Re: [Audyssey] Very frustrated, please help!
Hi Ryan, Sigh..It is not a matter of anyone unwilling to help you. It is just that none of us know how to help you. I happen to have all the VB 6 components installed on a Windows 7 Pro machine, and guess what? I downloaded and installed a couple of Robert's games and they gave me the exact same problem. So how can I help you when I don't even know what the problem is exactly myself? I happen to know Visual Basic 6 software is extremely old, and there are a lot of apps like this with no backwards legacy support in Windows 7. Bottom line, the games are too old, and I don't really have a desire to bust my brains out trying to get it working. Perhaps you should e-mail Robert and tell him to get with this century, upgrade to VB .NET 2008 or something like that, and stop developing using Windows 98 era software and programming languages. Hi, Go to Microsoft.com/downloads and enter Visual Basic 6 or something like that in the bing search box. I don't know if they are still available for download or not, since Visual Basic 6 is no longer officially supported, but it is worth a try. If they don't have it try google.com. I'm somebody somewhere still has what you need posted. On 1/2/11, Ryan Conroy staindadd...@juno.com wrote: Hi Tom, I have the kitchensinc folder installed, and still nothing. Re: [Audyssey] Very frustrated, please help!
Hi Tom, The thing that is really bothering me is that I got them working before. It was only for like a minute, but they were working. I had to be dumb and go move a file, and then they stopped working again. Contacting Robert is a great idea, but as I've said before, there's no contact information on his page, or in the order form. I bought two of these games for like 25 bucks. I'm not happy; I was, but now that they don't work again... Re: [Audyssey] Very frustrated, please help!
Hi Tom, I have the kitchensinc folder installed, and still nothing. Can you direct me to a place where I can get these files? I'm sure you know more about this then I do. lol -- Original Message -- From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Very frustrated, please help! Date: Sun, 2 Jan 2011 18:16:17 -0500 Hi Ryan, First, I don't know if you are aware of this but Microsoft completely dropped support for Visual Basic 6 and earlier in Windows 7. As a result if you want to play the games like Robert's games, which were written in Visual Basic 6, you have to install the full Visual Basic 6 runtime. You also need the Visual Basic 6 components for DirectX 8 which also do not ship with DirectX 9 and do not ship with the Visual Basic runtime. The easiest way to get these components installed is to install Jim Kitchen's Winkit setup program that givews you most of the Windows 9x and XP backward compatibility libraries for Visual Basic. With that said, I figured I'd try one more time. I just downloaded all of the accessible games from Robert Betz, and I actually bought two of them. I can not get them to run no matter what I do. When I click on the icon in my start menu/desktop, nothing happens. Nothing at all. No errors, nothing on the screen, and it just won't start. I've been at the computer for two days trying to figure out why these won't start, and I'm getting really annoyed. I'm running Windows 7 32 bit. Another thing that is very frustrating is that I actually got them working for a second. If I had just left things alone, they'd probably still be working, but I had to go and mess with things. I learned my lesson. lol I think I downloaded a runtime library that I needed for the games to work, but then they stopped working. Does anyone have any idea on what I can do? I really want to play these games, and while I know there are other versions of Battleship for example, I really would like the ones from Robert Betz. Lastly, he has a new website.
