Even though I am not a BGT user myself, I already know this update is
going to have a huge impact on the community! I wasn't around before the
days of BGT, but I see how it is twisted and woven in to almost every
thread and game discussion. All by its self, I believe BGT has won you a
permanent legacy in the audio game community Philip, and I have yet to see
anything that compares to it in terms of overall community long-term
impact. As cheesy as it may sound, creating something with the same level
of importance is what I'm striving for myself. I am absolutely positive I
have not come close yet, but I will stick around until I do.

Mr. Bennefall, keep up the great work and prepare yourself for probably a
hundred ecstatic responses to the news of your new release. :D And keep
the bar really high so I have to climb a while before getting up there
with you sir.

Hi all!

After nearly a year in development, version 1.1 of the BGT
engine is now available for download! It features the
largest set of changes yet in its release history, most of
which are features requested by end users. It includes mouse
support, screen reader support, a pathfinder to make it
easier when adding artificial intelligence to your game,
improved Sapi support where you are now able to enumerate
and change voices, and tons more. The change log is a bit
too long to paste in an email to the list, so I invite those
who are curious to go grab the new installer and have a
look!

Thanks to all of those who provided suggestions and ideas,
bug reports and other general feedback over these two years.
Without all of this, the BGT engine would not be what it is
today. Thank you!

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Hi all.
This sounds like something similar that happened to me a while back.
WHen I first started developing games, they were simple games to play. Some
people said I had no talent.
It got me down for a couple of months, but I recovered from that. It sounds
like the same thing here.
I'm still developing games, even some simple ones, but I'm building up to
complex ones as I continue to grow in programming skills.
I'm not sure if this is Damien's first or second game in vb, so I know what
he's going through at the moment.
That's just my 2 cents on the matter. I hope Damien keeps on making games

 Hi Bryan,
If you want to really get to know Python I suggest signing up for a
 Safari Books subscription at
 http://safari.oreilly.com
 and reading the book
 Python In A Nutshell
which walks you step by sstep through the language and how to use the
 Python tools.
As for building a Windows application, (win32 *.exe file,) you need to
run a program called py2exe on your Python source code. It will compile
your Python source code into a standard Win32 application.
As far as formatting goes the basic rule of thumb is this. Function
definition lines are not indented. New statement blocks like an if or
try is indented 4 spaces and any statements inside those if or try
statements is indented 8 spaces. Here is an example with comments
included so you can see what I am doing below. If you don't have
punctuation set to full on your screen reader now would be a good time
 to set it to full.

 #Function definition line.
 #This is never indented.
 def KillEnemy(enemy)

#Begin an if statement.
#Will be indented 4 spaces in from the left.
if enemy == 1:
#Statement line.
#Will be indented 8 spaces from the left.
enemy1.Killed(True)
#End if comment.
#Is here just to tell the developer
#that we have ended an if statement.
#Is indented 4 spaces to be in
#line with the if statement above.
#Press enter twice to
#begin a new function definition.

As you can see above I have included lots of comments using the # sign
to mark off text that instructs you how to format the function above. Of
course a seasoned developer probably wouldn't add so many comments in a
real Python application, but that is the jist of formatting a Python
script. Important notes to remember here is that you need to add 2 new
line characters after the end of one function and the beginning of a new
one or Python will assume they are both apart of the same function. I
always like to put a comment after each statement block such as
 #End if
 #End function
 #End try
and so on so that I can easily come back and see where one function or
block of ends and where a new one begins. This is optional of course,
but as a new Python developer I think you will need them very much.
 Cheers.

Thanks Robbin for that info. about the url.
THere are 2 reasons why I'm switching from autoit to python.
One, they're cnanging a lot of the functions I'm used to using in the next
update, and 2 everyone I sent autoit programs 2 or has used any software
made in autoit that uses avg says that avg deletes all of the files to do
with that autoit program.
Also, I can make cross platform games from windows to lynux and mac as well
if I learn python.
Yay!
I'll still probably play with autoit, but use python as my primary

 Hi Sean,

 Quote
You said it was difficult to make sound libraries with XACT; does that
mean that you were able to make the necessary wavebanks, soundbanks and
cues? If so, would you mind explaining how?
 End quote

Yes, but I will state up front I was using Window Eyes 6.1 when I was
working on the soundbanks, wavebanks, and cues. Window Eyes handles the
mouse allot better than Jaws so I was able to point and click on most of
the propper tool bars, buttons, and list views that were necessary to
create the cues, soundbanks, and wavebanks. What I am having difficulty
with now is actually setting specific properties on cues in XACT. Unlike
with DirectX where you just programmed a looping sound, volume, or 3D
effect manually XNA requires all of the sound cues to be set via the
XACT properties window which is not screen reader friendly with Jaws or
Window Eyes. I suppose you could get by the looping property by writing
an update sound method for all the sounds you want to loop, but if you
want full 3D effects you are screwed. There is no way I can see to edit
the 3D properties for the cues to get them to update properly in the
 game world.

 Hth.

 Hi all,

Just wondering, from this dark forest, where do I go? I thought there was
training or some such involved, trying to figure out how to progress and how
to move, I thought moving was similar to mudding...

Re: [Audyssey] the blind eye

2007-10-31 Thread Bryan Mckinnish
Hi.
The only thing I hate about that game is the place where the restarant is.
That place where you go between these 2 buildings and it sounds like you're
walking on rocks. Sometimes I get trapped there and can't find my way out. I
love the 3d effect of the sounds.

 Hi,
When you're in the street, you hear the cars close to you, and the sound
of
your footsteps isn't as loud as when you're close to a wall.
 HTH,
 Susanne

[Audyssey] question about maps in sound rts

2007-10-30 Thread Bryan Mckinnish
Hi all.
I was looking over the maps that you can modify and have a question.
What's all those stars and pluses for at the beginning?
Are those required to build maps, or are they just there?
I can't wait to learn how to create single player maps .
Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] Jim's NFL Football.

2007-10-30 Thread Bryan Mckinnish
Hi Tom.
That would be cool. I think an example game would help me in this situation.
I usually get ideas of how things are played from them.
Thanks

 Hi Bryan,
Just like real football there is no one single strategy that will work
all the time. Part is experience, and part is just guess work.
For example, if the other team ttries to pass the ball allot you might
want to switch to or setup a passing defense based on the other teams
plays. A blitz also works wonders in Jim's NFL. I have sacked my share
of aponent quarterbacks using that defensive play.
However, if the other team is doing allot of running plays you will want
to use a strong defensive play like a goal line which forms your
defensive team in a long line which the enemy team must run through or
try and get around the left or right end. Which may force the other team
to switch tactics and go for a short, screen, or long pass.
I have just recorded week 4 of the Browns verses the Bengles, which as a
win for me, and I can upload it if you want to hear an example game
 being played.

 Hi Jim,

If you're planning on making another version of your NFL game, can you
make it so you can interrupt the voice when you hit the standings options?
Sometimes I want to hear the standings, but only for the division I'm in. It
keeps going until it's through the whole League.
 Thanks,
 Ryan

[Audyssey] my first board game idea

2007-10-26 Thread Bryan Mckinnish
Hi everyone.
I thought of a cool board game idea that I can make.
I thought of it being warps and traps or something. You would roll the dice and
drive along the board a number of spaces.
If you landed on certain spaces, you'd fall through a trap door and go back,
but other ones would take you forward a good number of them, sort of like
snakes and ladders.
Does anyone know where I can get some sounds for it? I have a dice sound, but I
need a trap door sound, and maybe a worp sound.
Thanks.

I have a question about sound rts.
Is it possible to put 1 computer player up against another?
Or can you get computer players to ally with you?
That would be cool.
Thanks

[Audyssey] sound rts

2007-10-10 Thread Bryan Mckinnish
Hi.
I like sound rts. It's a really cool game.
I can't wait until b9 comes out.
I like the custom maps feature that's going to come out. I can't wait to try
that out.
I also like the idea of computer players being able to be invited to games.
Keep up the good work on sound rts!
