 Hi Phil,
Personally, I think option 2, the Flagrate, spell, is a better all around
feature. First, it fits into the games story line better than a simple
marker. Second, it is cooler than the SOD markers.

 Phil Vlasak wrote:
 Hi Tom,
I did not use the marker feature in SOD too much so did not miss it in
 Sarah
but I can understand how it would make navigating a lot easier.
 I have two solutions,
1 I can add a marker feature to control r since it is sort of like the
remembral and this could be added in a patch.
 2. I am thinking of adding a new spell,
Flagrate, which Creates a burning, fiery line in the air
drawn with the wand into specific shapes.
Hermione used this spell to draw fiery X marks on the doors of the
 circular
hall in the Department of Mysteries.
Of course I would need Sarah to record the spell word Flagrate first
 before
 adding it.
I will have to ask David how to add additional encrypted sounds to a game
since I have not done this before.
In either case Sarah would say x 1 for the first mark and x 2 for the
 second.
I picked x since she already says that!

 Hi,
Personally I miss the room describer, but since he has trouble puttin
that feature I guess I can do without that one.
Though placing some kind of markers would be good. Perhaps a spell Sarah
leaves to remember if she was there before.

 Neo wrote:

 Hi Phil,
personally, I believe I would cope just with the ability to place
 markers.
Something like the SOD object locator (working at larger distances than
 just
5 feet and producing continuous signals once an item appears in range)
 would
also come in handy but I can do without it. The markers would however
 be
fine, as sometimes the remembral simply isn't just enough. The room
describer is not a feature I would really miss or need.
 Thanks,
 Lukas

 Hi folks,
I sent a similar message yesterday but I can't seem to have it delivered,
 so
hopefully this one will get through successfully...

I've been playing and messing around with the demo level of Sarah ever
 since
the game has been released, and even more intensely since Thursday when I
finally got my registration code, but I still don't get that darn last
magical object that prevents me from entering the first floor through the
 first floor door.
I doubt there is a location I haven't already visited, I doubt there is a
spell I haven't already tried in every single place. Still one magical
object is missing and I have no idea as to its whereabouts.
I really need any sort of spoiler, hint, clue, help, whatever to help me
find it, as I am truly stuck if I don't wanna use another way to progress
 farther in the game.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] star wars game

 Hi Josh,
I'm not Rob, but I'd like to take this opertunity to announce the status
of my own Star wars game. For the most part real serious development of
the game has been put on hold while I work on Monty and Raceway, but it
doesn't mean I have completely stopped working on it in short burst here
 and there.
I've done allot of reading of late to fill out an interesting story line
and I have finally settled on one, and the Jedi is one of the more less
known. Her life is really undocumented leaving allot of creative room to
fill in stories about her life, and what she may or may not have done.
At first I wanted to use a well known character, but after trying to do
that in the game I realised far too much is known about those
characters. I'd have to side step many pieces of documented history to
 squeeze the game in.
For example initially I was going to do a game on Mara Jade similar to
Jedi Knight II Mysteries of the Sith. Problem is according to the book
history Mara didn't really begin training until the Jedi Academy series,
and didn't join the Jedi order until after the Hand of Thrawn books just
prier to the start of the Vong war.
Other possible Jedi were eliminated from my game idea for similar
 inconsistancies in historical context.
It seamed to me that I should look at the clone wars or post clone war
for answers, and indeed I found one very open ended storyline.
Following Revenge of the Sith the book, Dark Lord the Rise of Darth
Vader, tells of several Jedi that escaped order 66 and were skattered
throughout the galaxy, and Darth Vader hunted them down and slew them
 one by one.
The ending battle has a sscene where Jedi Master Rone Shrine rescues his
Paduwan Learner, Olee Starstone, from Vader, and gets slain in the
process while she escapes with Chewy from Kashyyyk.
However, I intend to tell her tail following Shrine's death on Kashyyk
and the open ended story of what happened to Chewy's family which were
taken captive by the empire and inslaved. We don't know what Starstone
 did following that book.
Did she go in to hiding, did she try and attempt help Chewy rescue his
family from Vader, did she go out and search for Yoda which she now
knows is alive and did not die on Kashyyk, did she try and go after
Palpatine and defeat the Empire, what happened?
Well, I intend to work on a story about Olee Starstone's life following
the battle on Kashyyk. You will start off at Patuwan level and as you
play the game you will build skills and force powers. You will fight
Imperial Clone commanders, Clone troopers, probe droids, spy droids, and
eventually find Darth Vader, and try and destroy him. If you defeat
Vader you will go to Coriscant and attempt to bring Emperor Palpatine to
 justice.
Since we assume Olee no longer has a Jedi Master to guide her in her
education she could remain a loyal Jedi following the path of light and
justice or she let's her anger and sadness consume her. In other words
you can chuse to make her a hero or to fall in to the dark side and
 pickup dark side powers.

most of the doors to the upper floors are to the left of the broom

 when facing north.
You go up a short staircase heading south and the doors have snoring
 sounds.
When you get close enough, hitting x will give you the door

 Hay phil
I'm impressed with sarah. Well, it will take me some time to get used to
 the
corridors but at least sarah is much much more understandable than tecno
 shock.
Something weird is happening. I'm playing the demo. This happens on the
ground floor. It happened now thrice with me that filtch captures me.
 All
right I know if miss Norris is nearby she is warning filtch of my presence
then I need to watch out for filtch, but the last time he captured me the
only ghost sarah told me about with the d key is peeves.
I didn't detect the caretaker at all with the d key. How does it happen
that filtch captures me without miss norris nearby?
It certainly can't mean that my 20 minutes is up because the manual
 clearly
states that I will get an owler once my 20 minutes is up.
So how come it that filtch captures me without miss Norris being nearby?
 I
listened to your sneek preview, There was one stage in the game where
filtch was 80 feet ahead of you while you were recording the game. You
pressed d in the preview and sarah said: caretaker 80 feet.
So why am I not able to detect filtch? Is he just instantly capturing
 me
without me being able to detect him with the d key?
It also happened to me that I'm hearing the sound of loosing magical
 energy
but I didn't detect any ghost. Is the magical energy loosing sound suppose
to play each time sarah casts a spell?
i hope i expressed my question clear enough.

Who knows? Gues we're just meant to imagine that. It didn't say what they
used in the manual, although in the Harry Potter books it generally did
 say
what the object was. For instance, they once used an old boot to go to a
sporting event. I would imagine Sarah and her family used something along
 those lines.

A Portkey is an object which has been enchanted to transport anyone who
picks it up to a set destination at a set time. Any object can be made
 into
a Portkey, and they're usually things that nonmagical people like us
 would
overlook, so we didn't go picking them up and playing with them. A
 Portkey
could be something as simple as an old tin can, stuff we would just

nothing worked. I even tried using the patronus together with a headless

That kind of sounds bad if you think about it smile. Anyway, as most of
you by now may or may not know, I have a new job. I will be able to afford
to buy the Sarah game now. Of course, I don't know when I'll have time to
play the game much, so, it might take me a while to complete it. But, it
will be a nice thing to do during my off time if I have any.

As of this morning the 19th, I will begin working full time for GW Micro.
This is the company which offers Window-Eyes. I'll be one of the new
technical support employees. So, if you have any problems or questions
 about
Window-Eyes and you call GW Micro, you might just get me smile.

I plan on posting about this new job and the relocation to Indiana on the
 GW
Micro blog later today. The blog is located at http://www.gwmicro.com/blog

 Many thanks.

 Hi Jamie,
You should try the control m map to find the approximate location.
As in the HP books it is disguised as a solid wall.
If you go along and use the x key every few feet it should show up.
Then you need to figure out which password to use.

 Hi Shaun,
I took the dungeon out of the demo because I wanted to add more rooms
 and
having all three levels was making the demo level slow down.
In the ground floor and basement levels, I was able to add a few
 classrooms,
the staff room and a larger great hall compared with the earlier
 December
 2005 public beta.
In the Dungeon level I was able to add the Slytherin common room, the
 staff
toilet and the Potions Professor's private store of potions.
Maybe I should have made the dungeon door more difficult to open.
Or put an item limit feature as I do on the secret passage to the first
 floor.
 smiles,

Thanks for explaining the spells. But how do I get the map?
 Assuming
it's in Filch's office, he keeps catching me if I take a step inside,

isn't surprising. I can open the door, but am not sure what to do to

Nope, I'm not reporting a bug. Actually I could use some hints. In my
traels throughout the castle I've managed to discover a few more of the
items needed to complete the first chapter, but nowhere, and I mean
nowhere, have I managed to discover the all-important Time Turner. There's
nothing more frustrating than finding all those items and then, for
whatever reason, having to quit without being able to save. So if anyone's
found the TIme Turner and is willing to offer a hint or two as to its
whereabouts, I'd appreciate it. I also wouldn't say no to a pointer on how
to distract Filch so I can get the Marauders' Map without seeing the Game
Over screen first. Hmmm, could that be a bug? Even after the game ends and
you select to play the game and the difficulty level you were playing on,
you still retain whatever items you found in the last game. Was that
intended or is that a bug? Anyway, as for Filch I've tried using the
Invisibility CLoak, but I suppose it doesn't stop you being solid. Hmmm,
maybe I should try firing off a stunner right after opening the door? But
anyway, thaks in advance for any help. I'll say this much, the game's been
 great so far.

 Hi folks,

tucked away in the Sarah manual, there is a very brief mention about
how to create a tactual representation of mazes using pushpins and
cardboard. I am attempting to do this for the beginning of sarah. It
would be nice if these sort of things were available for purchase, but
would probably be very time consuming to make, and expensive to buy.

Anyway, has anyone else ever tried this method to help them navigate
mazes before? I could probably use some advice on creating such a
tactual grid for sArah. Im one of those folk who tend to get a bit lost
 in these audio environments.

Also, when is a reasonable time to expect to receive a registration key
for Sarah? I payed for mine yesterday, but so far, have heard nothing
yet. I'm not too worried yet, though. I bet there are a lot of orders to
 process.

 Hi Jamie,
All the broom cupboards are on the south edge of the castle with the door
north, so if you are inside go north then go to the center of the door and
 hit enter.
I think the room is 8 steps so take 4 east or west.

 Hi Jamie,
You need to find the time turner necklace, pick it up check your inventory
 and hit enter on it.
Then the f3 key saves your game.
You have 14 save slots to choose from but I suggest writing down a note to
yourself on what floor you are on because the chapter numbers are not
 always
obvious since the dungeon is chapter 11 but it is below chapter 1.
I had to do this because the game engine does not allow negative numbers.
Well, I guess I could have started you out in the chamber of secrets as
 the
 demo level!
I never thought of that one!
 thanks,
 Phil

 Hi Shaun,
I stick a dx8vb.dll file in the game to make it Vista compatible and now
 this bug shows up!
It was not there earlier this week.
Maybe it's the Ides of March bug!
Now my computer is doing the same thing, locking up when it hits the
 high
 score function..
I will ask David about it.
Meantime, if you want to end the game hit q.

Hi shaun
This did not occur during any of the beta testing and it does not on my

At the point you hit the third initial the game reloads the level which
may

I used to have the high score list pop up but people did not want this

it seems that taking it out may have caused an extra long pause.
I will see what I can do.

 Hi phil.
When I try to quit I get to the score enter name thing, I enter my
 name,
 and then I hit enter.
At which point the game locks and I have to end the task.
Is this a bug or something?

 Hi Kelly,
You need to get within 5 feet of a door to use the password.
The best way is to use the shift d key and arrow to the object you want to
open to find out how far it is.
I put the anti chamber door there to be nasty, there is no way to open it.
The staff room needs more than a spell or password to open it.

 Passwords spoiler
You only have one at the beginning of the game.
When you pick up the map, hit enter to get the ones for the demo.
Once you get to the other floors you will automatically get the full list.
Some knowledge of the Harry Potter books will make picking out which
password is for which room easier.
Also using the map with control m helps too.

As for the staff room, try the kitchen.Phil

 Hi,
Does anyone know how to get into the staff room and the antechamber on
the ground floor? I assume you need a password, but the ones I somehow
 got
don't seem to work. Speaking of passwords, how do you know when you get
 one
without having to press the P key every time to check?

 Hi Phil.

I am very sorry to cryticise the game. As I said, I'm truly well impressed
with the hole thing and can't wait to explore the rest of the castle and
solve the various puzles, and my thoughts on Bins are of course my
opinion. to explain slightly, the intonation of the voice being both
monotonus and synth derived, game me the impression of a more robot like
effect which was only enhanced by the rather rusty tone. Of course, this
 is
my impression, and may not be other people's.

several of my lecturers would actually fit the Bins role extremely well,
 we
even have a professor who's knickname in the university is Morphene
 cooper,
very much for the same reason as Prof Bins.

Unfortunately, the older and more binslike the professor, the less likely
 it
is that I could actually convince them to reccord some lines.

If you like however, if you send me the lines for Bins I could have a bash
at recording them myself, or getting one of my acting oriented friends to
 do
 so.

In the production I took part in two weeks ago I played an eldily vicar,
 and
thus had to age up my voice fairly significantly. Sinse I've been taught
 by
a variety of similar professors all the way through my degree and Ma I can
hopefully make a realistic intonation and add the appropriate amount of
 droning and wheesing.

Also, There shouldn't be any accent problems sinse I'm english myself.

Of course, I certainly don't think the Bins voice is a major problem in
 the
game at all, I was merely trying to accurately explain all my impressions
 of
the game, the many positive ones, as well as the one or two negatives, and
 I
certainly think the game is Fantastic as it is, you've obviously put a lot
of hard work into creating the game, and it's well and truly paid off.

 Sorry again for the complaint.

 all the best,

 dark.

 Hmmm
Well, when I was huge into mudding on AA I really wasn't able to enjoy
 the
brutal descriptions because I wanted to be good, and being good meant
 moving
quick and thinking quicker. I made all sorts of modifications to my
dictionary manager and set up sound triggers so the game could be played
faster, and in the end the game was in a language only I could
 understand.
 I
loved it that way because I was able to move faster, but the reason I
 love
sryth is that I can enjoy the goblin's head rolling across the ground

Heh, I like to hack and slash when I'm mad though so I suppose mudding

Man, if you want a challenging plot, play Icesus mud--lots of quests
 there
are really challenging if you know where to find them.

I'm personally not a quester myself. What I'd like to have, is a combat
system that doesn't have descriptions like:
you scratch it for 1 damage!

I mean, I'd like if possible bloody deadly descriptions especially
 death
blows. But, I'm not into games especially online multiplayer ones, with
endings. It should be persistent. I mean, I don't know I just don't
 like
playing games over again, no matter how powerful I get. Now if each
 time
 I
played it everything was random, including a random plot, now that'd be
nice. Because you wouldn't be doing the same stuff over again. New
 challenges would be issued, etc.

 Hiya,
A good mud for bloody descriptions would be God Wars II. It's
real...Different, to be honest, from most any other game. They specialize
in unique systems, which I really enjoy, myself.
The website is, appropriately enough, godwars2.com, the mud being at
 godwars2.com:3000.
 Enjoy,

I for one don't think we have any business trying to force companies to
 make their games accessible.
First of all, for the vast majority of games, it simply cannot be done,
 it
would be like trying to force the car manufacturers to make their
 automobiles accessible.
Secondly, it places a black mark on the perception of blind folks in
general, as people will roll their eyes and say Well here go the blind
again, asking the many to sacrifice for the few for no good reason.
If I thought even a small percentage of mainstream games could be made
accessible, I would feel differently, but I'm afraid you are spitting in
 the
 wind on this one.
We're just going to have to accept the fact we're dependant on a handful
of developers to make games for us due to our small market, and help them
out as much as we can by buying their games. Or, like me, you can learn
 how
to program games yourself and create quality games for the blind.
  Out.

Hi. I'm damien sadler, and have started up a new company as some may or
 may
 not know.

It is called x-sight interactive, and we have already made a few games.
One of which is acefire which you can download at:
 http://x-sightinteractive.bpcprograms.com.
Another, the most recent, is the bop it extreme game.
It was jim kitchen who gave me the idea by producing the original bop it
game as software; so the bop it extreme needs some beta testers.

If anybody's interested, let me know.
I also need help finding somewhere better than what we have at the moment
 to
host our games, since the site isn't even mine.

 Regards,

 Damien

 USA Games News

 5/19/2006

 Introduction

 Hello, gamers.
Some of you have emailed our sales department with questions about Monty
and some questions about the expected STFC patch. We will attempt to
answer these questions here in this news letter.

 Final Conflict

I know that previously I had mentioned that the patch would be ready at
the beginning of May. Well, life got in the way of the plans, and it has
taken until now to get the patch stable enough for release. There are a
couple of miner changes and updates I want to get in to the patch, and I
am hoping to have a release ready by Saturday afternoon.
This patch will correct some critical errors in STFC 1.0 beta, and
should get everyone up to date with the changes fairly quickly. I'm
debating on weather or not to do a full upgrade or a patch, but it might
be better to do a full install as some of you had problems getting it
installed with .net framework 2.0 which I should be upgrading to in the
 coming months before release.

 Montezuma's Revenge

Some of you have been asking when Montezuma's Revenge will be rleased.
Honestly, I can't say. I've been working on three separate projects not
giving any one of them all my divotion at any single time. However,
just know the new Monty engine is doing well. There are a few things I
want to fix, but once I do that I am going to begin coding temple 2 and
the bonus temple. After that we can see about getting an Alpha out to
 play with.

 Jedi Strike

Even with all the other projects I am working on I have began over
halling the SWJS engine. There is allot of features I am going to work
on with this game when I get the time, and as per request ages ago I am
adding a wide range of force powers you can choose from such as push,
pull, heal, jump, and force sspeed, and saber throw. Dark siders have
force blinding and lightning to add to the force abilities. I have
decided to loosely but not quite base this game on Mysteries of the
 Sith. Why?
Well, some of the Lucas Arts titles were really good to play. I have a
memory of the layouts of some of the levels, and that will allow me to
code the levels allot quicker. Although, since the levels are three
dementional there is allot more to designing the levels than with
Monty. You have rooms above you, below you, and hall ways, leading off
to the rooms on the same level. It makes the levels lot more difficult
to travel than sod which is all on one level.
Other things to consider is you might walk in to a hall and there can be
storm troopers up on a balcony above you firing down at you. You will
have to force jump up there, or try and shoot them from your position
with a captured blaster. In tother words enemies can be above or below
you as well as left, right, ahead, and behind you.
So that is where we are with that title. I'm going to cut this short so
I can get some sleep, but when I get up I plan to work on the STFC patch.

 might
get the game you need. What features are you looking for in a chess
program? Do you want to use one that is JAWS friendly?, or do you use
another screen reader?, or do you want one that is self voicing for the
 most
part. For starters, you can check out a free program that is JAWS

 from

or a demo of a program that you have to buy that is very flexible and

 or

I don't recall which. They have several programs to choose from. HTH

Hello,
I've signed up for a freekick account. I know this game is played by a few
other blind people. Problem is, I'm finding it a bit daunting and tricky,
also, since I've never played football (although I watch it very keenly),
I'm not really sure about tactics and such. What I want to know is, would
blind freekick players like me to create an emailing list, where we can
discuss this highly specialised game from a blindness perspective, example
game navigations, asking questions about helping to change tactics, a
discussion point for new and other blind managers, and if other visually
impaired people see such a list, offering such support and proving the

well, I am taking a game programming class that is geared toward the
 sighted
community. It is being taught in C++, and what I hear that is pretty much
the game programming standard, but I don't know if it is or not. The tools
that I use work great with JAWS this IDE will compile both C and C++. It
 is
the DevCpp IDE and is a great price too, it is free from:
www.bloodshed.com and works absolutely great. Also with this IDE they have
 a
great game library called allegro. I don't know if it will work with other
languages or not, but the allegro game library will allow you to write
 both
linux and windows games with no diffuculty. How I know this is because I
 am
the only Windows user in the class and the other students are on Linux and
the C and C++ language will swap over between Windows and Linux. I hope
 this
helped and if you want any other information, let me know.
