my games do not install properly for Windows 7 64 bit like they did for XP etc. Have a good Thanks giving dinner. The point I was trying to make under recording devices when I show all recording devices there is no Wav Out Mix, Stereo Mix, or anything like it. The only recording devices I have is microphone and line-in. So it simply does not exist on any of my machines, and I've tried to show the Stereo Mix device on five different Windows 7 machines so it doesn't look like it is available on most Windows 7 computers. My guess is it is only available on certain sound cards or with certain sound card drivers. What kind of sound cards do you have in your computers? Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Its here! my Infocom archive for you all
5 Hi Dark, Well, I don't know. I'm not really all that impressed with touchscreen interfaces which is probably why Windows 8 is such a major turn off for me. I realize why Microsoft introduced the new Start Screen putting everything on the screen for a sighted user just to point to an icon and double tap it to activate. That's all well and good if you like touchscreen user interfaces, but I personally don't. I'd prefer a normal user interface with standard popup menus, toolbars, and menubars, than the ribbons, tialed context screens, and all the other user interface changes in Windows 8. That is why I plan to stick with Windows 7 for a while as its new, and I actually like the changes to the Start Menu etc. Cheers! [Audyssey] Seeking More Voice Volunteers for Swamp
Salutations. Lately I've been hearing that people really want to record more voices for Swamp. To that end, I have (with Aprone's approval) reopened voice submissions. The acceptance window begins now, and continue till December 31st, 2012. If you've never had your voice in Swamp and would like to be a part of this epic game, or if you're unhappy with your current recording, now is your chance to either become a part of Swamp, or to improve your current offering. Criteria for qualification will be just as strict as before, and while I do not intend any offense upon rejecting a submission, I will not hesitate to deny entries which do not meet the below guidelines. if you'd rather have these guidelines presented in an audio form, with vocal examples for each entry, this podcast from harp will hopefully be of use to you. http://www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/kai/Swamp_Voice_Submission_Guide.mp3 1. I fully realize that few of us are good actors (I myself am a prime example of a lackluster actor), but please do your best to act the part of your character. If you're recording a line requesting a medic to heal you, don't ask for such assistance in a bland, monotone voice. You're experiencing some degree of stress and panic as a result of being injured. do your best to convey this emotional and physical trauma in your characterization. 2. Use the best possible microphone you can obtain for your submission. A good USB headset will suffice, but if at all possible, try and do your recording on a higher quality USB microphone, or indeed a low-end dynamic microphone with an XLR to USB adapter would do nicely. The better your recording, the better you're going to sound in the game. 3. Do some audio testing before you submit your final results. If you notice distortion or clipping in the file, or if there are unwanted artifacts (such as the microphone picking up excessive breaths and plosives), do your best to rectify these situations before recording, as they could contribute to the lacking quality of a submission, and thus may necessitate a rejection (depending upon the severity). 4. Record your entry in as quiet of an environment as possible. Don't record it outside where there will inevitably be intrusive noises. Try and reserve your performance for a quiet, reflection-free area. Most rooms will possess some degree of reflection, but the lower, the better, else you'll end up with a voice that has unwanted reverberant artifacts. 5. Please include roughly 5 to 10 seconds of recorded silence. This means start the recording process with your microphone on, but say nothing, do nothing. You want this silence window to be as clean as possible, as i will be using the cleanest portion of this particular section to aid in noise reduction. 6. Record your entire performance into one single, unedited file. No need to worry about mistakes and random chatter and banter in between phrases. I will be going through these files and chopping them apart, and in the process eliminating any detritus. No one else will ever see your original file, so worry not that you'll embarrass yourself with spurious material. I've had to reject several entries from the previous offerings because they insisted on sending me separated files. I require one single take, so that I can get a reliable capture of your ambient surroundings, using such data to perform noise reduction. 7. For each phrase category, record at least three versions of an appropriate phrase. The more you're willing to put in, the more material I'll have to select from, and thus the higher your chances of having a superior voice in Swamp. 8. Do your best not to have microphone handling, keyboard handling, or other jarring noises directly overlap your phrases. Microphones are sensitive, and they will pick up these obstructions. Furthermore, such sounds are very hard to edit, and if I have to select a poorer performance due to unwanted noises ruining a better performance, I will. If you're reading the lines and then doing your performance, pause between finishing reading with your screen reader or medium of choice to make sure all mechanical devices (keyboards, headsets, etc) have come to a full rest, then start performing. 9. If you're recording a foreign language voice, you will need to preempt each category with its English name. therefore, if you're recording a set of phrases for the greeting category, you'd say Greeting, pause, then start your performance. I do not speak every language there is, and thus require such prompts when I'm editing so as to determine where a category starts and ends. 10. Verify that you've recorded a phrase for each category! A lot of people in the last session tended to either skip one category, or to skip recording their character names. The absence of even one category is grounds for rejection, unless I am by some miracle able to salvage the offering by using data from

Hi Brent. Have you yet got FSX and IYP up and running yet? If you're in the states, I can call you back and walk you through a few things for your first flight. The demo for IYP only lasts for two weeks and there are some slight restrictsion for the demo mode that goes away once you've purchased your unlock code. Let me know how I can help out. Hi there. I had heard of the idea that blind people were experimenting with Microsoft Flight Simulator, through people I became friends with on muds like Galaxyweb. If I recall correctly, FSNavigator was the only thing around, and the developer may have shut down the project near the second demonstration's posting on Blindcooltech, making it impossible to purchase it to get in to this hobby myself. Recently, something triggered me to search Google to see if anything more modern was around or if this hobby was still restricted to the FSNavigator license holders that got in before the shutdown, and I found the site for Itsyourplane. One of the forum posts gave me a link to some audio demos, but most seem to be with FS 2002 or 2004. I understand FSX, which is the version sold now can work with the IYP add on, but will I be able to work with it in JFW? Also, how are those that are using it getting the Microsoft Speech Recognition system trained so that IYP will work good? I still have XP yet, so can't use System Access's vista features to go through the training during the 7-day trial and then running the simulator with Jaws once I have a speech profile. Before I end up putting a bunch of money down on IYP and FSX for my machine, can I get the training of the speech recognition done with no sighted assistance? Thanks. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Its here! my Infocom archive for you all
Fair enough tom. i must admit I'm the other way around. windows 7 with it's lets chuck everyting at the screen approach i find just plane annoying. On the iphone however, an interface which would be less than fun to navigate with standard screen reader controls changes very much when it's a touch screen. For me, it's sort of a similar mentality to reading or scanning stuff in braille, just much quicker, and I like the fact that I can for instance just tap physical areas of the screen to get info, which also ties in far better with my remaining site than having to do everything with a screen reader, sinse if I know! the menue button is on the right of the white bar I can tap that. Thus, if I must upgrade and can't stick with xp, I'll probably wait for a touch screen pc interface. beware the grue! hmmm. well you may have issues with soundmax they only released drivers for oem use at least I have never needed to upgrade soundmax boards and assume that since all the newer units don't use them any longer that they don't exist. but look anyway. Realtech does have a driver but its really old, fully supports windows 8 but old about june of this year. Its also suggested at least for the realtech cards to get the 3d fx beta as this will restore some 3d stuff that used to be in older oses but I have never needed to try that as I am myself still using an old os and even if I do get games on a new system I may just use an old os as a vm so it won't matter. So this could be a driver issue in that Microsoft does not add the stereo mix device driver to their generic drivers and I need to go to Real Tech, Sound Max, etc for drivers that have the stereo mix device drivers in them. Of course, my Toshiba came with Windows 7 64-bit preinstalled on it, and it has all the third-party sound card drivers installed and still no stereo mix.
