Hi Munawar, I finally had a chance to sit down and try out 3D Velocity and I must confess I am impressed. The human voices, realistic sounds, and action for this game is going to make it one of the best games of 2008. I am interested to know who does the voices for the menus. Whoever she is she sounds extremely good. I'd definitely like to hear her used in more accessible games, because she has a top quality voice. I really enjoyed that touch to the game. Finally, the cut scenes are really cool. I really liked those as well. I felt like I was playing something like a mainstream commercial jet fighter game. Re: [Audyssey] quidditch game
What about a style similar to rts in which you go from player to player assigning different activities? - Original Message - From: Dark [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 5:27 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] quidditch game Hi Phil. I agree controlling 7 players and three balls would pretty much be a nightmare, but if you added a passing system similar to that in super football in addition to the flying, --- ie you press one of three numbers to pass the quaffle betwene your players and the keeper, and another of three (or four numbers), to try and intersept it. there's some evidence for this sort of swift interpassing as seen in the bulgaria V ireland match in goblet of fire, though of course it would only be an approximation. have the beaters work on auto, so that occasionally your players or the oposition lose the quaffle, and while perhaps not a tiotal quiddage game, it will at least come close. I thought the super football concept was a litle too easy myself, but i can see it being pretty hellish if you have to cope with 3D full audio flying as well. With 3 balls and 2 teams of 7 players there is too much going on to make game play easy or usable. In the Quidditch level of the Sarah game it is you against two bludgers trying to catch the golden snitch. I guess the full game would be possible if some day someone could put out an accessible multi-player game so you and 13 of your friends could play. But if that day comes, I would think Baseball or Football would be more popular. - Original Message - From: aiden gardiner [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 4:09 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] quidditch game Hi Phil, That game sounds great. It would be good if we could have it so that we could, for example, pick a team, and train them up or something by playing matches. That system reminds me of the old knockout kings boxing series for the Playstation. You could make characters and train them up after every match, an you'd get a stats report, such as speed, strength agility and stamina. in the quiditch game, you could have something like popularity, player speed and accuracy ETC. [Audyssey] bowling -- the real thing
So I went bowling with my cousin and girlfriend a couple days ago and loved it. Problem with that is that I made myself look like a complete fool much of the time because I couldn't find a good technique to gage where things were. I usually line up with the little ball dispensor thingy and head out about eight steps, then let 'er go. Anyone got any techniques they use to bowl in real life... that is, if anyone relaly does bowl in real life here. This list is pretty eclectic as far as age range and interests, so I figured Id give it a try. [Audyssey] New portable games break traditional molds
New portable games break traditional molds By Scott Hillis Fri Feb 29, 10:06 AM ET SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Bizarre little creatures that look like walking eyeballs and a puzzle-cracking professor may not seem to have much in common at first glance. ADVERTISEMENT Click Here! But they are the stars of two new vastly different hand-held video games that are winning praise for the ways they combine different genres to produce quirky new experiences. Patapon, out this week for Sony's PSP, is being hailed as one of the system's best games. It is perhaps best characterized as a rhythm-based, side-scrolling real-time strategy game. Confused? Here's how it works. You play the god-like leader of the Patapons, an oppressed race who just need a little rhythmic inspiration to help regain their former glory. You must build up a Patapon army, which you then command by tapping buttons in time with a beat, pulling off different combinations to advance, attack and defend. You'll collect resources like stone, iron and branches that can be used to create new soldiers or make your existing ones more powerful. Patapons and other characters appear as black silhouettes against the game's vividly colored backgrounds, like paper cutouts held up to a light. The music is a wild mix of percussion, hypnotic chanting and Celtic influences. Once you hear the chanting and the 'pata pata pata pon', it kind of gets in your head, said Christian Hinojosa-Miranda, a producer who worked on the U.S. version of the game. 'Patapon' really strikes to the heart of the PSP, which is simple, really addictive gameplay with awesome design, he added. But it is a fairly tough game that rewards patience and attention to detail. There are few instructions, and it's often only through trial-and-error that players will advance through the game. The game is very deep and sophisticated and if you let it sort of guide you, the experience is very rewarding, said Jennifer Tsao, group managing editor for the 1Up Network. BREAKING TRADITIONAL MOLDS Professor Layton and the Curious Village, for Nintendo's DS handheld, is as friendly and welcoming a game as can be imagined. But it, too, breaks traditional molds, melding a mystery story, point-and-click adventure, and brain teasers similar to those in Nintendo's hit Brain Age and Big Brain Academy franchises. As you explore a town and its strange residents, you'll come across more than 130 puzzles including optical illusions, spatial problems, and geometry questions. If you get stuck, you can buy hints with coins found hidden throughout the town. It's a game no one can feel bad about or condemn. It makes math fun, it makes word problems fun, it challenges you to think about problems in a new way. It's got a great story, lovely art, and nice voice acting, Tsao said. That earnestly friendly approach has helped Nintendo win new customers among people who would never otherwise glance at a video game. I'm not a core gamer myself but I'm rapidly becoming one with products like 'Professor Layton', Cammie Dunaway, the new executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo's U.S. operations who joined the company last November. I really think it has the potential to become a very, very nice franchise here in the U.S., with lots of appeal, Dunaway said in an interview. [Audyssey] playstation president steps down on cnet news
Hi, I just figured this was pertanent to the list Sony announced early Monday that Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios--and therefore the head of the PlayStation group--would be stepping down as of Feb. 29, 2008. No specific reason was given for Harrison's departure. Kazuo Hirai, president and group CEO of Sonly Computer Entertainment International, will assume Harrison's position. But, one can assume that Harrison may well be the latest head to roll in the wake of the poor performance of the PlayStation 3--the next-generation video game console that launched with gigantic expectations but has wallowed in third-place, trailing Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360. That's after Ken Kutaragi, the so-called father of the PlayStation, stepped down last April. That departure was widely assumed to be a result of the PS3's poor sales. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Educational games problem
Isn't it funny how we had so much fun with something as low tech as tapes, compared to today's standards anyway? Now they have what, a 6xl or something which of course uses some sort of tehnology, walks, moves around, pff will have to look around and find old 2xl's big brother. But yeah, those were the days! Someone could easily design an html version of him if they got permission from tigered if audio could be dubbed from tapes. - Original Message - From: Dark [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, February 11, 2008 4:55 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Educational games problem yes, 2Xl rocked! Re: [Audyssey] Thoughts about a tomb hunter game.
And then once you write all those you come out with say a trilogy or something where you have a main game screen which lets you chose from each game, kinda like jim's brain. *grins* - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2007 8:32 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Thoughts about a tomb hunter game. Hi Richard, Well, some of the Egyptian and gods and goddesses names are exactly the same in English as ancient Egyptian like Osiris and Isis for example. However, for the god Set hostorians don't all agree on the proper name for him. It really depends on who translated the name, and I guess there is some tricky reading of the heirogliphs for his name. Though, most historians refer to him commonly as Set. At this point I am just brain storming ideas for the Tomb Hunter game. I like Egyptian history as well as the next Historian, but that is but one possible game plot. I can easily see my new Tomb Hunter character exploring deep in some African or South American jungle, looking through some ancient mountains, searching a desert, etc... Bottom line, our history is filled with thousands of quests for some mystical and mythical item or place like Atlantice, the Spear of Destany, Arc of the Covenant, Excalibur, fountain of youth, just to name some of the more popular choices. I could write an entire series of games surrounding this game character if the games become that popular. If I run out of the usual suspects I can venture into more Sci-fi relms seaking some long lost alien artifact left hear by some alien race that visited our planet in ancient times. Basically, there is allot of options here. Richard Bennett wrote: Hey Tom, well I believe I prefer Apophis to Set. I also would rather have the Ancient Egyptian names instead of the English translations. I also like Ancient Egyptian myths, pyramids, and other things of the time; however, I doubt that I know a 1/4 of what you seem to know about them. Good luck, Bean ___ Gamers mailing list .. But I also know how much work goes into these games, and that we'll never get any truely awesome games going unless we can somehow manage to get a company going for us with a team of programmers and voice actors, which in turn isn't going to hapen unless we can get the mainstream market to see us all down here. Which likely isn't going to happen either, so this message becomes basically pointless. Oh well. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, August 06, 2007 7:18 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Quality games was rail racer Hi Che, Like you I was once sighted, and use to play everything that I could get my hands on. As a result I know what is possible with audio games, and when I first got in to audio games my first thought was these audio games are too simple, and is like going back to the Atari 2600 again. The only developer that seamed to be staying from the Space Invader and board game style of games was David Greenwood, and Shades of Doom was a huge hit with me. I felt like I could play something on the level I was use to. As far as racing games goes I have about 150 people on the pre-order list for USA Raceway and it has already outsold Rail Racer by 30 units. So I don't think it is racing in general that is Rail racer's problem. I think it honestly has to do with a couple of factors. Rail Racer isn't a triditional racing game with Nascar or Formula 1 which has it's own kind of following amung sports fans. One reason I am working on USA Raceway is I want a game similar to Nascar Thunder and Rail Racer isn't the same as racing games I like. Second, Rail Racer has a larger learning curve than most games. For example, using the mouse to lean your racer left and right takes a while to master, and it was something I didn't care to much for myself. Third, most blind computer users have some major aversion to the mouse. The minute you say this game has mouse control they hit the panic button and think they can't play the game because they think they can not use the mouse, or they don't know how to operate it. Yet, the mouse actually is a nice game controller in certain games. Che wrote: Hi Brian, you and I are on the same page. I was appalled at the lack of immerssive games when I first became blind, as I was an avid sighted gamer, playing just about every new title if it was of good quality. Unfortunately, it appears we are in the minority amongst blind gamers, either that, or I have vastly underestimated the amount of blind gamers that aren't into racing titles. At any rate, I appreciate the support, and you can count on Blind Adrenaline to produce high quality games in the future, but I will be including more basic games along with the more involved ones as well. It would be a play by mail game. Each player would design a fighting battle bot to play against an opponents battle bot. Each player would design the bot and then program the bot. The game would be based on a certain amount of money to buy the parts...defensive and offensive. when the bot was fully designed..and it would be designed for a specific play field. you would click on save and a text file would be generated that you can cut and paste into an email to your opponent. He would then load in his bot..and the text file you sent..and click begin match. a SAPI voice would then call off the battle to you. there would be appropiate sounds for the battle. you would not be able to change the bot during the match. you would be stricly an observer. If the programming is done right..both people should hear the same exact battle on their own computer. The outcome should be the same on each system. the text file would be encoded so no cheating would be permitted. No IP address would be needed...as the only internet you need is the EMail your opponent will send you. an editor would be provided to create the playfields. things like power up pads to recharge the bot, obstacles like walls to block shots, maybe some offensive and defensive weapons laying on the playfield to pickup? this is the basics I have hashed out so far.. any ideas on this from the gaming gallery? [Audyssey] first game
Hello all Does anyone remember one of my first questions on this list asking about a game where you go through walmart, terrorizing and vandalizing? Well I'm sort of writing a blueprint for what I'd like to do and how I'd like to do this wonderful thing using agm. I'm interested in Thomases opinion since he was one of the only ones who took me seriously, but Che or anyone else is welcome to send me feedback on or offlist. Here is what I'm thinking. I'm not wanting to sell anything or do anything monumental, but I do believe that destroying walmart by using hairjspray, toys, women's clothing, etc. could prove both exciting and challenging, teaching me a lot about agm and not being too hard to do, depending on what I wanted to do. But I'm wondering if there are any tips the devs onlist can give me? Do I need to write an outline, a txt document? Just wondering what a few steps I should start off with are? I've already recorded some walmart stuff in sterio and have pretty much all the sounds I need, and can create any ones I might need in the future... Just curious if anyone has any suggestions.. Overall I'm gonna go for sound quality, not a processor hog, but I want the game to sound like you're walking through walmart and doing different things there. *grins* Back to the agm manual and stuff! I hope you do decide to continue developement on more complex games, and I can promis you that I'll keep an eye out on your releases from now on...and I'll beat you on the Pupo Moondo charts one day! -Tj- Original Message - From: Che [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, August 05, 2007 7:38 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] rail racer Thanks for the kind words Everett, Just to make sure it is clear, Rail Racer itself isn't on hold, only future expansion and development of it, such as more online chat features and additional upgrades to the Racer. As far as the online track uploads and sharing, and the tournaments, they will go on. For me, the sales were dissapointing, I was hoping to move at least 200 units, but it turns out I overdeveloped the game and deep and complex isn't neccessarily what the blind gaming community wants unfortunately. I did everything I could to make Rail Racer the most replayable blind game available, including free online play, an extensive career mode, a track editor with an online track upload system, online posting of results, and the first web based tournament system for the blind. There simply is no accessible game out there with the amount of features Rail Racer offers for replayability. Despite all that, only around 120 copies of RR have been sold, and this is very unfortunate, as it doesn't encourage developers such as myself to put the kind of time and energy into a project that leads to immerssive and involving game play. At any rate, my plans for some more involved games, such as an Apache helicopter simulation have pretty much been canned, as it just isn't worth the large amount of time it would take, when I could do 4 simpler games in the same amount of time. Some of the problem with Rail Racer is due to the fact a lot of blind gamers just aren't into racing, and I have to wonder how this is going to affect the success of USA Raceway when it comes out. I think probably Raceway will be more well received, as it is easier to relate to todays Nascar racing than a futuristic environment such as Rail Racer is set in. Additionally, I think RR is probably a more challenging racer to get used to than Raceway will be, this is something I thought would be a selling point, but I am afraid the opposite has turned out to be the case. Blind gamers don't seem to want a game with a steep learning curve by and large, they just want to be able to start a game, jump right in and get cracking without having to practice and get used to the nuances of a high speed vehicle on complex tracks. Anyhow, I have learned an incredible amount by developing and releasing rail racer, and the things I have learned will help tremendously in my future titles, though I will probably not create something as feature rich as RR again, at least not in the near future. Finally, regarding Raceway, I hope no one takes what I have stated here as any kind of slam towards that title, I assure you I will be buying it myself at the first chance, and I would hope Thomas would include me on his beta team for the game, as i did with him for RR. I am confident Thomas will give us a great game we can all have a lot of fun playing, I think his work on Final Conflict and Monty shows that he is one of the top developers we have. And if you haven't given RR a fair chance, I urge you to give the demo another try. Ask anyone that has played in the Rail Racer tournament and they will happily tell you what a great time we have all had competing online with it, it has truly been a killer gaming experience. Later

Re: [Audyssey] Quality games was rail racer
But isn't that exactly what we used to have to do before audio games/ I never had manuals for vidio games and I've been total my whole life. It was touch and go, and I can't even say how much $$$ I wasted renting games through trial and error. I wrote the menues down on my old braille 'n speek, and those were some of the funnest days of my life memorizing and trudging through. Shrug if theres no challenge, theres no fun. Ask people like hm shadow dragon and brandon cole I think does too, mastering vidio games when they're not made for the eyeless is hard, crazy but the funnest thing you'll ever do... for the right person I suppose *grins* I don't do it anymore, and sometimes I think audio games spoil me. If you would've told me ten years ago how I'd be able to center an enemy in my speekers and press space and it would die, I probably would have maried you... - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, August 06, 2007 8:01 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Quality games was rail racer Hi Che, Yeah, I think you are correct in saying most blind audio gamers want easy games they can just run and play without having to learn a complex game like Rail Racer or even STFC for that matter. When I began STFC I wanted a good Star Trek game that was similar to Trek 2000, but had a much more advanced AI for enemy ships, more weapons, a cloaking device, and several other things Trek 2000 simply didn't have. However, during the initial public beta stage I got several responces on and off list that the game was too complicated, the game was to hard, it was boring etc. I soon discovered that other than the die-hard Trek fans and those in to challenging games most blind gamers didn't want a game they have to learn to play by trial and error. The key to winning or loosing STFC is strategy. Like in Chess or another strategy game you learn over time and practice which strategies will help you win, and which ones will cause you to lose. Sometimes you have to take calculated risks. Let one ship get blown up to make sure the other ship is able to get back to a starbase and live on to fight another battle and so on. However, since releasing Montezuma's Revenge beta 1 I have had much more posative responce. The game is far simpler than STFC only requiring a gamer to walk, run, climb, and jump through the levels. It has been easier to create, and I think it is do to the fact Montezuma's Revenge is allot easier to play in it's own way. When Troopenum 1.0 was released I heard Dan and Justin had lots of sales of that title and Troopenum II did almost as well. That game compared to Rail Racer and STFC is basically a simple space Invaders type game. Like you I am left to conclude while there are apparently many gamers asking for games like ToomRaider, Half Life, Mech Warrior, etc the numbers and reality shows the simple arcade games still are doing better financially in most cases. Though, STFC and Rail Racer are nitch markets anyway so it is completely possible it is those games don't have wide apeal do to the fact strategy and racing games are not as in demand as arcade and FPS games are. I know GMA did really well with Shades of Doom, but even with SOD now and then I see some grumbles the game is to hard etc. So what are we suppose to do as developers? Make simple games like Pacman, Space Invaders, are we suppose to push the audio games market into a wider world of more and more complex games? Do you actually play that game for pc still? - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, August 06, 2007 9:28 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Quality games was rail racer Hi, Yeah, I understand why you would ask for an easy to use user interface, but sometimes that isn't always possible if the game character needs to do allot of things. For example a 3D FPS game may require the player to jump in any direction, climb, walk, run , crouch, crawl, stand, etc.All in the same game to get around the 3D world. In Tomb Raider I find the keyboard commands a bit donting as you have a huge number of moves you can do with Lara Croft, and each one has it's own advantages in the game. For example, you may need to crouch and then crawl in a small passage to get into the next room. You have to jump up onto a ledge to get the rope which you have to climb to get to a door way high above you. You have to swim across an underground lake to find a special item on the other side. As a result you end up with tuns of keyboard commands, modifications of each other, but the game is incredibly fun, ritch, and nothing like we have in the audio game market. I suppose I could dumb it down that the same keys do the proper action if you encounter a specific item like lake, rope, etc, but that isn't quite the same. blind guy wrote: Hello Thomas. I think that easy games are very cool, by easy I mean not having 4 sets of 3000 keystrokes. alt and f tell you this. ctrl+t tells you that. f tells your the direction you're facing. Fun games, I'll admit, are usually hard, at least for me, and a game that's easy just has no replay value. For instance, LWork's judgment day has a very nice replay value because you earn stuff for doing certain things. And maybe you do it wrongly and have to do it again because you screwed something up? Well, frankly, that's what I call fun, I call fun stuff with replay value. I call fun challenging with a simple/medium user interface/keyboard controls. I've made great use of the archives a few times, and if that feature goes away then so do 50% o the mssages, simply due to the fact that people are gonna be mean and not put gamers in the to form... It seems like while programming something, you've got to put yourself in this sort of if, then, so mindset. Very daunting, but so simple. Wish I got it. [Audyssey] rail racer
Hello all, I think rail racer has been out for amonth now. Unfortunately due to a few circumstances and setbacks which are pretty much irrelivant, I stopped playing a week or so after I bought it and never really got to start again. However, incase you guys aren't aware, Che has decided he's going to put it on hold because of sales not really being high enough and the overall demand for it not beig what it should. For those who haven't at least given this game a try or have stopped trying it because of computer conflicts, download a demo and if you are having problems, contact che and see if he can get you going! He's very accomidating and usually responds within 12-24 hours or sooner! This game is so customizable it's crazy. You've actually got to adjust things for certain situations on tracks, you can creat different tracks, you've got joystick and mouse support and the sounds are crisp, clear and the game plays smooth. Car and racing games really never have been my thing until audio games came out, just never really liked them, but I'd say I've spent quite a bit on this one, not enough time because I've had to swich comps and haven't gotten time to load it on, but I do plan to. I think we spend so much time at times complaining about what we don't have and looking for new things that we don't realize what we already do have. I'm not trying to criticize or flame anyone for not buying the game, if something isn't for you then it's just not, but at least give the demo an honest half hour of real trying before you decide it's not for you. Unfortuantely, sound rts and agm have hit us at around the same time, so that's anotehr reason rr got pushed a bit to the side as well, but let's not forget about it! After this message Im definitely gonna load it up and see about putting in a few rounds so that I won't be calling the kettle back *grins* Take care you guys! Obviously the optimum way is to know the track and start decellerating before the Force fields come up, but sometimes, - particularly in some of the nastier class 4 tracks, I've just not found that to be possible. [Audyssey] graphic audio intigrated into games?
Hello all, In case you aren't aware, there is an extremely high quality company out there producing books in the sort of action adventure sfi genre at www.graphicaudio.net. I'm wondering how hard it would be to take there stuff and modify it into a sort of comic book or story book type of game. I for one would pay them for voicework if I were to put out an rpg, the y've got the advantages over most of us at home in that they have tons of multitalented voice actors to chose from, probably the use of protools and majorly awesome sounds. I'm not trying to stear this off topic to audio books, I just think GA would be majorly helpful to someone seeking almost moviesh game quality. Of course, *sigh* copyright and stuff is probably a major issue here. Definitely will talk to them about it though Any thoughts are good, just please keep it on topic! Re: [Audyssey] About SoundRTS
And we're pleased to play your game! - Original Message - From: SoundMUD [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, July 06, 2007 12:43 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] About SoundRTS Here are some more answers. 1. When you play a multi-player game, it says something about making your own games--how? It's probably a translation error. You can start a multiplayer game, that's all. Anyway I plan to add the possibility to make maps. 2. The computer AI in aggressive mode is too weak after the first attacks. I will improve the computer AI: he must know how to expand to a new base (the peasants are walking a lot when they exploit far gold mines or woods), and he must know how to build high level units and buildings. He already knows how to rebuild units, but he probably lacks resources and has problems with the population limit. 3. i CAN'T EVEN BEAT SINGLE PLAYER CHAPTER 2 The chapter 2 and 3 are very hard compared to chapter 1. And even the chapter 1 can be confusing. I wanted to build a very progressive in game tutorial with many chapters, but I had to postpone this feature to keep the release date I planned. 4. It would be nice if peasants and footmen could cross-grade at a barracks, and perhaps footmen could upgrade to archers as well. When it was possible, I tried to keep the game close from Warcraft or Starcraft. But there are lots of other great real time strategy games and it would be interesting to try other design choices. For example in Civilization 4 when your troops win a fight they are given experience points, and when the unit levels up you can choose an upgrade for it. 5. It would be nice to be able to set a flag to tell troops to capture installations, rather than simply destroying them. In Starcraft some very rare units are able to capture other units or buildings. In Warcraft when you destroy a building you get some resources. But why not? 6. farms ought to work like gold mines and woods do The farms in Age of empire worked this way. I don't know yet what I will do. I will try to extract the rules of the game from code to a separate text file, but I'm not sure if the result will be flexible enough. 7. What about a turn-based game like Civilization? Yes, it would be interesting. Even in SoundRTS it may be possible to pause the game and give orders while the game is paused, like in Baldur's Gate. Of course in RTS like Warcraft it's about choosing what to do when you haven't got enough time to check everything. There are really many possibilities. A detailed city building simulation game would be nice too. 8. If you'd like, I'll do a free voice over for the game--I could also make background music if you're interested. Thanks, it would be great! For the moment I don't know yet how much more time I will be able to put in SoundRTS, and I haven't decided yet if there will be a commercial version (the 1.0 will remain free anyway), so I hesitate to accept help. Anyway I will try to allow modifications of the game, selectable from the main menu. For the voices the problem is that I'm working on the game so the soundvoice list can evolve, and maybe some day it can be replaced by your favorite TTS. Background music and sound effects (units voices included) are much less problems. The sound effects can be left in CD quality so if one day I raise the sound rate the sounds will be automatically better. 9. What does it mean when it says a guest can create a game, and how is that done? In fact it just means that in a public server you can create a game even if you are not the owner of the server. Anyway I plan to add the possibility to make maps. 10. I don't understand how this game works. Am I stupid? Of course not! This game is complex to learn (I wish it will be simpler). Maybe an ingame tutorial would be good. For the moment, read and follow carefully the step-by-step tutorial provided in the manual. More answers in the next message. And thank you for your great reactions. I can't say how much I am pleased to read your messages. -- SoundMUD ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] audyssey sound rts
get your peasants exploiting wood and gold for you from the start, and whle they're doin that have your foot men and archers patrol te bridge at A1. They'll take out the small amounts of enemies that come from that side and keep the peasants alive. Start adding on, building buildings and reinforcing your footmen and archers. If you get attacked, dono't sit there in open mouthed shock like I do. If a footmen hits 1hp or close to it, have him return to base for a healing. Gradually you'll be able to fight your way into enemy territory. Make sure you have hmmm, at least a couple footmen and archers so you'll be able to take out whatever and then lead them to the enemy farms and stuff. They'll do the rest! Rock! For example, lets say you want to exploit wood. You define a rallypoint to a gold mine, (with the town hall, keep or castle), and when you recruit a new peasant, he'll go to that defined gold mine, and will start mining. It can be useful when a gold mine is far from your town hall, and you don't want to go to that coordinate. Also in battles, lets say a battle is going on f2, your baracks are on a1. The enemy's dragons are really outnumbering your footmen, so you need to recruit archers, plus you want to send them to the battlefield, so they can immediatelly defend. You define a rallypoint to f2, with your baracks, and then every recruited soldier (archers, footmen, etc) will go to f2. Hope this helps. Is there a way to save the game in SoundRTS? Someone asked this before but I can't remember what the response was, or even if there was a response... I think I'm starting to maybe like Sound RTS. I was never usually one for strategy games, because they are so non-linear, what I mean is, you can pretty much do whatever you want, obviously within the confines of the game, where as linear games you do things in order, or you do things to achieve a specific goal, etc, and in strategy games since they are so non-linear, I lose my sense of direction and perspective really quickly. But I think I'm gonna like SoundRTS. My question is, can I have say two peasants mining gold, two peasants gathering wood, and two peasants building a building, all at the same time? Or do you have to control one thing at a time? Also I haven't seen any enemies yet, is that because I haven't proceeded far enough in the game? So far I gathered wood, mined for gold, and built a barracks. The keys are a bit confusing I kind of wish that the devs would have made this menu-based with arrows and enter key and such. Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions

Man is the sound in this game not awesome? Everything is so clear and in it's place! When did you beat pro? !!! Everett - Original Message - From: Dark [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2007 8:33 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions Well. I've now played rale racer for a good few races, fed art my dust at Rale racer pro level, (the bonus track is one nasty piece of work), and so can probably give an honest opinion about the game. Firstly, I must admit racing games aren't my favourite genre, I've been interested in the developement of rale racer because it seemed to involve a lot of new things that hadn't been tried before in audio games, but I wasn't certain whether the game would appeal to me or not, but it certainly does! I love the way everything can be done intuatively just using the sfx without too much calculating numbers. a great job there, especially given the complexity of the game. One thing though, at the start of the game I did find that things took a bit of getting used to. The tutorials are extremely good, but obviously hereing someone else do something and doing it yourself are slightly different things. Also, I noticed that despite me getting used to the original demo track, the bonus track is stil fairly hard, - especially at first. therefore, i wondered if you'd considdered adding a practice option, where people could race the various tracks without interference from Art, neither winning nor losing money. This would let first time players get accustomed to things, and make sure that new tracks didn't always equal losses (it might also be good for trying out the mouse control). I also like the customization aspects, particularly as regards gear ratio changing, - usually as I understand in driving games the differences in top speed, acceleration and handling are controled by variation in car types, but having them set by the player adds a good deal of stratogy to the game. the nitros and gravity puller are also nice additions, - it was using a nitro that let me do for art at Pro level, with longer tracks, I'll also be interested to see how fuel management figures into the equation. Perhaps in a future version you might also considder adding atmospheric sounds for the various tracks to emphasise the theme and location, just to add a bit of realism and variety to the soundscape. You could for example have an alpine track with snow and wind sfx in the background, with the track containing many sharp curves and jumps, - a long desert themed track with some long streights, - or even some tracks from the Uk with appropriate sounds of driving rain (smile!). If this is something that would be a pest to program I appologise, it just struck me as something that might add to the feeling of the game. finally, i have a question. thus far I've been playing the game on keyboard (and fun it is). I did try the mouse but I found it rather difficult to keep up a constant accelleration, sinse when the mouse got to the back of my desk and I had to pick it up and move it I'd lose a lot of speed, -- any suggestions? all in all it's a great game, and I'll look forward to getting the full version. appologies for the long and rambling mail. I found a knew mud that I think people will like. The point of it is elegantly simple since its pure pk, but its the way in which you can go about it that's fun. Also, there isn't a lot of ASCII junk to throw off our screen readers either. Its wonderful. Don't let the lack of players discourage you. The occasional npc can make your life quite hard as a newbie. I found this thing at 2:00 in the morning yesterday when I couldn't sleep. Go figure. The information is below. This might cause your jfw to hang, if so read by hand. Sorry. This is not your typical Mud. Certainly not your typical DikuMUD. You see, GZ (as the natives call it) doesn't bother with all that hack-n-slash, roll or role playing, magic, skills, levels, and classes DD crap. Hell, there's not even the traditional concept of zones and areas. You see, we're pure, unadulterated, unapologetic PK. Now, I know what you're thinking: if there's no magic, no skills, no levels, no classes, no zones... What is there? Guns. And explosives. And tanks. And one helluva' adrenaline rush. We're not masking our violent tendencies and immature behavior behind Grokthar the Level 23 Barbarian. We're bringing it right to the forefront. We're rude, we're crude, and we'll definitely try to put a bullet in you. As you start out in the game, you're going to start noticing that things are drastically different from what you've come to expect from Muds. Some of the concepts are the same, some of the commands are familiar, some basic ideas remain; these similarities will only compound the differences into a potentially confusing and frustrating first play experience. There's a significant learning curve: the best way to get over it is by playing and not getting frustrated. Still, it'd help to have a more gentle introduction than what most of our players will want to give you... The connection information is planetmud.net Now I will tell you that at this time, I think vehicles is getting a rewrite so I don't yet know what else is being re done, but its still quite possible to have fun with out them. Make sure you read the help hints, help tips, help faq, and help tactic files. It makes life a bit easier. I hope to see you all around for some serious killing. I'm marhan in game. Keep a backup copy of your keys in case you experience PC problems that cause your key to get lost. If you don't, it's your responsibility, not the game developer's. If you buy a car, and lose the car key 6 months later, should the manufacturer furnish you with another one free of charge?, or should you have made another key beforehand, just in case? Recently on the audio games.net forums, a couple of members have been discussing cracks and such. However with this latest topic I think things are going slightly far. In light of the recent discussion about pyracy, I'm reporting it here, - because I'm not precisely sure whome to contact relating to shades of doom. Please see: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=12160#p12160 I'm sorry for having to go through these sorts of things, but given the talk about pyracy, I thought it was probably better than leaving the issue. No, you can't tell from which direction the blows are coming from, and I'm sure that my friends would be able to beat me with practice, but you can do amazingly well as a blind player, just like in real boxing, it is all in the timing. One hint for boxing: you throw punches at three different speeds basically, the harder the punch the more recovery time is required, so it is better at times to throw a few light jabs rather than go for the knockdown all at once. My ten year old nephew just throws punch after punch with no patience, so I just wait on him to wear down a bit then beat his brains out, it drives him nuts. The Fight Night franchise is coming to Wii later this year, and should really enhance the boxing experience I hope. I want to take the initiative to discuss certain words in the English language; their connotation to accessible gaming.I don't hope anyone minds. The word happen is very interesting. Let me tell you why the word happen is so interesting to me in accessible gaming. I was listening to thetrupenum review on main menu. When the guy was about to load the trupenum game he said: All right, lets press control+alt+t and see what happens. Its interesting that he use the word happens. The moment you press a hot key or you select a program to open, you can say once that program is starting up, its something that is happening. If I download a game and I'm trying out the demo and I have never ever listened to a review of this game and I start it up and I am amazed by the sound when it starts up, I say: wow, something interesting happened just now. I just like the word happen. When you forget the food on the stove, it happens that the food overcooks. When you have a bottle of ginger beer and you open it too quickly, it happens that the ginger beer overcooks. Just the same with accessible gaming, if you take a wrong action like opening the electric door in sod, if you deny to do something in a game like jumping too late over a barrol, something happens accordingly or if you do something good in a game like successfully killing a creature, something happens accordingly. I like the word happen. I don't know why. In games certain things happen if you do certain things. If you don't jump over a soer lid it happens that you fall down a soer. Developers writes if functions, in other words if the player does this, this wil happen. If I'm playing sod and I open a door and I'm hearing a syborg, its something happening. It happens that the syborg appeared in that room. So whether a game starts up when you press a hot key or open it via the programs menu, or anything in a game, its something happening. The use of the word happen can never be omited in any game. Can you think of any accessible game where the use of the word happen isn't necesary? But its most fascinating that you can say: something is happening now: if a game starts up. ___ Gamers mailing list .. I loved it that way because I was able to move faster, but the reason I love sryth is that I can enjoy the goblin's head rolling across the ground and striking a nearby tree instead of..;. you knock... massacre! massacre! the goblin's face explodes in a ... tells the group, 'your going too slow Heh, I like to hack and slash when I'm mad though so I suppose mudding is a double edged sword. - Original Message - From: Orin [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 1:58 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Little Savages Man, if you want a challenging plot, play Icesus mud--lots of quests there are really challenging if you know where to find them. I'm personally not a quester myself. What I'd like to have, is a combat system that doesn't have descriptions like: you scratch it for 1 damage! I mean, I'd like if possible bloody deadly descriptions especially death blows. But, I'm not into games especially online multiplayer ones, with endings. It should be persistent. I mean, I don't know I just don't like playing games over again, no matter how powerful I get. Now if each time I played it everything was random, including a random plot, now that'd be nice. Because you wouldn't be doing the same stuff over again. New challenges would be issued, etc. ___ Gamers mailing list ..
