[Audyssey] Organizing teh Audyssey Database
Hello all, Today or tomorrow I want to begin working on the Audyssey games database, and I was wondering how you all think I should organize and arrange the games and developers. There are many ways to do this so I thought I would throw a few suggestions out here and gather your input. The first way I could organize the database is by developer. I could have a list of developers such as BSC Software, GMA Games, PCs Games, Blind Adrenaline, etc and below that heading all the games they have produced. Of course, the problem with that method is if you are looking for a certain type of game it is difficult to find or locate without going through and each and every game on the site. The second method is to organize games by type or genre. I could have various categories such as action, strategy, card games, puzzle games, etc. I think this would be a more acceptable method for organizing the games on the site as you could go directly to the section that was of interest and skip those sections that weren't of any interest. The third option is similar to the second accept instead of just being divided by genre they could also be divided up by platform such as Mac OS, Windows, Linux, and iOS. Under those headings would be subheadings such as action, strategy, card, puzzle, whatever. Any thoughts here? Re: [Audyssey] Organizing teh Audyssey Database
Are you planning to store the data/content in actual database, or just lay it out on pages in a structured arrangement? Asking since, if in database, you could then let guys search, or request different sort orders, categorisations, etc. etc. using data queries generated by page controls, etc., easily enough? As in wouldn't think it was necessarily necessary to sort of hard-code layout options/arrangement/ordering/categorisation as such - if that makes sense? Re: [Audyssey] Organizing teh Audyssey Database
Hi I think the 3rd would b the best out of the 3. Like u said the 1st u would have 2 go through all the games that u wouldn't care 4 just 2 find the ones u would play. The 2nd is not a bad idear, but the 3rd 1 will make it easyer 4 people 2 find what they wont. 4 exsampal I don't have a iphone so if I'm looking 4 a game and I can go by platform and then tipe that would take a lot of the guess work out of it 4 me. That is just my thoughts on that idear. Hi Thomas, I personally would go for the third approach, as if you really want to know what a specific developer has made you can probably just go to their website :P and at the same time many people won't care about windows or mac or iOS etc games so could just skip that heading. Re: [Audyssey] Organizing teh Audyssey Database
Hello, I like either options 2 or 3. Option 2 would be good for what I think of as a general search like if I wanted to find all games in a particular genre that would work. Option 3 I kind of think of it as being more specific, like if I'm looking for specifically windows games, or Linux games, or Android games, and then can take it by game type. I'm also in favor of a database-driven query approach, takes out the hard coding and lets the end user search per their own preference. Hth Dave. Re: [Audyssey] Organizing teh Audyssey Database
hmmm third sounds good. however I wander if all you need to do is have a database of all the devs all the games all gonres platforms, etc with some sort of search filter. every dev game type, platform etc should have its own page so the thing is dynamically searchable. ofcause thats quite complex and its just a thought. you could just list them on the page but hmmm. audiogames.net has a massive database but I have never searched it.
